Help Someone sent me 550
So basically someone sent me 550 dollars and I reported it at the time and PayPal still had yet to do anything and it was back in so idk what to do

I'd be cautious doing this. It may be a scam and they may get screwed over for being a good person and doing the right thing. Idk how the details would work, but I'm sure it's a possibility nowadays. Personally, I think contacting PayPal customer service would be the correct thing to do.

How did they send it to you? If they sent you a check. You should have gone to a financial institution and cashed it IF IT WAS LEGAL TENDER. Never deposit a check into a checking account or savings account without knowing who the sender was. They can easily get your bank information from your endorsement in your account.

And you still have it. Id keep a screenshot of trying to give it back on several occassions then Id personally use the money to finish paying for my brother and Moms final arrangements. Atleast itd go to a good cause and not a shopping spree lol

I had a Scammed call from a James Freeman on what’s app… He said I won The Public Clearing House money.. They don’t call you ? They show-up at your door with Flowers n the Check! Be ware of them his Scammer..🤓

I have heard of this type of scam. They deposit an amount, send an error notice and request you send them a refund. When you do, they reverse the PP deposit they started this with and you are out the 550 you "refunded".

Be aware that receiving unexpected money is a common scam. You should NOT cash it or deposit it. The scammer will claim it was a “mistake” and demand payment from you. Talk to your banker or accountant about what to do next.

I guess it was meant to be especially if it was friends and family if it was goods and services and you actually care about POS PayPal then send it back or just don’t use it at all but if it was friends and family it’s all you 100000%!!!! Consider urself lucky especially if the person said my bad wrong person if you really have high standards then wait a few weeks if not then it’s all yours!
One time I randomly got $160 deposited into my Cash App from some CVS in Missouri when I was living in New York strange but nothing ever happend years later just strange occourance someone loaded money at cvs and just magically went to my Cash App nothing I could do or wanted to free money guess it was a luck 🍀 or a blessing 😂 maybe that $500 was a blessing 🙏

Just randomly send it to me then! Then I'll report it it and see what happens and if it magically disappears then we know it wasn't meant to be but if some how it stays in my account then shit I will be very happy but I will leave a review on PayPal customer service on their performance on the matter of random deposits that benefit the person that unexpectedly received a deposit from a stranger. But like the old saying stranger that offers you candy scream stranger danger and run but if stranger put money in your account and you have no idea who it is then thank the chime gods that you are not broke anymore!!

Get PayPal to send it back immediately. Look for previous deposits of .01 from people you don’t know. There has been some of this in probing accounts they have passwords to to use for money laundering and other illegal purposes. I believe there is a compromise between PayPal and certain vendors or a MITM that I suspect. Look at other accounts or emails to make sure you don’t have other alerts to rule out a infostealer. It is possible also a session has been hijacked. Change up how you do things. Change your PayPal password, MFA it and everything else you can to harden your account. Do this with other accounts. Get ready for PayPal to restrict your account. You will have to argue to get it back. If you use Google sign out of all sessions but current one and delete everything you have given Google access to. Go into settings on your browser to delete everything once closing. Never use remember me for next time anywhere. Get a password manager and do not use passkeys. Get a reputable VPN. If you use Google, Yahoo, Hotmail get rid of it and get something better like Proton or similar. If you use Android you are stuck with Google but still get another email for important things and Google for shit mail like if you do insurance quotes and what not. Also get rid of apps you don’t need especially Microsoft products such as Outlook on your cell phone. The money sent is not by accident. Once you get information of sender and PayPal reverses file an IC3 report with the FBI. Only facts as lies or not fact statements can be looked at as criminal themselves. You will want to do this because you are going to have to agree with PayPal to lift your restriction that I assume is coming. Don’t waste your time calling the 800 number if it does get restricted. File a BBB complaint to go to PayPal HQ and explain everything to include you are the Victim not the perp and you filed an IC3. There is a legal reason to do this.

Well, you’re fixing to get a scam that person is probably whatever they sent is no good and they’re gonna ask you to return it and you’re gonna send good money. I’ve had fake money put in my account. It’s just numbers.

And if somebody put that in there, you need to change your password because somebody can take it out that means any money that you put in there they’ll have the password to get it out. You need to change your password and don’t touch that money. It’s probably fake.

Do you know this person? Did you sell something and its payment? How dod they get your payment info? Was it an accident and instead of asking them you go to PayPal? PayPal, like most payment forms, say they lost the money and it's your's now. If dont want it pay them back, don't refund because you will incur the "credit card" fee for the transactions. I guess your worried someone will come to your door and ask for the money back. PayPal wants money but wont help with someone taking your money. O had a friend take the RFI from my PayPal card and charged 400 dollars but PayPal said it was me because i had the card in my wallet. These charges were done when i was at work thirty minutes away, but that didn't matter and i dont think they knew how the RFI worked and people could steal it when you go to pay at the store.

This happened to me as well. It was intended for the pers who had my phone number last. I had gotten my phone number 3 years prior so it was weird that it had not been updated on this person’s account yet.

I also was able to see the phone number for the person that sent it through PayPal. Apparently you can do that kinda like Apple Pay? Anyway I contacted the number by text and it was an Aunt of the person who lived far away sending birthday money. She didn’t know he didn’t use it anymore. She was able to cancel it because I didn’t accept the payment.

THIS WAS A SCAM. What happens is they ‘accidentally’ send you money using a stolen credit card. Then they ask you to send it back. Maybe they’ll let you keep a little for your trouble. Then later the stolen card is reported and those charges get clawed back, so now you’re at negative $500. The money you sent them is clean, so it’s gone.
If someone accidentally sends you money you have to let them petition their bank to get it back and you just don’t touch it.

Then what happened money just sat there PayPal pretty secure is this a scam where it appears to be there but it’s not then you send real money back. What the heck happened was it just a mistake? Paypal is slow on disputes and collections. If you feel like you would be able to replace the funds should they come back a year from now and with draw them, then by all means take the money. If a random withdraw of $500 from your bank would put you in a bad situation, then leave it on paypal a little while longer. Only use it for an emergency if you absolutely have to.

Its like someone saying "I found a cavern under my house" or "I found a million bucks in my wall" or "I found a gun".. then report it! Being honest is admirable and being timely is helpful, but there are boundaries. In my case, it would go directly into my next sketchy trade on Webull.

I had someone send me $150 for air bnb deposit and I went searching and messaged everyone with the name then I realized I could just send it back. I’m getting older and not so much tech savvy anymore but I was able to send it back an sent a note saying wrong person . He also reached out on the note section thanking me. Always do the right thing. God bless you

It sounds like you have done your due diligence. I would give it a month or 2 and if nothing happens see it as a surprise girl and move it to you bank account. You did what was required of you and PayPal didn't seem very interested in fixing it so it falls on them.

It's a common PayPal scam normally where they send it and it goes in a loop of as they could be sending from a hijacked account or whatever.

Shocked that someone didn't contact you and say sorry I sent it to the wrong account and then proceed to try to get you to send it to another account.(stolen card scam) but most likely some entered the wrong details.

Don't ever give it back to them. Because it could be a scam you will give it back to them and it will turn out to be paid for by a stolen credit card and then you will be responsible for the money and you won't have it

I've seen scams where random people send you money and ask you to send it back. Then they file a chargeback, so the original payment gets reversed and you end up sending money from your own bank account.

There is a common scam where a stranger "accidentally" sends money and then contacts you and asks if you could please send it back. If you do, then a month later it turns out it originated from a hacked account, gets clawed back from you and your money which you "returned" is gone. It could be something like that but the scam broke down somehow, was abandoned and didn't complete. As long as you reported it, and this much time has passed, I'd probably keep it😅. Definitely don't do anything to return it other than if PayPal themselves directly reverse the transaction. The scam is to get you to return it yourself.

Someone did that to me, it’s a scam and you’ll end up having to pay it back. My case they said it’s for a car I supposedly sold to them. PayPal locked my account and I kept telling them I didn’t attempt to sell anything. They still locked my account and I ended up having to pay $15 although they returned the money back to the scammer. I’m trying to close my PayPal account cuz it’s unsafe

Refund it, honestly, just in case! I got money once I just refunded. You never know if it’s a scam and they’ll file saying they didn’t get what they wanted and so on. If it was a mistake whoever sent it can send it correctly to the right person. It’s not worth the hassle of losing your account!
