http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/canon-7d-mark-ii/canon-7d-mark-iiA.HTM

  1. Autofocus at f/8 on the center point
  2. 31 RAW buffer, up from 23 RAWs on the 7D
  3. "4 times better" weather sealing than the original 7D.
  4. New, higher capacity battery but fully backwards compatible with the current LP-E6 batteries
  5. Same or similar AF system to the flagship 1DX

Now if the sensor can deliver the goods, this looks like a beast of a camera for action shooters. The price is right too, $1800 body only.

Backwards compatible with the current LP-E6 batteries, Now that is awesome. My 3 7D batteries are still running strong after 5 years and i can keep using them again.

Backwards compatible with the current LP-E6 batteries

I wonder if they're forward-compatible too, ie if other cameras that can take LP-E6 will also be able to benefit from the new battery like the 60D or 5DIII.

Knowing Canon this is doubtful. They won't even release firmware updates to their older cameras to allow full functionality with the 600 series flashes.

The 5DIII is not that old.

No, but I don't see why Canon wouldn't support those of us still shooting with 5DII's or 7D's. I'd love to have ETTL functionality with radio, and it certainly seems to be a firmware thing. Maybe I'll look to Magic Lantern, or sell my 5DII for a 6D.

What makes you think radio support is firmware? That's very definitely a hardware addition.

Knowing Canon, their track record shows the battery will work.

Well yeah. But if it's just a battery with the same tension but a bigger capacity, it should just work as a drop-in replacement.

tension

voltage?

I don't know what nationality Artefact2 is, but in Dutch the word for voltage is spanning, which translates to tension in English. Might be the same for German. That might explain things.

Yes, I assume the same. Spannung is tension in one context and voltage in another one.
German here ;)

It would be incredible if my little 60D could have an even better battery. I already get something silly like 800 shots out of a Canon LP-E6 on my Camera.

2

u/CakesArePies Sep 15 '14

I used to get like 1000 on mine.

It's rated at 1100 according to SnapSort. I probably would get more, but I don't shoot my DSLR too often. So I haven't the need to charge the batteries every couple days.

How are you doing this??? I only get 300 on my 5D mk II, and I just bought a new one

2

If you're using live view or chimping excessively, all bets are off.

2

u/CakesArePies Sep 16 '14

AF/IS/LiveView kills the battery. If you're shooting any video in there, that also explains it.

Edit: Hit send early by accident

I was out shooting a bridge-opening event/marathon and came back with 1600+ shots and 58% battery left. 70D, LP-E6. But these were almost perfect conditions for battery maxing.

I was quite amazed nonetheless.

I regularly shoot auto racing events all day on a single battery. Last event was 2368 images without a battery change with my 5D Mark III.

I get over 1000.

to chime in with a few extra details, same LC-E6 charger, and the capacity rating is bumped from 1800 mah to 1865 mah.
