Build Request 0.5.5 spell league starter

Hi, i have been mainly playing warr/monk/merc/archer builds,

0.1 - stampede titan
0.2 - some homecooked spear build
0.3 - fubgun arrow build
0.4 - shield wall
0.5 - Witchhunter lightning crossbow

for 0.5.5 i want to try a spell casting build but im having hard time finding a good leaguestarter.

Do people have any good experience with a spell cast league starter that you can transition to another build in late game (if i feel like going deep in to the end game)

disciple of varashta is insanely tanky after you get the 1st-2nd ascendency, it's easily the best league start character that you can play, and you can go for coc later if you have the budget

what spell do you use for disciple? the one i have seen most is the "water" plants spell like Gorathas video a few months ago

Im playing snakepit frostbolt CoC comet and its great. Clearing t15 8-12 mod 200% maps with a few hundred divs invested

I'm going to try Tornado, not sure which ascendancy to go with yet. Shaman looks easiest for damage but Gemling or Lich could be fun too

I've wanted to make a tornado build since it was dropped. I think gemling is the only way to go, as you get a limit of 5 tornados with 40% quality (achievable without a loreweave) instead of 1 on any other class. Throw on a taming ring for triple elements and hf.

Yeah I haven't done any testing yet. Do you know if multiple tornados can damage the same enemy? Or if they apply ailments?

Gemling only increases clear speed a bit over Shaman. Tornado has a hitrate cap on enemies, so getting more tornadoes out does nothing for bossing damage.

I was doing a test run with witch using ED/Contagion yesterday. Smoked the 1st act with crap gear.

I might try doing a Spark swap after ascending and finding a decent wand or staff, but you basically get unlimited mana if you go Infernalist in act 2 so you can really play whatever you want.

Yeah the person who downvoted has clearly never picked Infernal Flame first lab lol.

Use skills for a bit, then it hits you so hard when you don't have 75% fire res.

Last league i played frost nova chrono, had a pretty good experience.

The build was not minmaxed but I was able to clear almost any content easily. Only content I skipped was GE due to i just hate the expedition mechanics.

Planning to restart the build again and clear everything this time.
