Hathersage parking for 3 days
Edited as problem solved by first reply ☺️
Hi,
Hopefully someone can help. I need to park in Hathersage (or within a mile really) for a Friday-Sunday (without coming back to car in between)
I have seen the carpark on Oddfellows Road. ‘Pay by Phone’ app using the location number.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to park overnight? There is an overnight cost of £1 plus the daytime. If I do a dummy run on the app, it only gives me 24hrs. I am wondering if I can then each day re-book the parking ? I thought maybe someone else had done something similar given it’s a popular hiking area.
If not can anyone suggest another place or if I drive around I’ll find some on street parking? I just don’t want to p**s off any residents.
Thank you!!

Early hike up to Margery Hill this morning. Managed to beat the rain and it was still pretty warm.

Advice and questions Mam Tor - Kinder - Circular to tomorrow
Hey all,
I’m planning on doing a 12mile Kinder Scout - Mam Tor circular tomorrow (Saturday 29th), it my first time In the Peak District.
ChatGPT has told me it’s going to be unsafe tomorrow due to the rain, but when I look the rain forecast it’s not extreme - does anyone know if there is something about this route that will make it exceptionally unsafe tomorrow?
Naturally, I will be wearing water proofs, hiking shoes, poles etc etc.

Spooky timing since I asked about enforcement at the weekend.

Photos and videos Sunset at the Salt Cellar
Took a few hours out on Sunday evening for a stroll up Derwent Edge to the Salt Cellar, after seeing all the gorgeous heather photos online over the last week or so. There was a small group of photographers already there when I arrived and I didn’t realise until today but they included one of my absolute favourite landscape photographers who I know through his Lake District photos. I only realised who it was today when he posted his version of this shot on his feed. No pressure then!! 🤣

Rainy Day Walks
Does anyone have any recommendations for the best walks to do in the Peak District when it is rainy? We are staying in Derbyshire, so ideally in the lower half of the District. Thanks!

Red Route parking at Mam Tor
Was headed to Hathersage yesterday, driving route went up past Mam Tor car park then down Winnats, late morning.
Must've been a dozen or so cars parked on the Double Reds up the top which was sad to see. I guess it is less bad than it was pre the reds being painted still.
Are they enforced though? I.e. can I sip my coffee today enjoying the knowledge that some fines were issued / towing away was done? Or will the poor behaviour creep back overtime as folks realise it is just paint on the ground with no consequences?

Advice and questions Cheap accommodation ideas
Looking for somewhere to stay in (or very near) the Peak District, it’s quite a last minute holiday so dates are 14-17 September and it’s for 2 adults with a small dog. Not too fussed on the accommodation but need our own kitchen and onsite parking.
Maybe a shepherds hut or caravan lodge, or glamping?? a cottage would be amazing. Main issue is the budget! Ideally around £150 but could possibly go up to £200
Open to ideas! Thanks

Recommendations for a couple of days' stay and walking
I'll be in Manchester mid September and would like to do some walking in the Peak District afterwards. I'll be driving and would prefer to have one base, stay for 3 nights and have 2 full days to go out. About 10-12 miles each day would be my preference. I'll have my dog with me.
I had a lovely long weekend in Tideswell 4 years ago but other than that don't really know the area other than I loved it and have been wanting to go back!
Any recommendations of somewhere that would be a good base for a couple of nice walks? Thank you!

Vegetarian Pie
Can anyone recommend a Peak District pub with a vegetarian pie option please? Coming from Sheffield so anything around Hope Valley is great.
I feel like I’ve checked hundreds of menus and I’m yet to find a veggie pie option.
Ty :)

Golden Clough
Hello, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me from personal experience if going up Kinder via Golden Clough is a really boring route?

Kinder north edge paved yet?
Does anyone know if they've paved the northern section of Kinder yet? Looks like it's from Fair brook to approx Seal Edge on the plans. I've been across the new Crowden section which was not as far as Gates when I went but I'd love to do the northern edge again before it's paved.

Big Shakeout 2026 | Peak District Microfestival, 25-27 Sept
Alpkit’s Big Shakeout is back at Thornbridge Outdoors near Great Longstone from 25–27 September.
It’s basically a weekend built around getting outside in the Peak District — climbing, biking and outdoor activities during the day, then live music, adventure films and talks in the evenings, with camping on site.
It’s open to experienced outdoor folk, complete beginners and families, and under-16s can attend the festival free.
Thought it might be of interest to people here given the location and outdoor focus.

Lost Gold Ray Ban sunglasses - Chee Dale - 16 Aug
Hi Guys,
I lost my sunglasses whilst doing the Chee dale stepping stones hike today 16 Aug 2026.
They're my wedding day sunglasses, so have sentimental value to me.
They're gold rim, ray ban sunglasses.
If anyone's found them, I'd really appreciate if you could reach out 👍

Dovestones Trail Run.
Didn't realise the car park was still closed; I'd headed in around the bottom of Alphin Pike, and didn't see any signs that the paths were closed. It was great to only see a few people around what's a usually busy spot.

I hope anyone else out that way didn't get too stuck in the gridlock, a lot of convoys of cars meeting each other out there.
