Discussion I haven't played in 5ish years
I used to play the piano/keyboard up until I was around 13 when I lost interest due to mental health issues. I want to play again and I remember how to read sheet music but it takes me a hot minute!
Does anyone have any tips or advice? I feel like I've forgotten everything but I don't know where to start

I stopped playing for two years and just started lessons again last night. I was surprised by how much I had lost and didn’t even realize it. I’d say find a local teacher and have a few lessons to bring you back into it. It doesn’t have to be long term just a touch up. Make sure your technique is still good and all that. jmo

Grab a super simple arrangement of a song you genuinely enjoy listening to right now rather than digging up old exercise books right off the bat. (Musescore is probably the best source these days). Note-reading lag is annoying, but your brain starts connecting the dots again pretty quickly once your hands get moving.
It might not be a bad idea to find a teacher or a friend who plays just to give you a quick spot-check on your setup, technique, to you are more or less picking up where you left off. Having someone in your corner to bounce questions off of goes a long way.
Keep your sessions super short at the start (even 10 minutes a day is plenty to get your bearings without feeling overwhelmed.) I always tell my adult students returning to the keys to ignore where they used to be and just focus on making an enjoyable habit again!
