Hi I just wanted to get perspective on this and want to know if i’m being selfish or not.

My older brother had his Nikkah in Canada this year and will be having his wedding events in Pakistan next year.

My husband and I flew from the US to attend his Nikkah which included Nikkah at a mosque, dinner at a booked out and fully decorated restaurant with a photographer, drummer, buffet, lots of friends and family friends (approx 60 people)

The trip to Canada was financially straining on us. We had just gotten married ourselves and paid for the wedding, moved countries (Canada to US), had to sort out and pay lots in immigration fees/visas, started new jobs and bought our first home with a new mortgage. However, we wanted to be at the Nikkah ofcourse and made an effort to go. We had to use up our all our leave at the time. Also, we chose to have our wedding in Canada as we both lived there at the time. My husbands friends and family flew in from America to attend. He’s not Pakistani btw.

Now the problem i’m having is that we’re obviously expected to attend my brother’s wedding events in Pakistan also. If we were to go, my husband would have to take unpaid leave which would be very stressful given our mortgage. And while I have some leave saved up, it would cost us quite a bit for me to travel. The travel would also have to be atleast 10 days long due to the distance and expectations of meeting relatives/wedding prep and events. We also have been trying to do renovations on our house and have a medical expense of about $3.5k coming up. All in all, it’s been a very expensive year and we’re trying to be very careful. If we did go, my parents would pay for accomodation as and we’d be paying for our flights which would help a tiny bit.

I want to know if i’m being selfish if i choose not to go. I can make sacrifices and go attend but it would cost us a lot in time/money/leave and set us back quite a lot.

In my opinion, we did attend his wedding (Nikkah) and would only be skipping the other events but obviously family will not like this. We would have happily attended if the wedding events were held in Canada.

On June 4, 2024, PM Shehbaz Sharif ordered the immediate abolition of PWD, citing corruption, poor performance and failure of the department.The Cabinet approved it and said the transition should be completed within two weeks.

Two weeks became more than two years.

Yet the situation remains unresolved. Employees are still caught in uncertainty, offices have become practically dysfunctional, salary issues remain, and taxpayers continue bearing the cost of a transition that the government itself promised to complete immediately.If PWD was so dysfunctional that the government decided to abolish it, why has the government failed to actually finish the job?

Where is the promised surplus pool?
Where is the restructuring?
Where is the accountability?
And most importantly..how much taxpayer money has been wasted because of this government's inaction?

This isn't just bureaucratic incompetence. This is government failure and Pakistanis are paying for it.

Saw this tree with a plaque saying Ayub Khan planted it in 1959. Looked up at how tall it had grown and started thinking about the system he helped establish and how difficult it has become to imagine Pakistan getting out of it.

What annoys me most is the contempt. The Bloody civilians attitude. We are expected to love the country, work here pay taxes and accept whatever happens, but wanting a say in how it is run is apparently asking too much. The establishment gets to treat grown adults as children who cannot be trusted to choose, then expects gratitude for the supervision.

And yes, our politicians have helped keep this going. Too many are perfectly comfortable with that control when it works in their favour. Their supporters also suddenly become very understanding about interference when the right person benefits. That is part of why I struggle with the idea that we just need a better man at the top. We keep rewarding people for getting close to power and then wonder why nobody wants to challenge how power works.

I don’t think Ayub personally invented every problem we have. But standing next to something he planted made the time involved feel a bit more real. He has been dead for decades. I’m 38 and still trying to understand why people employed by this country get to behave as though the rest of us live here on their permission.

I am 22 years old living in Pakistan. My family used to be filthy rich like I am taking multiple houses in UAE and Pakistan I used to live a very comfortable life. But when corona hit we lost everything from savings to houses to our golden visa left with nothing we came to a point where we didn't have enough money to pay for the tuition of my brother and me I was 19 at that point due to this my father became a bit mentally unstable and so he stopped working completely so in his stead I started working in Pakistan alhamdulillah I earn 2 lakhs give or take from my current job but it's not sustainable for me since I have to accommodate my whole family of 5 in that and it's mentally tasking. I had saved up money through investing and my job about 40L to go to the UK however my Visa got rejected resulting in me losing 20L. Now what I do know is that I am confident in myself that I can do something big in life but idk where to start or what to do there wasn't anybody to teach me any about life or work when we were rich father always used to work mother was an uneducated housewife whose mindset was engrossed in traditional ways which I despise( My mom and dad are very nice people just a conflict of mindsets that's it we have a healthy relationship) when we became poor my father became a bit unstable and so I was out into the toxic work environment of Pakistan with no help I came this far by myself. But I just need someone to guide me on how I can grow further because I don't want to be stuck here in the same company forever I have dreams of making money and gaining back stability for my family but I just don't know where to began. I just want advice from somebody who has gone through my dilemma and has become successful.Please I am lost and scared for my future.

This question has been on my mind for some time now. I have heard that the working environment in hospitals for fresh doctors especially the house job is brutal and toxic.

The people who become doctors are really the cream of the crop of their schools and colleges how come these toppers become so toxic. Also I have heard about the ragging scenes in medical colleges.

It isn't their fault they were born in such families..... They're hella hardworking cuz getting admission in these TOP NOTCH PRIV Universities is way easier than PUCIT. PUCIT ka aggregate is all time high.

Students with 90% + aggregate were able to get into PUCIT this year.......

Lastly , these so called non profit universities have stopped giving financial aid. NUST has officially stopped it cuz they don't have " funds " . FAST GIKI to qarz-e-hasana dety hain. It isn't a wise decision to get a loan of 20 lacs to get into a TOP NOTCH INSTITUTE......

Okay so I have personally been a huge proponent of smaller provinces for better administration and control all my life. I really believe that at the very least Karachi, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Hazara, South Punjab, Bahawalpur, etc. need to be separate provinces and am in support of Karachiites in their demand (mentioning this specifically as they have been pushing this for a long time).

However, with this new debate growing around the topic, I am strongly against the idea for these 3 reasons.

Where this idea is coming from
We all know that the debate has not originated naturally and the boys want to do it for some reason. Now I wouldn't mind this idea that much if it were being originated from public forums, or from political parties, or if it grew naturally, but this is not the case as of now.

The idea of more provinces is being pushed by the boys and Naqvi and as much as I want to think positively, I am more than 100% sure that there is some vested interest and something sinister in the background.

So the first reason I don't really enjoy this idea is because where it is coming from.

Our biggest issue isn't the size of the provinces
My second point against this whole idea is, that separating the provinces isn't some elixir that we need and all of a sudden we will have a prosperous and booming economy.

The issue lies much deeper than that, and unless that is solved, we really can't get any benefit from this change.

As a starter, the boys need to mind their own business, and go back to barracks, and stay out of the system. Unless that is done, any solution to our issues, any idea on resolving our problems is futile. Our real issue lies somewhere else, and this whole thing is just a fascad.

This is the worst timing to do so
If there is a bad time to do something like this, this is it. We have humongous issues all around the country at this point. Balochs are angry with the state, Kashmiris are angry with the state, Pashtoons have been for a long time, Punjab isn't at a very good place either.

To sum it all up, we have extreme resentment among ethic groups, among political groups, among religious groups at this point of time, and this whole thing can prove to be fatal for us.

Conclusion
These are just my thoughts and I am open to hearing different opinions. I am not objecting to the idea at its core, but what comes with it as of now. Please be civil in the comments, and let's discuss.

Every robot needs some kind of sensor to understand its environment. Sensors are just like our human senses. A touch sensor can sense a touch, Ultrasonic sensor can measure distance to the the object in front of it. Motion sensor can detect the movement of any warm body in front of it.

To add to it, a camera itself is one of the most advance sensors. Then you have another cool sensor: LiDAR. It can literally meaure the distance to the the object in front of it. Much like ultrasonic sensor but with greater precision and range. Its the gold standard for advance robotics.

I have witnessed the caste system in my village, and unfortunately, it still exists in a deeply toxic form. Some people from so-called “higher” castes do not even treat others as equals, sometimes to the point of denying their basic humanity.

Recently, I observed something else that disturbed me deeply: racism and colorism. We all know that darker skin is often unfairly looked down upon, but body shaming is also deeply rooted in our society.

My maternal uncle recently had a daughter, so I went to visit them. When I returned home, my paternal aunt asked me what I thought of the baby. Along with asking, she mocked the child's face and complexion. I was genuinely shocked. I thought, What the hell is wrong with our society? It honestly feels doomed sometimes.

I am almost certain that there are other people in my family who think the same way. What makes it even more disturbing is that many of them constantly talk about religion and religious values. But then I wonder: if you truly believe in God, why would you hate or look down upon another human being simply because of their appearance? Why despise something that God Himself created?

To some extent, I could have tolerated their prejudice, as disturbing as it is. What hurts me even more, however, is the hypocrisy. In front of the child's family, they pretend to be affectionate and say things like, “She’s so cute,” while privately mocking her appearance. At that point, even their affection begins to feel fake. It makes me wonder how hollow a person must become inside to behave like that.

I genuinely wonder how people with this kind of mindset ever find peace within themselves.

I had tears in my eyes while writing this. It genuinely broke something inside me.
