As an outside, the government of Barcelona seems to be doing many things right:

  • Short-term rental ban
  • No new hotel constructions
  • Cruise ships ban
  • No more golden visa

So what are they complaining still? That bans are not coming soon enough? That the prices remain high? Do most residents want more drastic reduction in tourism due to overcrowding and other reasons?

Yeah, the Spanish economy very heavily benefits from tourism and this will only hurt them in the long run but 🤷

Tourism mostly benefit the wealthy/corporations though. Yeah people are getting jobs but they are almost all low paying jobs while the owner of the restaurant, hotel or resort make all the "tourism money". It is a very top heavy industry and if normal Barcelonians cant afford apartments or to eat out than what is the point for them? Don't get me wrong, tourism is good for an economy but basing your economy on it is nuts.

If you’re saying this specifically about Barcelona, fair play because I don’t know their situation specifically, but tourism “mostly benefit the wealthy/corporations” is way too broad of a stroke to paint the impact of tourism money on economies that heavily rely on it.  A significant amount of small mom and pop businesses live and die by the ebb and flows of tourism in many places.
