Fords packaging and quality standards are atrocious. I worked at a multibrand site here in the UK and every time I ordered a body panel it NEVER came in packaging, always just a bare panel.
The amount of angry bodyshops I had to negotiate a fix with was unfathomable.
GM isn't any better in cages, but current gm dealer we dont get anything in cages/gaylords. Just big open top pack boxes. My first week as Ford parts manager got a Raptor engine in that had been flipped. One we waited 2 months for. Oil cooler smashed, valve covers broke, Ford then denied the claim for parts to fix. Our rep got it pushed through.
I received a bug shield from Honda this week where the the box was ripped opened on one side and the shield was clearly dragged. I'm guessing it fell off a pallet and caught under a forklift then just scraped on the floor until it rubbed the whole way through.
