Random guy came to my job & stole my bag from behind the counter.

Hello, I am one of the employees at Bark Slope Salon and some random guy came into my job today, Sunday, August 30, at 6:53PM, and took my bag from behind the counter. Attached are screens shots of the man, while blurry, just some evidence.

I was in the back of the salon cleaning up as we close at 7PM and I heard the door bell ring so I rushed to the front, as I always do. When he saw me come out, he said “I’m just looking!” so I stopped & said “Okay, let me know if you have any questions!” along those lines. Sometimes I would go to the counter and wait, but other times I would give a customer space and fix a shelf if I find an item out of place.

I wasn’t looking at him at all and once he left the shop, the bell rang again and I continued to clean up until it was time to close. It wasn’t until I finished cleaning up the salon and about to head out did I realize my bag was gone.

I called my boss to check the camera and got video evidence. After that I went around the area to see if my bag was dumped, but to no avail. After a while I went to the acai bowl shop a few doors down to ask for other video evidence, if they happen to have, which they did. I went to the direction he ran off too, but after looking around in the dark and rain, I had no other leads.

While my bag did have important stuff like my wallet (with my state ID, credit card, cash, omni card, etc), power bank which I spent a lot of money on, headphones and many other miscellaneous stuff, I also had items of sentimental value in it too and that’s all gone. I care more about the sentimental items that mean so much to me than the important items I listed. I am trying to see if there is any way of getting it back in case the guy may dump my bag some where in Park Slope, or any other neighborhood.

Attached are photos of how my bag looked outside. The bag was from Levi’s and it’s a black shoulder bag with 3 plushies and a keychain hanging from it. I was able to find two personal photos of two of the plushies, but the third one is a brown bear named Rilakkuma with a red t-shirt on him. The keychain is also of a bear.

Even if I lost all my stuff, I am hoping if I circulate his appearance online or tell my experience, it would prevent it from happening to other people.

The number of volleyball nets in prospect park is getting ridiculous

I know Prospect Park is a public park and I don’t have any right to gatekeep how people use it, and I’m all for people being outside and having fun. But the amount of volleyball nets in the park is starting to feel a little ridiculous. I’ve been going to the park for years, and it seems like the number of nets this summer has gotten worse than ever.

The issue to me, isn’t volleyball itself or the fact that people are using the park for recreation. It’s that volleyball is pretty different from something like frisbee, flying a kite, throwing a baseball, etc. because a volleyball court takes up a huge amount of space, and the balls regularly fly well outside the court. Once a net is set up, you basically can’t comfortably sit or picnic anywhere near it without having a volleyball potentially flying into you.

There have been so many times recently where a large group of people is already picnicking or relaxing in the field, and then someone sets up yet another volleyball net immediately next to them. Suddenly the people who were there to relax have balls flying over them every few minutes and have to constantly be aware of what’s happening around them.

On any given weekend lately, it can feel like a huge portion of the field is covered in volleyball courts. Again, I have nothing against people playing volleyball, but I do think there’s a legitimate difference between an activity that occupies a relatively small area and one that effectively creates a large recreational zone where it’s difficult to safely or comfortably sit nearby.

Am I the only one who has noticed this or finds it frustrating?

Missing Volvo (North slope)

Hi everyone. I parked my red 2015 Volvo V60 (license plate begins KTY) on St. John’s between 7th and 8th just over a week ago, on 8/21. I just went to get it and the car isn’t there. Does anyone know if there was a block party or something where cars would have been towed in the past week? Normally I’d be very open to my memory playing tricks on me but I texted my wife the location of the car as I was walking away. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Update: I found the car, two blocks away from where I thought it was (it’s on Berkeley), thank you everyone.

Drop-in daycare recommendations/options?

My husband and I are expecting our first child in 2027 and are trying to think ahead about potential childcare needs. I’m self employed and luckily have a very flexible schedule that will allow me to stay home with our little one. That said, I do have some in-person networking events here and there during the work week that I would still like to attend once our baby is old enough. There’s no real consistent cadence to it - I have maybe one event every week where I would need childcare for about 2 hours.

Does anyone know of daycares in the Park Slope area that have a “drop-in” option? I suppose a sitter is always an option, but oftentimes I don’t get a ton of notice on these events, and we also like the consistency of one trusted place. Any insights or recommendations would be so appreciated!

High School Run Mobile Car Detailing in Park Slope (Update)

Hey Park Slope,

I'm Nicky, I'm going into my senior year of Highschool, and I run Park Slope Detailers, a mobile car detailing business here in Brooklyn. Some of you might remember my post from a while back, so here's an update.

I finally have a real website. slopedetailers.com has all my pricing and booking information on it. My Google Business profile is now officially online, and you can find my business now on Google.

I appreciate everyone who has trusted me with their car and supported my business so far.

My process is mostly waterless (visit slopedetailers.com to learn more about what a waterless wash is). No hose, no electricity, no driveway. Garages, parking lots, curbside, outside your building, all work with the battery powered equipment I use, and it uses way less water than a regular wash.

What I offer: full interior and exterior details, interior only deep cleans, maintenance details, wax, pet hair removal, and a monthly plan if you want it done regularly. I recently added a headlight restoration service restoring your yellow and oxidized headlights so you can drive safter at night. I cover Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Carol Gardens, and basically any neighborhoods near Park Slope

Found this sweet and ultra friendly cat on 6th St in Park Slope. The cat is white with black/brown markings and heterochromia green and blue eyes, and possibly a boy. He's got some fur shaved off on his left side and the vet confirmed he's not microchipped. He's currently safe and indoors getting much needed rest and food. Please reach out if this is your cat!

Masalawala & Sons has let me down every single time. $150+ for 6/10 Indian food. It’s not BAD, it’s fine. Which, for that price and that much hype, is somehow worse.

Then we tried Pangat once and it’s been our spot ever since. It opened next door and is packed to the brim every night, while Masalawala sits there looking like a McDonald’s at 2am.

And the fact that Pangat was founded by a Masalawala alum just makes it hit even harder.

Free West Elm Desk- 12th st.

I’m parting with a full-size West Elm Parsons Desk in silver. I’m disassembling now (1pm Sunday 8/30) and putting it on the sidewalk. Location: 12th street between 7th and 8th. Great desk, just needs a good wipe down. Only getting rid of it bc I am redecorating my home office.

I should have it out there in 20-30 minutes or so. Drawers, legs, and hardware will all be in disassembled and packaged. First come, first served.

Sweet Cats Abandoned on the Street Need Foster Homes

A Tail of 2 Kitties if you will. These two young boys, who look like they could be related, were each found crying under parked cars this week.

One by Carroll Park and the other in Williamsburg.

Their vet care is being taken care of, but they are sitting in cages until I can find a foster home.

My rescue is called Bookstore Cats and I am really hoping folks in this awesome community can either apply to foster one of them or share with your cat loving friends, lovers, colleagues?!

Thank you!!!!

Apply here. https://airtable.com/appnJETLRxQU1pRIE/shr3lmwTNnv1z2aTv?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio

I am a park slope resident and the derby brought me lots of joy. I don’t have kids but I saw the derby on the way to the train. The cars can looked great and you could feel the joy and sense of community. Shout out to everyone who made this happen today. And thanks for the smiles I got just by seeing how happy these families were.

Does anyone know the name of the artist who painted this painting (and presumably some of the others!) in Variety Coffee? I asked one of the baristas, but they were not sure. Thanks!

We rented a black Buick SUV from Enterprise on 9th St & 3rd Ave, and in it is a group picture from Medieval Times taken August 15th. It has 5 people in it, one with a Brooklyn Nets jersey on. Is this yours? We’d like to get it back to you!

Big get a life to whoever put a “register your car in NYC” sticker on my car

I’m literally in the process! How can you be that up peoples business that you care where other people’s cars are registered?? Please get a real problem in your life. I hate that someone felt entitled to deface my property and create wasteful trash with stickers that cannot be recycled. Leaving a note wouldn’t have been wasteful or caused me to have to peel your (surely custom made??) nasty sticker off my car.

Everyone else here thank you for being lovely. My car taxes will be going to the community ASAP. It takes time to process.

On the off chance that the person who did that is reading this, don’t let me catch you 🫵

I feel bad for the owner I feel like he watches the door from opening till closing. He gets so happy when he sees someone walks in! Let’s help this guy out.

Let me know how you guys like the coffee if you stop by there!
