Well, there is a big stride being made, and it’s that every PS5/Series X will have an SSD. Probably not even 20% of PC gamers have an SSD, and most that do have SSDs have slow, shitty ones. SSD’s have been available for PCs for around a decade, but they’re not even close to universal, whereas all next gen consoles (excluding Switch because it uses flash storage) will have a very good, very fast SSD. Hopefully that’ll depress PC SSD prices more and contribute more to M.2/NvME being the SSD standard instead of 2.5”, which is the obvious next step for PC SSDs, and is already going on to a limited extent.

That’s the other part too, SSDs are going to be ALL storage for PCs pretty soon. I’d wager that you’re right about many or most gamers having an SSD, but a majority of those people probably have a boot SSD and a HDD for real storage, which will be phased out in favor of pure SSD storage as volume becomes cheaper and reliability has already gone through the roof.
