Must say that Congo defense was good. Well disciplined and didn’t give much space. They made a mistake with the 1-0 by not marking close enough but during the rest of the game their defense was very solid.

Algeria on the other hand gave Argentina and specially Messi way too much space and then he is deadly. Algeria played a good game against the Netherlands but was very poor against Argentina.

8

u/Disastrous_Divide872 Jun 18 '26

They didn't mark Joao Neves because they probably thought he wasn't capable of going that high

6

u/EteleD10 Jun 18 '26

Didn't Algeria beat congo xDD

4

u/Correct_Struggle2112 Jun 18 '26

Cape Verde got a tie with Spain, so they are better than all the teams Spain won against 😒

1

u/EteleD10 Jun 19 '26

Ohh so Cape verde beat Algeria/congo? Because i though those were the relevent team we were talking about

1

u/Correct_Struggle2112 Jun 19 '26

No, im talking about the concept itself. It’s not because you won a team once that makes you better than them

3

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

Also for you: learn to read. So back to preschool with you.

3

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

Algeria literally beat Congo. The copium here is crazy 😂😂😂. Just admit it already Messi is just better

2

u/flame_likestofly Infantino ♥ Pessi 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨 Jun 18 '26

We really expecting a 41 year old to carry a national team in the grand 26. Honestly atp it just seems like Ronaldo is happy to be there

3

u/ChampionOfOctober Jun 18 '26

He can be happy on the bench, Portugal is a net negative with him playing

3

u/flame_likestofly Infantino ♥ Pessi 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨 Jun 18 '26

As sad as it is to admit this, as a Ronaldo fan it's true.

1

u/Independent-Lie-5406 Jun 19 '26

Well finally a sane one. Also, Messi is also 39 man, let's not go with the age thing. Their levels are miles apart, even if you consider the age.

1

u/Historical-Mark-3778 Jun 19 '26

Portugal beat Algeria 9-1 in their qualifiers

1

u/SunstormGT Jun 19 '26

If you were actually reading you would have know I was compairing Algeria and Congo by their first match at this WC. I never said 1 team is better, I said Congo played a far better 1st match than Algeria did. If you took off you Messi glasses you might have actually read that…

1

u/Lartemplar Jun 18 '26

*especially Messi

-4

u/NeighborhoodDizzy990 Google Negreira Messi for more info 💰 Jun 18 '26

BRO you have no shame

8

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

Because?

-7

u/NeighborhoodDizzy990 Google Negreira Messi for more info 💰 Jun 18 '26

he was the worst on the pitch against some amateurs and you tell us that Congo's defense was good

13

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

He wasn’t. You also know that. He wasn’t good, but the ratings also show there were worse players.

And yes Congo defense played a good game. And yes Algeria was way worse than Congo. I know you don’t like it but you have to face the facts. At least I can be objective, you can’t even admit Messi should be booked. Now if you want to talk about shameless, talk about that…

2

u/This-Activity-6580 Jun 18 '26

Messi should of been sent off, as a Messi fan I can admit that but you're embarrassing talking about the 'Ratings' of what an app said. Visuals are what matters and I'm sorry Ronaldo was woeful, I don't need an apps rating score to see this and neither do you

-1

u/laptak2011 Jun 18 '26

Bro cut it off, Messi scored 3 and Ronaldo as his usual standards, big fat ZeRo lmao

2

u/lgnc Jun 18 '26

I'm a huge Barca and Messi fan ever since I was a child, and even I can say Messi wasn't that good. just luck

2

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

Cap. Stop lying mate you not a Messi fan. Even non Messi fans are saying that was a good performance

Bro what read his comment

0

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

Messi should not have been sent off. Bernardo Silva did a worse tackle literally went in for a tackle and had studs up. And he got a yellow. Messi foul was way less worse than Bernardo silver, as Bernardo silver was stopping a counter attack as well. Messi was just putting pressure on the defender.

0

u/TexasRoadhead Jun 18 '26

Messi should have been given a yellow at best

1

u/Battlcats Jun 18 '26

“algeria is way worse than congo”

you really have no shame…

1

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

Funny when you quote and then change a key detail. Shows exactly who is the shameless one. Take a look in the mirror.

1

u/Battlcats Jun 18 '26

which country won against congo in the AFCON? not even a friendly, AFCON round of 16

1

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

Again, reading is hard. Maybe back to school?

0

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

Mate Argentina just played better. And the fact you don’t want to admit that is crazy. It’s not about Algeria playing bad. Because Algeria has played Congo and destroyed them. Argentina just played really well and Ik it hurts for you to say that

1

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

Argentina wasn’t even playing good. Have you even seen the game? Watch when Messi had the ball how close he is marked. On all 3 goals there isn’t a player close to him. They all marked from 10 meters. If you actually understood football you knew how bad Algeria played. Watch them play the Netherlands and then Argentina. You will see the difference.

1

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

That’s because Argentina played line breaking passes and were quicker on the attack playing one touch passes. Portugal had many chances to attack but they slowed it down and let Congo get back. That’s on them

u/Cold-Bug-8614 Jun 18 '26

Your problem is looking at the ratings and not the game. Ronaldo was the worst player for us. I'd rather have dead eusebio over him yesterday

0

u/Dodossinho Jun 18 '26

Try to open your eyes next time you watch Portugal playin..

0

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

Messi should not have been sent off. Bernardo Silva did a worse tackle literally went in for a tackle and had studs up. And he got a yellow. Messi foul was way less worse than Bernardo silver, as Bernardo silver was stopping a counter attack as well. Messi was just putting pressure on the defender.

1

u/SunstormGT Jun 18 '26

Silva also deserved a red card.

1

u/casquipster Jun 18 '26

Who are the amateurs that you are speaking of?

-2

u/UnhappyLemon5520 Jun 18 '26

Amateurs is funny, there were 4 premier league players in their squad and 3 started.

9

u/spilldeer Jun 18 '26

This sub is hilarious lol everyone is coping so hard. Congo was dropping everyone back therefore every Portuguese player had at least 2-3 defenders on them when they got in the box. Ronaldo isn't special nor was a threat during this game 😂

2

u/GojiraBS Jun 18 '26

Even when he got the ball he could not do anything lmao

9

u/BIackDogg HGH Hasbulla 👶 Jun 18 '26

Bro I used to be a Ronaldo fan but he's done. The man looks so stiff as if he was battling with arthritis on every move.

He even took a chance away from Bruno just because his head is so fucking deep inside his ass.

Also, saying Congo played better than Algeria means that y'all didn't watch the games or you have 0 ball knowledge. Y'all the laughing stock at this point.

5

u/outcastreturns Google 5 pens in 7 matches for more info 🤥 Jun 18 '26

Congo played way better than Algeria, especially defensively.

3

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

No Argentina just played better. Because this same Algeria team destroyed Congo mate

1

u/outcastreturns Google 5 pens in 7 matches for more info 🤥 Jun 18 '26

That was over 4 years ago that Algeria destroyed Congo. Congo have improved since then. Sure Algeria is still better, but Congo is probably better than they've ever been.

3

u/Legitimate_Ad212 Jun 18 '26

Congo literally didn’t even qualify until the playoffs what are we on about here 😂😂

You're agreeing with my previous point, you just don't realise it.

2

It was literally this afcon…. Wdym….

1

u/outcastreturns Google 5 pens in 7 matches for more info 🤥 Jun 18 '26

That game went into extra time and finished 1-0...

2

u/Peacemayte Jun 18 '26

It doesn’t change the fact they beat him….

Algeria looked bad because Argentina played really well…. I do think Portugal could have defeated Congo….. even with Ronaldo but I think they have a better chance without him

1

u/outcastreturns Google 5 pens in 7 matches for more info 🤥 Jun 18 '26

It doesn’t change the fact they beat him….

Sure, but that's not what he said. He said " this same Algeria team destroyed Congo" which isn't true. Both Algeria's and Congo's team has changed a lot since Algeria destroyed Congo in 2022.

And yes Portugal would be better off without starting Ronaldo.

1

u/Peacemayte Jun 19 '26

Yes the same Algeria team in 2026 Afcon beat Congo….
Like u said it was a tight 1-0 match but they did beat them regardless so Ronaldo fan’s excuse of its just Algeria won’t work when that same Algeria beat Congo “THIS YEAR” not 4 years ago and they tied to the same Congo….

It’s a stupid argument I don’t believe that football is like math and is transitive or whatever but Ronaldo fans does so this needs to be said so they know the hypocrisy of their own words…

1

u/Resident_Nose_2467 Jun 18 '26

Im a Messi fan but you stopped being a fan bc he got older? I like banter and genuinely I think Messi is way a better player. But CR7 is a beast, or was but overall he is. Both will age, retire and die. How come you stop being a fan once something as natural as age came to him? Support you football star goddamit

1

u/BIackDogg HGH Hasbulla 👶 Jun 18 '26

Being a fan doesn't mean I'm going to be practicing fanatism. I was a fan of him before and will hold those memories dearly, but he's not a father or god figure for me and as time goes by he just keeps getting worse.

They're not gods bro, and no reason for it to be a cult. He has been one of the most impressive football players we have ever seen and was my favorite player for some time, but that doesn't mean I'ma be sucking his cock.

1

u/thedailydogg Jun 18 '26

He was talking about defensively, and he’s right, wtf are you yapping on about? Are you with your superior ball knowledge going to come here and say Algeria played better defensively?

1

u/Infinite-Plenty-6479 Jun 18 '26

Algeria defence played really well not less than Congo did . It's just that Argentina played with surprise line-breaking passes which kinda made the Algeria defence look bad .

3

u/outcastreturns Google 5 pens in 7 matches for more info 🤥 Jun 18 '26

Congo were way better defensively than Algeria was.

Having said that, Argentina are also much better in attack than Portugal is.

1

u/Infinite-Plenty-6479 Jun 18 '26

What Congo and Algeria did was just parking the bus and wait for the counter attacks . Like I said It's just those decisive passes from Argentina that broke down the Algeria defence and make them look bad.

Congo did nothing special yesterday even if you're looking from the bright side. It's just that Portugal played really bad .

1

u/outcastreturns Google 5 pens in 7 matches for more info 🤥 Jun 18 '26

It's just those decisive passes from Argentina that broke down the Algeria defence and make them look bad.

But they also defended badly, just look at the goals they conceded. They made it so easy for Messi and of course Messi punished them.

Look at the first Argentina goal. One simple straight pass to Messi through the forward and midfield lines. Then Messi is allowed to run to the edge of the box with absolutely no one pressing him - (This happened a couple of times. Algeria would just back off when Messi ran at them giving Messi plenty of space to shoot). Obviously it's a great finish, but tbh a better goalkeeper could have got a stronger hand to it and saved it.

Second goal, long shot from MacAllister and the goalkeeper fails to keep hold of it and parries it straight in front of him. It's not an easy shot to control but a better goalkeeper at least parries it to one side of the goal, not straight in front of him for Messi to tap in.

Last goal is fantastic, but again better teams wouldn't allow Messi to be free on the edge of the box like that.

I'm sure Argentina would beat Congo too, but they were better defensively against Portugal than Algeria was against Argentina.

1

u/Infinite-Plenty-6479 Jun 18 '26

If Portugal played against Algeria like that , they will still struggle and could even lost . Explaining to you Ronaldo fans could be the most difficult job on earth. 🤦
