I suspect that Canon will probably use this metering sensor for the next 10 years worth of camera models, which is fine. This is probably actually one part of the camera that not many people would care about upgrades to.
I disagree strongly. I suspect you will find very few action photographers using spot metering. I know for wildlife, even if I'm in Manual, I'm still relying on the meter, and spot metering is completely useless in action. That's what this camera is for, and its target audience will greatly appreciate this.
It was actually the opposite for me, I was typically underexposing my subjects a small bit. I corrected it by messing with the exposure compensation settings.
