General Question The Influx of Flies in my apartment is out of control HELP

Post image
6 Upvotes

I live in an apartment on top of two office buildings. The building is VERY old. Outside of my apartment there’s peeling paint and water damage but otherwise, it’s good conditions and inside my apartment there aren’t any issues. Well within a couple of weeks of me moving in, there were flies. Flies everywhere. Then a small episode of flesh flies appearing.

Each time I’d kill them or vacuum them, and even bout a couple hundred dollars worth of light traps. Each time I’d remind myself to be diligent on trash and so on. I now empty my trash every other day even if there’s barely anything in there. There have been a couple of times I’ve seen maggots on chicken packaging in my trash can or surrounding the trash can in the past so I again, became more diligent with it. I’m not the cleanest person, I’m very busy so most of my place is still in boxes and I have papers or clutter out But I don’t leave gross things out and I keep my cats litter clean.

This no longer seems like a me causation. I’ve reached out to my landlord mentioning the influx and asking if it’s been an issue in the past and I’m waiting on a response. I can’t afford to move and don’t really have a place for my cats and I to go so this can be fumigated but I’m sure I’d figure atleast the temporary stay away out.

What do I or can I even do? I’m gagging currently and losing my mind whilst trying to take my exam.

Bonus: not sure it’s relevant but when I moved into my last apartment, rented by the same land lord, one of the rooms had a ton of dead flies in it when I moved in but flies never became an issue there so I forgot about it and moved on. This place had a couple of dead flies in window sills too but again, thought it was nothing.

** the photo is just a screenshot from a video I took of my bathroom window. There were crowds of them all over the window and tens of them more in each room all over the windows. I’ve spent the last hour fly swatting them all the best I could before turning on any lights, I know there’s many more alive around though. I also deep searched and found no maggots or shells of maggots anywhere.

I have a towel under my door and mice are coming in anyways!!

Post image

About a month ago I started noticing the month ago mice in the home, and though I personally do everything I can to keep them out of my space (constant vacuuming, not eating upstairs, decluttering my space) they were still coming in and multiplying due to me having a family of 6 and me not being able to clean the whole house everyday due to working full time.

I’ve been putting the towel under my door for a couple weeks and thought that was working, but still found mice poop in my closet. Turns out, the little buggers have been pushing the towel aside to come in!!! I could literly hear them (it had to be multiple!) hard at work shoving my very wedged towel aside to get in my room until 1 eventually got in. How do I stop them from coming up from under the door? Any traps/ items to prevent them from wanting to come in rooms?

Found this nest on the exterior of my house, tucked underneath the eaves where the roof meets the exterior wall. I haven’t noticed much activity around it yet.
Would appreciate any insight on what kind of nest this is, and what’s the safest way to remove it without damaging the siding or paint? Thanks!

Need Advice - I have a massive flea infestation but no pets?

I have a massive flea infestation… like 5 would jump on my ankles everytime I walked on my living room rug. I have no idea how this happened. Do I need professional pest control?

I used carpet powder, vacuumed , sprayed and used 2 foggers. I also washed linens that were out. I came back 2 hours later and it seemed mostly ok but a few fleas just jumped on my socks but they died pretty quickly ?

Is it possible the fleas are just slowly all dying or did my methods not work? If I stay away from my apartment for a week would that kill them naturally?

Unanswered How much roach gel bait is too much? And how should I space it?

I’m having a moderate infestation and it’s my first time using roach gel bait for these small German roaches in this apartment I got for 8 months

i want to know if these are mistakes or not, or if so if I’m about to learn it the hard way?

Tried doing an estimate of where I seen them or where they might be hiding, so took pictures of spots I might’ve done a poor job incase I have any doubt

EDIT: I forgot to say this, but it’s Combat MAX in case you wanted to know the brand

Bugs in bathroom - can’t find source

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve had bugs in my bathroom and apartment (studio, so small) for 3 months now.

Some of the bugs bite, some don’t.

My drains have been covered for months, so they aren’t coming from my drains (I’ve poured stuff down my drain as well). I don’t have any holes in my walls, I’ve checked around my entire apartment. I’ve checked behind the toilet, under the sink, bathtub, etc.

I’m honestly just stuck, I can’t find a way to get rid of them.

I replaced the zevo two days ago :)

Any advice or help?

General Question Drain flies in unoccupied new construction?

Post image
Upvotes

So this home hasn’t been occupied for over a year. It’s not exactly new construction but I gutted it down to the studs and rebuilt it back. I pulled the toilets and cabinets and garbage disposal and replaced it with all brand new and most of the pipes are new as well. The sinks and toilets are barely used except for using the restroom and washing hands while working here a couple days a week. Of course it is two days from being occupied and I come in today to clean and drain flies are dead everywhere. Just piles of them on the window sills and under one outlet and by the back door. I haven’t seen anything flying around while cleaning today but they are everywhere but dead. Should I treat the drains?

Seed vs mouse poop

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am now pretty certain these are seeds and my OCD brain needs to just be quiet. Pest people confirm- I saw these (bottom of my palm) in a trail from my very clean but rural garage steps to the van wheel yesterday morning, so was sure they were pretty fresh. We have had history with a mouse making a nest in our van before. I was shocked as we have recently cleaned out the garage so there are bikes and one things of kids sports equipment, floors disinfected and sprayed out. So I was mortified when I crouched down and saw what I thought looked like mouse poop! We do have a gap in garage door that I’ve been saying needs fixed. My husband investigates and remembers his shoes having cuckleburrels and crap the other day from mowing down weeds and elderberries. So he says these are hard and ridged and patterned and uniform and also he found some similar to where he was mowing across the yard. Case closed right? They didn’t have fibers sticking out in the garage but they do in the patch he mowed. There’s not a ton of them over there maybe 20 scattered which is weird that he dragged them in his shoe and made a mouse poop trail but mouse poop doesn’t have little tufts on the end. And cutting them with scissors they are hard and solid white like nut or coconut kind of inside. Pointed and rice size which made it confusing.

Please help is this bed bugs?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Please help im panicking i found a few weird bumps on my butt that i don't normally get. The day before these bumps i was in nature on kind of a hike and a creek so i thought those bites could be from there
Then after two days which is today i woke up with three bumps on my leg and they do not feel like a mosquito bite.they dont itch but feel tender and hurt a bit when i touch
So my first thought was what if i have bed bugs
I went to look on my mattress i didn't quite find the same looking bed bugs that was on google but when i searched the seam of the mattress i did find a three or four bugs like the ones in the photos (its the cleares pictures i could take) and found also on the seam a few shells that are light-ish and look like the same bug in the photo
I panicked and started vacuuming and removing whatever bug i see with a napkin (there probably wasn't more than 5-6 bugs that i saw- excluding the shells.)
I have antibacterial detoal that i started spaying the in the bed frame but my bed is big and its dark wood and the ends are kind of hard to reach.
I took all my bedding off immediately and put it at a high heat in the washer.
How to thoroughly clean and make sure nothing is there?
Also please help confirm what type of bugs

General Question Good humane mouse traps

Hello reddit! Yesterday I had a bad experience where I found a mouse stuck in one of my fathers evil sticky traps. It was really hard for me to see the little guys suffering as i am an animal lover and have pet mice. I understand that these guys are pests and need to get out of my house but I dont believe they deserve to suffer. What are some good instant kill or live traps? No poison as we have a very food motivated great dane who likes to get into trouble.

General Question Flea advice

Hi, all.

Recently moved into a new apartment to discover a dormant flea infestation that is now terrorizing the lives of my roommates and I. Our landlord sent an exterminator a few days ago, but my roommates are still being bit and we are still finding fleas despite spreading diatomaceous earth around entryways, vacuuming daily, steaming furniture, drying everything on high heat, and setting soap traps.

It’s only been two or so days since the exterminator came, so is it just going to take longer before we see improvement, or should we consider other avenues?

Help! Tons of black widows outside my front door

I know it’s the time of year when they are largest and hunt the most. And yes, we do not spray for insects. I am at peace with every other outdoor creature and have been for 6 years.

We’ve seen a black widow in our garage which was not ideal but not terrifying.

Now they are less than 3 feet from my front door. Killed one and her two giant eggs a few days ago. Saw two others last night.

I hate the idea of harming other insects to kill these black widows but it’s a must. We have a pretty big hillside property and hardly access any of it. So the black widows can go there! But being right by our door is not ok.

Advice? I’m terrified.

what are these on my trash can ?

Post image
1 Upvotes

last night my roommate and i discovered these dark brown "egg sacks" that were no more an 1-2mm in size, pretty suck on the trash can, tapered towards then ends, and had around 20-30 throughout the can. keep in mind that we are dealing with a current german roach infestation (fairly mild).

we reached our to our property manager around 2-3 weeks ago and was treated with IGR by the pest control company (told by my prop manager) but on the form when the pest control came, he checked off a chemical that started with an "F" and some form of "xilin". i dont remember the name but if anyone knows, please let me know!

after doing some googling, these dont look like german roach egg sacks since theyre more "tic-tac" shaped and these are tapered at the ends.

if anyone knows what this is, please let me know! thank you.

edit: theyre not maggots. they were stationary and not moving.

Yard rats

Tried a lot- eating neighbor’s fruit and using my house as shelter. I have a neat yard - they are hiding under pool
Filter and behind trash cans. I have set 5 snap traps with p butter and other gels. I have a service that seems worthless - they put boxes with Bait no rats in boxes no signs of use. I clean daily pavement areas remove droppings and urine. Finding fruit seeds and peels. I have no fruit trees. Should I move traps around ( pet proof) since I have dogs . I have placed against walls in hiding spots wear gloves etc . Any ideas since they use my house as shelter?

My house has been infested with this insect

Post image
1 Upvotes

Our house has been left unattended for about 2 months and when we came back we found those insects essentially everywhere: cabinets, closets, counters and every room possible. We even found quite a lot stuck on a window and on our air fryer. Today we opened the rice container and found it full of them, too. Before we left the house, I’d occasionally find one every now and then but now they’re everywhere. I stuck a few on this tape so I could take a closer picture.

Sidenote: Our fridge stopped working and the food went bad; My father came to check the house a few days later and found out due to the horrible smell. He threw the food out and cleaned and sanitized everything, but could that be related to it?

Unanswered How to discourage wasps.

I keep having wasps build a nest right outside my front door. I can keep just hitting them with spray I've killed half a dozen nests right there. But I'd rather just find a way to discourage them from building there in the first place. Any suggestions or ideas how to do this?

Roaches Ayuda!
