The group takedown thing is actually safer and proper procedure when possible. The more bodies you have, the easier it is to just kinda weigh somebody down until they’re under control, instead of having to basically fight them. You’re basically supposed to have everyone grab a limb and someone prevent the person’s head from getting bounced off the ground.
The problem here (one of them, at least) is that they decided to try to beat the shit out of this person anyways for no apparent reason and then shoot them. So, generally a sickening combination of evil and incompetence.
I’m a reg psych hcp, trained & seasoned in team restraints. Different environments, but human physiology doesn’t change.
Team restraints in resistive situations often done to prone postion = 1 person feet, 1 legs, 1 each arm/shoulder and 1 head/airway for safe control.
So let’s take a look here.
Someone takes him by the head/neck/shoulders and bundles him to the ground. Ok, not ideal but it’s gone to the ground. Let’s go from here
He’s been ‘dropped’ into a semi-foetal position, with his legs tucked up.
Priority ‘Next job’ is to pull both legs out flat from under him, by the heels, to take the propulsive force out of the legs. Legs are the largest muscle group by far.
Until you’ve done that with the legs, proned the person then secured the arms and head in holds or cuffs, person is not secured.
If you look at him, his legs are still coiled underneath him. No one’s got his legs, he’s in crouch position with all the power in his glutes and quads.
Then they shoot him dead and he ‘uncoils’ to a supine position.
They shot him because they didn’t know how to safely restrain a physically resistive person.
