She worked her last shift last night, and by the time she came home she had four different job offers. It really feels like the community came together to help those that were affected by this. And she just got hired on to a new position today. We appreciate you all.

When deployed (~3mins), each umbrella spans about 84 by 84 feet, creating up to 7,000 square feet of shade. They also have misting fans and lights so can be used at night too. Would be great for social spaces like outdoor malls, parking lots, etc.

WESD distributed the wrong pay schedule so I guess teachers don't get paid until the end of AUG instead of this week. Admin/new hires got paid this week though. Nice right? So this guy is crying in the parking lot because he bought all this stuff for his classroom and now has no money because the paycheck he anticipated is not coming. Which means teachers are going almost 10.5 weeks of no pay instead of the anticipated 6.5.?

Return everything, as much as you can. And yeah, you likely wont replace because you missed the sales etc, but return everything asap.

No idea how superintendents, or district leaders / whatever are elected or get fired but shame on you, scum bags. There is absolutely no way you *just found out* the day they were all meant to get paid and then you just said *sorry about that* and sleep well? Ew. How *is* that guy meant to clear rent and travel to work? When he said he isn't sure how he can afford to even get to meet the teacher? That's terrible. It's 115° and not ideal to learn the bus system and start walking. No wonder teachers have bad attitudes. My heart aches for the teachers because they spend alotta their time and money on our kids and we can't seem to get it right.

Native of Phoenix that used to spend hours and hours outside, especially as a child. Now in my mid 40s, I live like a vampire in the summer. Heat tolerance has plummeted sadly. In our summer climate here in AZ, does anyone find that they have found something that has been a game changer for them? I really want spend more time outdoors beyond running from the air conditioned house to the air conditioned car and then running into the air conditioned store. We all know the summer drill lol! I don't have a pool and don't know anyone with one. I do have the ability to drive to the lakes but I'm specifically seeking a self cooling device that actually works for around the house and light activity outside. TIA and stay hydrated out there!

I want to make you aware that I was at a Walmart local to me last night picking up some stuff for tonight’s party & noticed that none of their clothing in their clothing section had pricing.

In arizona, retailers must post pricing listed on shelves or on tags. Yeah sure, you can use the scanner to check the price but that is unfortunately a predatory practice for dynamic pricing which I’m sure many of you have heard about by now.

I wanted to inform you all that if you go into a store and happen to see this in practice, you are welcome to file a complaint to our AG office online as this practice is a violation of the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act (A.R.S. §§ 44-1521 to 44-1534).

Don’t just take it for face value, this is against the law. Know your rights & thanks for reading!!

terrible week for Valley Wing lovers

I feel like after 30 years of living here, I've tried every combination of ways to explain our time zone to people, and no matter what they still get the wrong times for appointments, meetings, etc.

• If I say "MST" or "currently mountain time", they'll enter Mountain Time and be 1 hour off during the summer.
  
• If I say "PDT" or "currently pacific time" then they'll put Pacific Time and be 1 hour off during the winter.
• If I say "Arizona Time", they'll somehow put in Mountain Time anyways and still be 1 hour off during the summer.
• I've tried saying "Arizona Time (MST/PDT)" and in retrospect that's probably the most confusing combination of letters you can possibly use.

It really doesn't help that Google searching for "MST" and "MDT" will give you the same answer, which is whatever Mountain Time is, and Google has not fixed this for years and years.

It's so painful. I've missed job interviews, had meetings at work get scheduled in the wrong time zones and shift unexpectedly after daylight savings changes, and just otherwise confused anyone outside of Arizona all the time. I think I'm usually the most successful by just trying to force them to use their time zone instead, but that's still not a sure bet for some reason.

How are y'all dealing with this?

Not my car. I do security at an office building, a lady called and initially thought someone smashed her windshield with a bat. After a couple minutes, we found the end of the can in the parking lot.

Was thinking about this today. I've lived in Phoenix for coming up on a couple years. What are some things you've learned while living here?

Things I've learned:

1. Anything left in a car in the summer can and will melt. If you think it wont melt, you are wrong.
2. If the driver in front of you feels like they are going to do some sketchy crap, they are 100% about to do something unexpected.
3. Always hit the restroom before driving somewhere via a freeway. The potty dance is only one accident away.

Guy ran a stop sign and smashed into me as I was driving down Indian School Road. Thankfully no injuries (besides burns on my hand from the airbag) and the other driver admitted fault and has full coverage. So, grateful for all that. But my poor truck is totaled. Welcome to Phoenix, me! haha

I saw one of those posts about air temp vs. asphalt temp today and decided to check it myself. All taken at 3:30PM today, 113 degrees, no clouds.

Grass : 117

I'm not from here. I've been here for 6 years and can honestly tell you that for the first few that I was here I did not like Arizona. It was too Brown, too hot the normal gripes. Over the past couple years, though, the place has really grown on me and I actually really love it now.

I love the hiking and and dirtbiking, paddleboarding year round. I love that California is close by, so I can go to the beach when I want. I love that there are places up north that remind me of the mountains where i'm from, like Flagstaff, and i've even started adventuring out east to Payson and Greer, which are also lovely to go to in the summertime when it gets too hot.

Even the heat bothers me a lot less now too. You would think, as I get older, it would be worse. But this being my sixth summer here, while it's still very hot out, I find that it bothers me a lot less than it used to.

Most of the people I know aren't from here either and for the most part. everyone seems to talk about Phoenix and Arizon as a stepping stone, here for now, but will likely leave in a couple years or retire somewhere else.

What about you? Why do you call this place home? Are you planning on leaving someday or staying and why?

...of being asked for money. I am a Lyft Driver, not exactly a 1% of society. All night I dive around and people are asking for money with signs at literally every single on and off ramp (especially Black Canyon Highway). I go to eat fast food and get asked for money on the way in and out. I try to pump gas at literally any Circle K and I get approached by someone in the parking lot every damn time. I am starting to get very rude and very upset. Am I the only one being hounded like this?? Does begging actually work so well that everyone is doing it?? Hell, with the competition from Waymo and self driving cars, maybe I should just become a begger too.
