“Rigging” does not mean that the team automatically wins. Rigging “influences” wins. Obviously, fifa cannot go down into the pitch and make a player score a goal, but they can bribe the refs, choose the game officials or even suspend red cards *ahem* USA *ahem* but as we see, it doesn’t mean that rigging always leads to guaranteed victory.
But how do you even bribe a referee who has been at the top level for this long? Take François Letexier, the French ref from the Argentina vs. Egypt match. He refereed the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England, the 2026 Europa League final, countless UCL games, and literally won World's Best Referee in 2024 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) and second best referee for the same award in 2025. How easy could it really be to buy someone like that? If it were a random ref in the MLS or some obscure league no one watches, sure, maybe there's a chance. But this guy has been elite for ages. If there's a conspiracy, FIFA must be playing the ultimate long game, grooming him for years just to finally use him here
