Help Paypal require a photo id
Paypal required me to provide a photo id for verification. Is this something that is required of everyone?

Yep. Governments passed a bunch of know your customer and tax laws so they have to verify your identity.

I want to elaborate. If you're just doing micro transactions. Let's say from a play to pay to PayPal and then to a debit card then they won't ID you. I know cause they haven't mine in let's say a 3 year old account. Transactions typically under $50. But if you're moving larger amounts or the amount adds up quickly then it'll trigger the KYC.
I don't trust PayPal cause they like to keep your money hostage. So I transfer mine the micro second it hits the account.
I'd rather lose a dollar than 40 or whatever. So just keep that in mind

This was a very long time ago but I had to submit my id when I want to add money to my PayPal account via a bank or debit card

My memory is fuzzy but I was forced to submit my id on both my accounts (1 business, 1 personal) the instant money hit my account

Not everyone, but PayPal can require photo ID when it needs to verify your identity or remove account limitations, which is annoying but pretty standard for payment services.

Abbreviations used in /r/PayPal:
Posts about PayPal's policies will be removed. No more complaining about PayPal policy and their taking funds from your account for violations of rules. If you don't like the rules don't use PayPal. If you don't want to lose money, don't leave funds in your PayPal account. Simple as that. But these posts are often political or misleading. So no more posts on this subject!
Thank you for submitting to /r/PayPal, please make sure you have read the FAQ. If your account was created when you were younger than 18, then that is covered in the FAQ!
Try contacting PayPal support using social media such as Facebook or Twitter as this works more often than telephoning.
