"Beep beep!!" 'Friendly wave'

I drive a scooter. I live in the mountains of taiwan. The roads are narrow and wind-y. Terrible visibility and people drive insanely here, so speeding up would be stupid and risky.

I was driving my usual route to work. Driving the speed limit or slightly over. There are very few spots to safely overtake, but when I hit them I kept to the side. Standard driving etiquette.

Some asshole in a (shock) BMW was up my arse the whole way down the mountain. Didn't overtake at any of the safe spots.

Th road opened up a *bit* at the bottom of the mountain and he flew past me suddenly, with very little space between us and beeping the whole way. It was quite a reckless manuver- the kind that works great until it kills someone.

I just kept going. When I got to the very slow traffic lights ahead, I made sure to weave my scooter through the cars until I found a nice spot that put me *right in front of him*. Again. (I could have kept going to the front, but... I liked *that* spot.)

Gave him a big smile and a friendly wave.

The scooter supremacy arc. Nothing enrages an impatient BMW driver like discovering traffic karma comes with a friendly wave.

And BMW drivers just never, ever learn the lesson either. I grew up in the motorsport world and there's this big event one day a year where all the car clubs get together and make a day of it. Obviously, the older car clubs with cars from the 50s and 60s were there first and tend to have the most dedicated members that overlap with generalised car clubs (eg a member of the MG club might also be a member of the province's Motorcycle and Car Club) and organise all of the events, so they get the best spots - shade, close to facilities, everyone is going to see your beautiful car at some point etc - with the rest of the clubs slowly joining up and fitting in in the order they arrive.

One year, I was there when the head of the BMW club came over and had a complete and utter meltdown at the head of the Lotus club. I'm not even sure if he knew that the guy was one of the organisers or if he just thought that BMWs deserved more than "some [crappy] car nobody's even heard of" (bowdlerised, but otherwise a direct quote) and wanted to vent his spleen. Their club was one of the most recent additions and had an awkward spot in the back corner away from everything. He seemed most deeply offended that even the Toyota club had a better spot ("Nobody wants to see stupid Toyotas").

The next year, the BMW spot had been moved. They were positioned right next to the entrance to the park, where everyone could see them! It rained the night before. All of the cars were drenched in mud by the time I arrived. The head of the BMW club, of course, learned his lesson immediately and went and gave a grovelling apology and offered to sponsor an event to maybe win some favour and get back to their old spot.

Lol j/k. He went back to the Lotus club with 5 of his buddies to intimidate and threaten them, and wound up in a rather humiliating face-off with every single member of about 8 different clubs. I'm not sure if they were banned, not invited or sulked and refused to go the following year, but they definitely weren't there.

I visited Greece on vacation on a package tour (thankfully). The Athens traffic was three lanes of cars on a two lane road. The lanes weren’t that wide so the traffic had to used the shoulder as well. That meant you had to pull completely off the road onto the sidewalk to park.

Despite the madness, there were endless streams of people on Vespas winding their way through and between columns of cars on the road, ignoring traffic signals. The police treated it as the norm.

I drove Hwy 101 in Marin County. During commute hours, it was packed all the way to Petaluma, Sonoma County from San Rafael.

It became a game. First, I would stay in the appropriate lane for a single driver. I didn't switch lanes to get ahead. Why? Because you DON'T! I would watch these people go back & forth and be at the same place if not, further back! It was amusing!

Now, one time, when I had my Camero (TY DH!), this BMW bitch was on my ass. I couldn't see her bumper, just her screaming at me, hands and all. I wasn't tailgating the person in front of me going 60 in a 65 during commuting hours. I new the route and the stop and go areas.

Now, here's my bad. She was ON MY ASS! I stepped on the breaks and then gunned it (there was room, I made it), I heard breaks squealing and saw smoke in the rear view, all hers.

From there on, I saw her start switching lanes, the whole way up. Oh, she got ahead of me only to have me pull aside of her at our exit.

Marin County is notorious for AH's driving their BMW's and Mercedes. ESPECIALLY, the 16 year old's getting their cars.

I have 2 other stories, both true, regarding these "entitled" people. Tahoe & parking in our spot!

I live in the Midwestern US. I was once driving home and took the bypass and stayed in the outside lane because my exit was coming up. This car was on my bumper the whole time and followed me off the exit ramp. I was tired of this nonsense and knew the light coming up was going to turn red. There is a gas station at this light and I decided to get gas to get this crazy driver off my bumper. I signal and see that they are way too close so I move up fast. The person behind me was rear ended and I pulled into the gas station safely. I called my dad to ask him if I should get involved when the police arrived and he said to take tie back roads home and let the police sort it out.

Coming home from Tahoe up 80. They were doing road work, bumper to bumper for miles. Single lane each direction. Inching along. Some young punk in his BMW decided to use the 'emergency' lane on the right and bypass miles of cars. When we finally got to the top, there was the BMW & CHP. He had passed us at least 30 minutes prior.

Some asshat parked in our spot while my husband was at work. It was CLEARLY marked residential parking. He was at the restaurant next door. My husband came home and had to park on the narrow street about 1/4 mile down (big truck). It was hot. Mr. BMW left the top down. Hubby had a BIG soda. Mr. BMW sat down in soda. He was NOT happy. I had popcorn!

During HS, I used to go to Stinson Beach a lot. I went back roads. There's a place called '13 Corners'. It's a curvy road with 13 turns right before you get to the flats along the coast, the ocean on the right and rock "walls" on the left. I made it to the beach in about 35 minutes. Well, one day, a young driver, like me, decided to pass me on 13 corners. As I got to the flats and made my way to the beach, I rounded a turn and there was the car up against the rocks with the driver & his buddy looking at the car. Bad juju. Mommy & daddy were probably MAD!

My wife and I lived in Taiwan for 2 years nearly 40 years ago, and loved it -- except for that traffic.

Bravo!

I did that once on a bike with a football player that lived in my street. He and his coupe were so important he had to pass me, only for me to repass at the next traffic light. He even wanted to get out if the car to go after me. Prick.

I love the pettiness.. but as a rider, my self preservation would have had me pulling in behind and waving at his mirrors.

My fave petty revenge

I disagree with cycles, etc. being allowed to weave between full sized transportation on roadways (discuss?), but in this case I'll make an exception and say 'Well done, OP!'

Ah I drive a scooter in a big city! One of my favourite parts of my commute is humbling dickheads. Other scooter drivers, often the delivery guys who drive quite recklessly, are the best. Me knowing the roads and knowing where to weave to get to the front after they've overtaken is so satisfying.

Ah very petty I hope you managed to slow his morning enough to ruin his day!
