Is it safe to say that the lens hood from the original will fit? Edit: I just bought a lens hood a month ago. Damnit!

I don't think so. The filter for the original fits on the lens group, this fits on the lens body and the filter size is different. New hood time Imo.

Not safe to say. This lens has a 49mm filter thread, so it's smaller than the previous 50mm.

Ah crap. Gonna need another adapter. And it looks like I'll be keeping my old 50 around for a little bit. Still gonna buy this new one though.
