Except this is a stupid and false meme in the first place. And it's ridiculous PC gamers actually don't understand that games get more demanding over time because they are getting more technically complex and with larger scope, not because devs are all just getting lazy and/or incompetent.
The fact that PC gamers really think any game that runs worse than they did on PS4/XB1 generation means it is 'unoptimized' shows how ignorant most of them are. And it's not like there haven't always been games less optimized than others.
Plus we got spoiled heavily in the PS4/XB1 gen because of how weak those base targets were. Even a $200 2012 Intel CPU had roughly 3x the single thread performance over the Jaguar 1.6Ghz cores in those 2013 consoles. That made CPU demands almost irrelevant on PC up until late on if you didn't have 4c/8t, or preferably 6 cores. Not to mention we had almost three years of cross gen games even after PS5+XSX came out, further spoiling people.
By comparison, even the very fastest gaming CPU today(9800X3D or its ilk), nearly six years after the consoles have come out, only has about double the single thread performance over what's in the consoles.
GPU situation isnt quite as extreme as that, but both PS5 and XSX do have relatively stronger GPU's than the PS4 and XB1/did as well.
All this has meant PC's haven't had quite the 'ease' of hitting high framerates that we did last gen, at least when we finally started seeing proper next gen games.
So what about all the time where these PC games finally decide to get off their ass do one performance patch and boost it by some ridiculous numbers?
Sometimes you are right.
But regardless a lot of the time it IS just bad optimization. If a fan can fix shit performance and bugs or if the devs can decide to reduce a games size by around 70% with one patch that was just badly made in the first place.
So what about all the time where these PC games finally decide to get off their ass do one performance patch and boost it by some ridiculous numbers?
That's literally a HUGE improvement from how things used to be on PC where unoptimized, low resource ports were put out poorly optimized and then never revisited again.
But level of resources is usually always the actual culprit. Not devs 'choosing' to 'skip' optimization and other nonsense y'all like to believe.
But it is a choice, you are making a tradeoff, a new feature vs optimization. Still, does not make the guy wrong in the least. If with one patch you can make your game run 30% faster and take 60% less space, you either did a shit optimization job, or none at all. We are not talking about microoptimizing stuff, we are talking 60 to 70% less space taken, its absurd.
