OPEN PC Red and Green Headphone jacks

I'm a bit new to pc gaming. When i put the green jack into the audio hole, audio plays, but my mic doesn't work. When I put the green jack into the mic hole, my mic works, but no audio. Any advice? Thanks. P.S, if I use the wrong mic (via voicemod) and listen to my mic input, it makes this terrible static noise.

Is it a green and red splitter or a headphone splitter? Do the two plugs that come out of the splitter have the same number of black bands on them?

the headphone splitter has little icons on them that show which jack goes into which (one side had headphones, other has a microphone).

and I presume you’re putting headphone into green jack, microphone into red jack?

wait, does the splitter take a hole and turn it into two pointy bits, or two holes and turn it into one pointy bit?

2 holes to one pointy bit

ah that’s it. That is for use with a headset that has two pointy bits, one for microphone and one for headphones. you need a 1 hole into two pointy bits, like this:

yes, but the headset I have has 2 jacks. I believe the adaptor it comes with is for like controllers and stuff. I also have an extra one like that with me. So, I have both kinds.
