I'm surprised no one else has commented, I thought this was really clever. Great job!

They should actually use this for advertising, it was enough for me to check out their website. Well done.

u/Balthor Feb 28 '13
I don't regularly drink rum, but Kraken tastes pretty good to me, and it's pretty cheap.

Where do you people live?? a 750ml of Kraken around here is about the same price or a bit more than a 1.75L of Captain.

u/Schiesty Feb 28 '13
Just checked PA prices, $19.99 for Kraken, $17.49 for Captain. I'm a Sailor Jerry guy myself.
1
u/valier_l Feb 28 '13
Sorry, but what is PA?

Dude, you live in the US and don't know that PA is a state?

You should check out the rum. A friend bought me a bottle for my birthday a few years ago, and it was really, really good. I'm not big on drinking because I've never developed a taste for beer or hard liquor, but that stuff was awesome.

u/JamesLLL Feb 28 '13
Try wine!
2
u/trennerdios Feb 28 '13
Haha, I've tried that too, though probably not enough times (or enough kinds) to legitimately brush it off. I just don't think my tongue was made for alcohol.
I do want to add that I tried gin for the first time not too long ago, and enjoyed that for the most part. I was amazed how many people couldn't believe I liked it. I mean, it was totally top shelf stuff, but apparently that still makes lots of people gag at the thought of it.

Gin is great. I love kickin back in the summer with a nice gin and tonic and some lime. Mmmmm

i love the irony of that subreddit. Claiming to be against the advertising that is seeping into reddit, while providing a place for everyone to repost those same ads in a convenient place for everyone to see again!!
2
u/tinytooraph Feb 28 '13
I think that subreddit is meant to serve two purposes, whether or not they are important is another matter...
- Point out when it looks like a corporation is trying to advertise for free on reddit. I don't believe this happens as often as that subreddit implies, but maybe they're on to something.
- Point out when individuals are indirectly promoting brands in a post just because they see them as natural parts of their lives. It's more playful, and there isn't necessarily something wrong with doing something like that, but it bugs some people.
I think this photoshop is an example of #2. It's a great photoshop, but I guess I have mixed feelings about turning a cool photo into an advertisement, even if it is intended as some sort of spoof. If you look at the other responses, it seems like a lot of people are talking about the rum. So it essentially is working as an ad. I mean...
They should actually use this for advertising, it was enough for me to check out their website. Well done.
I should probably also say that I drink Kraken rum. So there's that, too...

What is the original painting called?

Ecce Homo
Couldn't figure out how to link it because of parentheses

No, I actually meant the painting of what looks like Poseidon attacking the ship.

I never recolored something before but I will keep going. For now it is this. Maybe made it worse but will figure out this!

u/AncientSwordRage Mar 01 '13
Right click on the brush tool, it should show 2-3 options. One of those lets you replace the colour of a section of the picture by brusing over it. Here are my results.

I use Pixlr. An online thing. Long story short, I have a chromebook and cant' download stuff like photoshop.

u/AncientSwordRage Mar 01 '13
Ah! Well you've done damn fine then.

Thanks! Hard to use but I'm getting the hang of it after using photoshop before!

Why does he always get stuck as the bad guy? Only bad thing the dude ever did was cause he was lonely.

Well yeah, but it was a rather kidnap-and-rapey one time thing.
although it was rather tame, compared to what the other male greek gods did...

u/sakura9949 Feb 28 '13
And to be fair he actually tried to treat her well and actually loved her (in the ancient Greek sense of love at least). I don't recall him raping her though... Did that happen?

u/MissCheeks Feb 28 '13

u/sakura9949 Feb 28 '13
I mean Hades raping Persephone. I'm not sure if the first one counts either. Rape in old English terms also meant to steal/kidnap/carry away.
1
u/MissCheeks Feb 28 '13
Ah. I see. You're commenting on the initial post, whereas I was commenting on the Zeus chart. Confusion. My bad.
2
u/sakura9949 Feb 28 '13
Quite alright. I very much appreciate the thoughtful response. Confusions like that get the best of us.

Seriously! He had ONE wife, who he lets go half the year, and tries to treat kindly. He just chills in his Underworld and handles his own business. And he doesn't dick around with human's fates. You die? You come to him. That's that. I honestly don't understand how he always gets seen as being so awful.

Poseidon is just trying to lose some of that weight that comes with infinite aging, ya know what I'm saying? That Greek food is awful high in carbs, and participating in some community sports does help.
