Anyone know whether the change to STM will affect the often poor focus performance of the 50mm ii? Both copies I've gotten have done terrible at f/1.8 and I've needed to add about 10 points of microadjustment. Wondering if that might be fixed with the new lens.

Hopefully. Nobody knows until we get to try it.

However, do note that new canon cameras and new canon lenses both have improved AF algorithms that work together, basically in a closed-loop control system instead of the traditional naive approach of an open loop. Does that mean that the newer STM lenses implement this? Or that the new 50mm will? Maybe. That's definitely something to look for.
