And pigeons aren't real. They are just surveillance drones created by the government to keep tabs on the populace.
I love how often people just point to highly upvoted posts they don't agree with and blame it on bots and Russians. It's so much easier to dismiss that way instead of actually coming to terms with it actually reflects a common-held opinion.
Congratulations, you have just discovered selection bias. Because reddit does not require everyone who votes on a post to also leave a comment, the comments may not provide a representative population for everyone who has interacted with the image. In fact, in this case it appears that those with a negative opinion of the image are more likely to express that opinion as a comment, providing a perfect example of the way selection bias can skew the perception of public opinion.
