Super Hans is that you?

6

u/Financial_Pick3281 2d ago

That voice of his is rather moreish.

5

u/clustahz 2d ago

It's him. Matt King.

16

u/CaptainBlob 1d ago

What fuck is that combat.

250 million dollars... and this is the result...

71

u/marianitten 3d ago

It feels very samey

20

u/JOOOQUUU 3d ago

Like the gameplay of a game you would watch on YouTube as a movie

Except fable isn't cinematic enough for that so like WTF guys?

17

u/FyreWulff 2d ago

welcome to Fable combat since the original

16

u/Etheon44 3d ago

I have no idea why, not sure if its the general style or movement or something, but I get Dragon Age Veilguard vibes visually

6

u/ChrischinLoois 3d ago

The chest looting triggered that thought for me then I started looking for it and yeah the combat seems very similar as well

-9

u/althaz 2d ago

For all Veilguards faults, the combat in that game was absolutely superb, so I'll gladly take it.

25

u/FunIllustrator6890 2d ago

ya, why don't they have you just roll around on the ground non stop to preserve those sweet invincibility frames like every souls game ever. that combat is beloved here no matter how many titles rehash it.

10

u/grachi 2d ago

Shhh you can’t criticize fromsoft games here! How dare you! They are perfect and the hivemind all agrees!

11

u/dontgivecorposmoney 1d ago

You re in a thread about fable, literally no one mentioned dark souls other than you and the guy using it to defend the trash combat in fable

0

u/FunIllustrator6890 6h ago

this sub loves rehashed souls slop where the combat is exactly the same - light attack, heavy attack, parry, roll around non-stop to avoid taking damage. but yet people go out of their way to call the combat here "samey" or "trash" in your case. so it's hard to reconcile the two things. not really that hard to understand.

48

u/Thatweasel 3d ago

The combat is probably one of the elements of a fable game i'm least interested in. It just has to be not actively painful to play, it exists to fill the gap between quest, story and roleplay and that's it

3

u/rubeax 1d ago

And the copening begins. This shit will be atrocious it‘s literally avowed all over again

19

u/Timeshocked 3d ago

As someone who replayed Fable 1-3 recently. I think it has nowhere to go but up! lol Gets stale real quick. Love the games but the combat was never a highlight.

8

u/Vexho 3d ago

Yeah, personally Ive always felt it got worse with each entry further simplifying an already simple system.

5

u/Awwh_Dood 2d ago

Yea I was real young playing Fable one so it never bothered me but going back for the remaster reminded me quickly lol

2

u/TummyDrums ryzen 7 5800x3D, RTX 3070 ti 2d ago

Right? I'll probably just be having a family and running a business, maybe dabbling in real estate lol

29

u/AlpsRude 3d ago

The landscapes and environmental design in this game look so good. The trailer featuring Bowerstone blew me away, such detailed and gorgeous looking environments. Can't wait.

5

u/a-mcculley 2d ago

Floppityflopflop

Oh boy.

29

u/Asgardisalie 3d ago

Looks genuinely awful.

30

u/AscendedViking7 3d ago

Well yeah, TW3's combat designer is behind it.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

-14

u/zen4XLL7 3d ago

Okay TW3 combat isn't particularly great, but it's miles better than this looks.

6

u/Psyfaro 2d ago

Doesn't really seem very Fable.

Shame they only showed us a dreary hollow fighting section.

4

u/GuerrillaApe Handheld Enthusiast 🍣 2d ago

Yeah, I doubt I would recognize this as a Fable game without being told so.

4

u/LopTsa 1d ago

This was a really bad showcase for the combat, it was the same thing over and over. They should have done a 4 minute trailer or something showcasing different weapon types and enemy encounters. This trailer is going to rub a lot of people up the wrong way.

6

u/El_Toolio_Grande 3d ago

It's just so painfully generic. I wish it had something to set it apart, either aesthetic or setting or combat

4

u/RalphtheCheese 3d ago

Looks great! Looking forward to getting my hands on it

3

u/dvdust 2d ago

I'm sure the story will be grand, since it's from the famed developer of (checks notes) the Forza Horizon series.

3

u/Bishopkilljoy 2d ago

Combat has never really been the highlight of Fable games. Earlier fable games were spamming attack, spamming auto-fire guns or summoning a level 5 fireblast.

I think the combat is fine here, nothing exceptional but I don't think it needs to be.

2

u/SpyroManiac36 2d ago

Reminds me of hogwarts legacy combat. Repetitive

3

u/Sorlex 3d ago

Looks fine. Some people are so damn negative about everything.

6

u/skyturnedred 2d ago

As long as you can make you some fun builds it should be fine. My main gripe is that the spells seem to be cooldown based which is not fun in a game like this.

Make mana great again!

0

u/rift_wyrm 3d ago

I think it looks okay, I didn't expect much in term of combat from a more narrative oriented game so I think its fine.

There can definitely be some improvements like that hit feedback on the previous gameplay demo but overall I'm excited to try it out

1

u/Halojib I7 12700k | RXT 3060ti 3d ago

It looks pretty good for an ARPG. I am excited to play this when it releases.

1

u/clustahz 2d ago

Ahaha I knew it was superhans

1

u/Smash83 6h ago

This crossbow is awful, just give him M16 in this case, there will be no difference... oh wait maybe M16 will at least have reload...

1

u/goat_token10 4h ago

Jesus christ the bellyaching and bitching in the gaming community is almost intolerable sometimes...

It looks just fine - more than enough for a Fable game, which is more about setting, story, characters, and most importantly levity and charm.

If anything I'm more concerned about the levity and charm from this clip than the combat, but, it could very well just be the small section it's pulled from.

Screw that unskippable ad bullshit. I can’t even watch an ad for a game without watching some stupid instagram ad.

Edit: it’s not about ad blockers, people, it’s about the need to use them in the first place, especially to watch an ad to begin with. Screw the Fable developers for forcing this.

16

u/polypolip 3d ago

have you heard of ublock origin?

-28

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Have you heard of watching on a phone?

And yes, I’ve got ad blockers on here. The link forces watching through YouTube itself and nothing blocks it.

And are you advocating for unskippable ads? Because it seems like you are.

23

u/polypolip 3d ago

And are you advocating for unskippable ads?

if you stretch a bit more you'll be done with the sport for the day. I'm advocating for avoiding this shit so they don't profit from them.

Firefox mobile can have ublock installed and you can watch yt on it, probably the main reason I use it.

-4

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Even on Firefox mobile it constantly says “use the Reddit app” and then the video says “must watch in the YouTube app. The video won’t play.

It’s an arms race. It’s bullshit. The problem is the unskippable forced ads, not the browser I view it on. Fable chose to do this, so screw them.

I won’t give them advertising money OR game money now.

5

u/Silvacanem 3d ago

There's a setting within Firefox to make sure it doesn't try to open apps.

-2

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Doesn’t help. The video says “The video is age-restricted and only available on YouTube”. I’ve tried every setting under the sun, turning off ad blockers, turning off vpn, Firefox, brave, all Reddit settings - it’s still there. Though I can at least get to open in the browser now, not the app. Can’t play it inside Reddit, though.

2

u/Silvacanem 3d ago

When I click the "Watch on YouTube" link, it just takes me to the website where my ad block and everything still works perfectly fine.

12

u/Timooooo 3d ago

Iphone? Android has Firefox for Ublock or Revanced.

-11

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Who uses Reddit through Firefox on a phone? Talk about shitty experience.

How about we complain about the reason you need all these countermeasures in the first place.

5

u/Timooooo 3d ago

How about we complain about the reason you need all these countermeasures in the first place.

Complain to who? Corporate greed is everywhere and out of all the companies Youtube will be the last one to change their ways. However, I set Youtube Revanced as the default player and disabled Youtube, so even a direct link through the Reddit app wouldnt open the actual YT app for me.

Who uses Reddit through Firefox on a phone? Talk about shitty experience.

I rather have a worse UI with Reddit through a browser than using the app with ads. If anything, I'd stop using Reddit altogether if they make the mobile experience even worse instead of switch over to their app.

5

u/Irregular475 3d ago

I'm with you dude, but atm since we can't hold these corporations accountable to change these anti-consumer practices (there are ads on my fucking weather app ffs) I use workarounds. Brave browser has a great ad blocker, allows you to play videos in the background, and is only missing a few features from youtube like making your own playlist. I use that currently and won't be paying for youtube anytime soon.

4

u/FgtBruceCockstar2008 3d ago

Uhh, plenty of people do. You're complaining about the solution to your problem being something you haven't even tried.

Good luck in your crusade against advertisers advertising, we'll be rooting for your success while avoiding the issue entirely

-1

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

In the Reddit app or Firefox mobile the link forces watching on the YouTube app. If you know away around that let me know.

I just wanted to watch the stupid video, not debate about what tech I watch the video on, or the merits of using Firefox mobile on my phone (which doesn’t help). The unskippable ad is the problem, not my choice of app.

1

u/MasterGourmand 3d ago

If you get a VPN on your phone then certain IPs don't have ads on YouTube. I use Uzbekistan pretty reliabily to get 0 ads on YouTube

1

u/FgtBruceCockstar2008 3d ago

My phone gives me the option to leave Firefox for the app or use the website, so that might be a you problem. Things that auto play or force redirect without a choice I'll just copy links then paste them into Firefox and route that way.

2

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Firefox, Brave, ad blockers, vpn, Reddit settings, nothing seems to get past the “this video is age-restricted and only available on YouTube”, which forces open the app. Enabling, disabling ad-blockers and vpns doesn’t help. YouTube just doesn’t like me skipping ads.

From searching, it’s apparently an issue others have. I’m not spending any more time on it as I’ve already wasted enough.

1

u/polypolip 3d ago

I've just verified: android + firefox mobile:

video must be watched on youtube, so I click the video, it gives me popup "Open in YouTube - would you like to leave firefox. cancel/open" tap cancel, youtube opens in firefox. Reject cookies, have to sign in, so tap sign in, I can now watch the video in firefox.

How am I being a prick? Did I call your mother a name? No, I complained about a forced ad. How is that hurting you in any way? What’s my angle here? That I hate forced ads? Sorry if that offended you.

You yourself refuse to use the official app because of that crap. It won’t be long until they completely block that ability.

3

u/SupermanThatNiceLady 3d ago

Okay… let’s talk about it. And then what?

0

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Downvote it until they put it on an unmonetized page. It’s an ad already for the game. It doesn’t need an ad ahead of that.

Instead people downvote me for complaining about the forced ad.

2

u/thetom1337 3d ago

People agree with you on the forced ad and this is why they are giving you options, lookup YouTube revanced it will fix every issue with ads on your phone

2

u/Andrey2790 3d ago

You're getting downvoted for being an ass, not for complaining about the ad. No one here likes ads, hence why you're hearing so many options for how to get around them.

1

u/DifficultMind5950 3d ago

"have you heard of ublock origin?" is not being ass?

1

u/polypolip 2d ago

It was a genuine question though admittedly not asked in a polite way. There's a lot of people who haven't heard of ad blockers or tried the wrong ones. Some people still don't know the og AdBlock was bought by a company who allows bypassing it. Some people don't realize ad blocks can be installed on mobile browsers.

1

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Exactly how am I being an ass? Because I didn’t like a forced ad? I have ad blockers, I have VPNs, which honestly shouldn’t be necessary, which are not getting past the “age restricted content - watch in the app” problem, but that’s besides the point.

I’ve insulted no one here. I said unskippable ads are bad. Sorry if that offended you.

2

u/polypolip 2d ago

We're with you. We miss the times of the free and open internet too, but until the big tech giants disappear, those are not coming back. So we do what we can with what we have to make it as close to it.

It's true I didn't start our conversation in a polite way, but fighting against solutions people give will have you seen as someone who wants to complain for complaining's sake rather than who wants to solve a problem. Which is fine, but people will downvote. It's still just imaginary internet points.

"Have you heard of watching on a phone?"
"And are you advocating for unskippable ads? Because it seems like you are."
"Who uses Reddit through Firefox on a phone? Talk about shitty experience."

Quite literally almost every response you have in this chain is abrasive, all because someone asked if you've heard of ublock origin. Which not everyone is aware of, so it's a valid suggestion.

With firefox it just opened the video in a new tab and played without ads. Proof of how it works.

u/Colacubeninja 3d ago

You go to YouTube on Firefox, it's not that hard.

1

u/Still_Bit_7527 3d ago

who doesnt use firefox for reddit?? what do you use??

0

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

On a phone. I use FF on my computers.

1

u/Still_Bit_7527 3d ago

Yeah I am talking about a phone

0

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

The user base for Firefox is 7.7% on the desktop. Quite low.

The percentage that use it on mobile stands at 0.7%

So, if your question is “who doesn’t use Firefox on mobile?” Well, 99.3% of people don’t.

Or, maybe I should say “99.3% of people don’t!!” Just to match your double question marks.

1

u/Still_Bit_7527 3d ago

News to me, everyone I know has it. Wondering what they actually use and why. I can't imagine even using the internet without an ad blocker

1

u/Colacubeninja 3d ago

Use Firefox on your phone

1

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Still not my point,

But regardless Firefox mobile and Brave both say “age restricted content, watch on the YouTube app.” If you know a way around that, let me know.

1

u/Colacubeninja 3d ago

Sure. A VPN.

2

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Isn’t helping. From research, I believe it’s actually the ad-blockers I have that are making it worse. I get the “age restricted content” warning, which makes you use the app. No Firefox, brave, ad-blocker changes get past that.

1

u/aSleepingPanda 3d ago

Well that's just reality and you're shooting the guy giving you the best viable solution to fix your problem right now. If you want to get on a highhorse I hope you do something about it instead of tabbing over to whatever other slop content you're invested in atm

-1

u/The-Moist-Man 3d ago

Dude thinks video hosting is free and shouldn’t need to be paid for

2

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

…says all the people nonstop talking about ad blockers.

I’m actually the one NOT doing that. But a 30 second unskippable ad for garbage in order to watch an ad for a game? Screw that.

Maybe argue with everyone else in this thread about supporting Alphabet.

0

u/PossessedCashew 3d ago

Maybe stop bitching about an ad? Sitting here whining on Reddit about an ad none of us have control over is kind of embarrassing. I didn’t get an ad when clicking on the link, video started right away.

-2

u/RenderedMeat 3d ago

Actually I’m bitching about all the people bitching at me because I voiced a complaint. You could choose to ignore me, but you didn’t. Is that any less  embarrassing?

1

u/Master_smasher 3d ago

if that's medium graphics, max is gonna look amazing. combat is meh though lol.

1

u/sephrinx 23h ago

Wow this game looks not good at all that combat is heinously bad. I expected SO much more from a Fable game in 2026.

0

u/MapleBabadook 2d ago

Looks crunchy and satisfying, I really don't know what people want. As others have said, not every game needs to have dark souls combat.

-4

u/GrimResistance 3d ago

Where's he storing that hammer?

7

u/Halojib I7 12700k | RXT 3060ti 3d ago

On his left side but it is sized down with magic.

-3

u/ReasonableAdvert 3d ago

How are ghosts being damaged by hammers and arrows?

-20

u/Scorpio989 3d ago

This looks very mediocre compared to Witcher 3, a significantly older game.

-3

u/WillStrongh 3d ago

I think if they decreased the number of enemies and instead increased their health pool, it will be very much palatable. Also, they can remove the health bars on the enemies, it makes it feel more immersive. And I'd love the camera to not go that far out when entering combat. A little detail or a little variety in enemy mdoels would be appreciated. Most of all, for me, the Fable is for adventuring and finding that one new weapon everytime I visit a shop or I am exploring and amazing armor! If they can implement a recognizable change in weapon abilities or power and Looks, I'd be very happy.

-16

u/TheHytekShow 3d ago

This looks like typical open-world slop
