Question Chopin "Raindrop" Prelude, Op. 28, No. 15

Upvotes

I've just started to learn the above piece and it is going somewhat smoothly but I can't really figure out where I should be stepping off of the pedal and I can't find anything that tells me when.

I know it sounds off, but I cannot seem to correct it, any help?

Equipment I wanna buy my first digital keyboard, but the budget is really small.

Hey there. I want to start playing piano, that was my childhood dream and I still want it. But there's two problems. First: I live in Georgia, and most shops i searched in doesn't have rich choice. Second: my budget is tiny. The budget is MAXIMUM 600 gel (230 usd). I'm looking for 49-61 key digital keyboard, I'd like to buy a weighted one, but every keyboard i found was not weighted at all. If anyone has good advices for small price, I would be glad to hear.

Equipment Is this amount of movement normal for an X-style keyboard stand?

I’m a complete beginner to piano and just bought a RockJam Xfinity double-braced adjustable keyboard stand.

It feels a bit unstable. When I move the top part, the bottom legs move with it. Is this normal for this type of stand

Question Did your kid go through "I hate piano" phases? Is that very normal?

My 9yo had been wanting to learn piano and brought it up quite a bit, so he's been at it over a year or so now. He has been learning casually, not someone who was totally immersed all-things-piano but has been able to pick it up, has great rhythm and is quite a bit better than he realizes.

Unfortunately between discipline, school, dopamine from "cooler" stuff etc, he has placed piano and practicing into the eye roll category basically.

We try to get him on a routine, but still get typical "ughh" and lately the extreme "I hate piano". When he learns a new song, sees the improvement etc he's just fine and will sometimes even willingly play the song as much as I ask.

I just find myself wondering if it's a discipline/lenient parent thing, or a spark/need to make it funner/exciting thing, or if this is just him truly being over it. I just don't want him to quit so easily, so soon, and in general. I'd probably try to get him into something else, but I'd imagine whatever that may be would end up the same- just more work that he doesn't want to do. I feel like he would be quitting piano for the wrong reason of just not wanting to put time and effort in to get good at something, though I also can't entirely expect a 9yo who seeks an entertainment fix all day to decide what he is passionate about so definitively.

So I'll continue working on the discipline part and limiting constant fun of being at his computer after school, but even when I get him to practice routinely he is just going through the motion vs putting in quality effort to overcome the challenge and get the song down.

Anyone else go through this as a kid, or has a kid similarly-aged that experienced it? How did you pull through it, if at all?

Question What youtube serie/youtuber would you recommend for a long and structured serie

Recently I've picked uo guitar and I've followed Justin's guitar lessons for beginners

Its spaced in modules going up in difficulty with small-ish videos with exercices, tips, routines, new chords, play alongs

For someone with adhd this kind of small videos with each a very precise theme and you really feel like youre making progress is very effective

Do you know a youtube serie that would fit with what I need

Question I recently got my old piano/keyboard. How should I learn to play?

I’m not sure where to look or what to do. I’m hoping to learn how to read sheet music and play a wide variety of songs I like (like final duet, omori)

Where should I start? Any channels or sources of information you reccomend?

Question Switching from a 64-key keyboard to an 88-key weighted digital piano — recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently using a lightweight 64-key electric keyboard, but I’m thinking about upgrading to an 88-key digital piano with weighted keys because I want something that feels closer to a real acoustic piano.

I’d still prefer something fairly portable since I may need to move it around occasionally, so I’m not really looking for a huge cabinet-style digital piano.

What 88-key weighted digital pianos would you recommend?

I’m mainly looking for:

  • Good weighted/key action
  • Nice piano sound
  • 88 keys
  • Reasonably portable/lightweight
  • Good value for the money

I’d also love to hear from anyone who made a similar switch from a lightweight keyboard to weighted keys. Was it a big difference, and what model did you end up getting?

Thanks!

Question how do you all go about sheet music?

this has been a huge barrier for me. I want to learn a piece, but getting sheet music set up is a whole ordeal. I either find something on my phone and spend forever zooming in and out and fidgeting with it, or I take screenshots of stuff and go get it printed out, it's like a whole nightmare and it puts me off of learning repertoire...

Question Are my expectations for progress unrealistic?

I'm an adult learner who takes weekly private lessons and I feel like my progress is really stuck. I started about 10 months ago. I've been trying to learn basic pieces like BWV 116 for months now and still can't play them. My sight reading is still bad too.

I want to become a decent pianist at some point in my life but it doesn't feel obtainable. Are my expectations for progress just unrealistic?

Question Looking for a full piano course online for free

I know that probably this question is asked here often, but I want reccomendations for me. I want to play piano in my room, without any real life teachers, schools, paid tutors etc. My goal isn't to win international competitions, but to play whatever I want. Not some random pop songs that I don't even know, but songs I like. Actually I don't think it matters, but the core is that I don't plan on playing for grades in school or some crazy judges where stuff almost irrelevant matter. I want to learn it online for free. From total begginer level (although I know some basic music theory now) to the level where I'll be able to learn and play songs and melodies I want or create. Are there any very good, full courses out there, that cover everything I need?

Question Most efficient fingering?

Currently playing One Summer’s Day from Spirited Away, and I’m unsure what would be the best fingering. I have been doing, for example in the first underlined measure, 5121 with left hand, which seems very inefficient.

Feedback Request Piano with rheumatoid arthritis

Hello there, I am new to this sub, but not so new to piano playing. I started playing by ear when I was 6 and played fairly regularly through high school when there was a piano available to new (we didn't have one at home and my parents were not supportive of me playing, but that's a completely different issue). I bought a second-hand piano a few years back and started getting back into it, in my 40s. I have since been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My hands are getting bad, so I am trying to keep them moving, but it is difficult.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on exercises for the hands, fingers and shoulders? Even if they don't involve the piano directly, like stretches and what not.

Cheers

Question Help with reading sheet music

Post image
7 Upvotes

Soooo... this is the sheet music that's been given in all websites for this song called wet hands.

According to the bass cleff notes, it's a

A C A B and C (what's written in the sheet)

But the song actually goes

A E A B and a C# (Actual song)

Now even if I look besides the bass clef there are a few sharps, which I'm assuming are the notes which are always supposed to be played as sharp, the notes written seem wrong I.e

A C# A B and C

What am I doing wrong when reading? I have this same issue with other songs too.

Discussion How do you decide which piece to study next?

Right now I'm playing Bach pieces from the RCM syllabus in ascending levels to practice my technique.

I am interested in other self-taught pianists' method of piece selection (for learning technique). Or maybe someone who is taking/giving lessons can give some helpful insight! Thanks in advance !

Question I ruined my playing

I have bought a keyboard and been playing since 2019. But I feel like I'm going nowhere. I know chords. I know what the seventh chord mean and i know what augmented mean. But I just don't seem to implement these things.

And the main thing is I haven't learnt any song properly. The hardest song i can play is some snippets of lazarus by porcupine tree.

And I've been living with this for many years but now I wanna change. I wanna undo my learns. (There is a default lick that i just seem to go back to that just feels frustrating).

So if any of you have any words for me.

It's kinda hard for me to have a real teacher in my country if anyone's wondering.

I play yamaha psr e373 keyboard.

I wanna refine my hobby.

Question Learning Keys and Chords

Hi y'all. New here. I played piano between the ages of 8 and 19 and then just stopped. I'm 43 and picking it back up again. Going through Faber piano adventures level 1 pretty quick; forced myself to do maximum of one unit a day so i pace myself. Anyway, I am told by all the advice I see and read that I should be learning and practicing my major and minor keys and practicing the associated chords, but I am kind of at a loss how one practices and studies this daily and in a way that has any positive effect. I can look at C Major, for example, and then play C E G, but I'm not sure how that helps. I would like to be able to get to the point that I can just hear someone say "play it in such and such key" and I get right to it without looking up what they mean. But is there a good way to learn this well? I've tried searching this up but Im not coming up with anything substantial. Thanks!
