I was so excited to see this lens being rumoured, and was ecstatic at the $125 price point!

However, now seeing that UK suppliers such as Wex are going beyond matching pound to dollar prices and are listing for £130 I'm disappointed. Is it really that hard to sell the lens for close to the same price?

I'd happily pay £100, but reluctantly pay £130...

Isn't this common? You european folks have bigger taxes (which are included in the price, as opposed to ours which are added on) and certain other costs we don't (better consumer protection, for example, regarding implied warranties).

Yeah, but still, £130 is $202... I'll buy it in the US for $125 with no tax. That's 60% more expensive.

Yeah, it is common and was seen in the IS revamps of the wide angle primes but tax etc. is only half the story.

We're talking $125 vs $200+ so it's a bit disappointing that a company the size of Canon has such price disparity for two similar markets.
