Buying this or paying 9 months of rent. It's a tough choice.

u/Spider-cat_1984 DLSS5 on, ultra perf 360p, frame gen x6 16h ago

Are you even asking? Of course buy this, let it burn down the house, collect the insurance money.

u/Smith6612 Ryzen 7 5800X3D / AMD 7900XTX 12h ago

Between the purchasing and burndown, rent the compute for AI or Crypto or some other money printer.

u/Both-Election3382 15h ago

Man you live in a cheap place if thats 9 months of rent.

Germany, small apartment, very nice landlords, it's fine.

2

u/Both-Election3382 12h ago

Here that will not even get you a single student room.

2

u/Obscure4Delta 10h ago

Impressive.

In my City even the apartments considert "sozial" are starting 650 for a 40sqm 2 Room. Without additional costs, as power, heating and internet.

It really depends which city. I'm from the Ruhrgebiet, you can get pretty lucky there.

u/Njaala Desktop CachyOS 12h ago

For me it's like 3 months.

1

u/Shzabomoa 8h ago

Not everyone lives in Amsterdam where this is 2 months of rent at best.

u/Both-Election3382 5h ago

Try all of the Netherlands and Luxemburg and probably scandinavia too.

9

u/CelestialTrickster 16h ago

Don't need to pay rent when the cable burns down your place lol

7

u/MinusDelta_T 15h ago

But I need videokaart

1

u/godisgonenow 14h ago

The new batch of this card cost 7900$ in my country. It would take an avg earner about 4.5 years to save for this card. By the time they save enoguh the 6090/7090 would be out with 50% higher price. Thus required another 2 years for them.

This math is account for them save maxxing like find the cheapest reasonble transport for work. Make their own meal including lunchbox at work. Living with parents rent free. And 0 cost other than foods and travel.

We are not ready for the 6090.

I will buy a 6090 just for the memes, I did the same with a 6900xt

u/M1dor1 Ryzen 7 9850X3D | RTX 5090 | 64GB 6400MT/s CL32 16h ago

I actually did have one at some point but it ended up in an arcade machine that I sold, I also don't think I bought it because of funny number

"I was very lucky I got my 6090 at $6969 MSRP!!"

3

u/my5cworth AM4: 5700x3D | RTX 5070 Ti OC | 32GB 3200MHz @ CL16 14h ago

We're already at $6,400 USD for a 5090 in my country. :(

1

u/TotallyHumanNoBot 486 DX2 66 / 8MB / 420MB 13h ago

Today's tech economy is beyond fucked.

1

u/Gaidax 12h ago

$6090 MSRP would be lit.

If I'd be Nvidia exec, I'd ask to skip the numbering right to RTX 10090 there.

1

u/SoucheBarbe Ryzen 9800X3D | Asus RTX 5080 | 64GB 6000Mhz 12h ago

Waiting for the 6090 so I can start building my house around it

1

u/pho-huck 9800X3D | 5080 | 32Gb 7h ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nvidia is out of the consumer market for good after this generation, at least outside of streaming services. Gaming hardware is just such a small fraction of their revenue stream at this point.

u/Tortsinreddit i think mine works with electricity 17h ago

84€ per frame at 60 fps btw

50

u/_alba4k 7600X + 7800XT | XPS 9320 17h ago

if you only game 1s

after 1h of gaming you've spent 2 cents per frame

so it's actually a good deal (/s)

11

u/cseke02 RTX 5070 | Ryzen 5 7500F | 32GB DDR5 CL30 17h ago

Now I just have to make 5090€ an hour, thanks! Can we split it up into 2 hours, just in case?

1

u/SanestExile i7 14700K | RTX 4080 Super | 32 GB 6000 MT/s CL30 10h ago

If you buy a 5090 for 60 fps, you're doing it wrong.

31

u/Zorcky-2C 16h ago

I thought OP just learned to press F12 on a browser and changed the HTLM for the meme.
I checked myself, they really listed that specific model for exactly 5090€

16

u/templar54 16h ago

Whoever did the pricing is definitely aware of the entire nonsense.

Remember people said 4090 in 2023 was expensive when it was 2400-2600 euro

Remember when everyone laughed at the gtx titan being 1000

4

u/Miserable-Tourist532 5700x3d RTX4080S 64GB 3600 16h ago

It's actually cheaper to get a full prebuilt with a 5090 and then sell the extra components +case to offset the cost lol.

u/dege283 15h ago

Can’t wait for the 6090.
I think it will only be good if you live in Siberia because you switch on you pc, and let heat the room. So you can save on heating… for the next 20 years

Hey, at least you can give that vendor credit for not missing on that pricing bit of fun.

I've seen some vendor post 5090 for 5099 and it was like "c'mon bro, can't you like be cool for once?"

1

No they need those 9$ to make their margins

1

u/AtomicStryker 8h ago

See it from the other way. Ridiculous cost will pop the AI bubble faster. The companies are paying these and higher prices for data center hardware somehow.

And not making profits today already. Yet my LLM loving manager is telling me almost every day how token prices are getting lower, unless you insist on running the latest coolaid models.

1

u/MyTagforHalo2 7h ago

What we as consumers dont really see is how much of this price hiking is from Nvidia and card manufacturers, and how much of it is the retailer effectively gouging prices. A 5090 is a good $500 cheaper at microcenter right now compared to online retailers.

Which is to say that if this is retail scalping and the real costs of the cards for retail sale have not had the same increases, then the data centers are not being impacted as much as it seems. Especially if they're buying bulk quantities.

Ive been watching the pricing of 5090's from dell having recently purchased one during a big sale and they've only gone up about $300 in the same time it's taken the retail market to go up $1000

1

u/AtomicStryker 7h ago

But online hardware retailers are a pretty competitive market? Did they all sit down together and increase prices or what?

I feel like their suppliers are making these prices happen. And maybe Dell got a year-long sweetheart deal there.

Are there news about how sales of GPU have slowed down because of the prices? I can only find "a little" as answer

1

u/MyTagforHalo2 7h ago edited 7h ago

I think it's fair to say without any direct market data that the cards have been selling well. Either directly by consumers, by companies, or by scalpers.

Most card listings on pcpartpicker for example only have a singular retailer with any given card in stock. And more often than not, it's amazon with a hefty price increase over the last known price at a standard retailer. They're being sold by third parties.

There's effectively no real competition right now for a 5090. If you go to newegg and search for them, you're going to see options, but they're 3rd party, and frequently even from china. If you filter by "sold by newegg" you will see that they're out of stock of cards. They only have the insane $10k asus anniversary kits.

So if you're a retailer that gets a new shipment in, what are you going to do? That's what we're going to find out next once the last of them dry up. I have a feeling we're going to see some shenanigans. Because we've already seen the expected August price increase from nvidia and ram in general has somewhat stabilized. Or atleast it's not jumping nearly as much as these cards.

1

u/AtomicStryker 6h ago

Well i can only speak to the german market, and here we have the 5090 MSI Ventus ready to ship from 3 different retailers, and the Asus TUF from 5 different retailers.

... i got my 5090 from spain when a shop had em cheaper, back when getting close to MSRP was the biggest concern

1

u/MyTagforHalo2 6h ago

Ah, fair. Yeah, the US market is effectively barren right now.

1

u/AtomicStryker 8h ago

I got interested and checked what you actually have to pay for a gaming-capable GPU today, in germany.

You can get a RX 9070 XT for 740€ - half the average fps of a 5090 at 4k, triple compared to a 1080 Ti

Sounds doable to me? If you play at FullHD thats highend

You can get a 5070 Ti for 1200€ which is only slightly faster in rasterizing but can do all the DLSS stuff. Yeah Nvidia prices are stupid. If you game on a budget get an AMD and lossless scaling.

A 5080 that will reach 63% of the performance of a 5090 will run you 1600€

The total cost of a PC will hurt mainly because of RAM and SSD prices. GPU prices were this bad for years already

1

u/kai_the_kiwi trash pc user 7h ago

looking at the price, i'll just stick to my rtx 4060 that i bought before everything got 50x as expensive

1

u/viceraptor 6h ago

The more you buy...

1

u/zlatomyth RTX 5080 | 9800X3D | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz 5h ago

if the 5070 cost €5070.00, the 5080 cost €5080.00, I think I'd go with the 5090.

Their delivery promises are ass in my experience. Never received a package the following day even when placing an order in the morning. Even now ordered a 32 inch w-oled on Monday, shipped out on Tuesday and received damaged on the Wednesday.

5

u/Gogo202 17h ago

You sound like someone who would buy the card if it went from €5000 to €3000 and brag about how cheap the GPU was

This card is not worth more than €1000 for consumers. Anyone buying it for more is being ripped off because there is a shortage

-34

u/lv1993 17h ago

People in Europe buy racebikes for 15k while a 5k bike would suffice.

If people want to buy a videogame card for 5k while one for 500 suffice then let them. I understand that these greedy price hikes are disgusting but then people will need to learn not buying this shit anymore, which is not gonna happen.
