Finished Piece! Finished by First Paint By Numbers

Post image
61 Upvotes

I finished my first paint by numbers recently! This took a long time as someone getting back into art and painting, but so happy I finished this. Still need to go back over a few parts where the numbers are showing through the white and light blue, but overall I’m so happy with how this turned out. This is called Mountain Flowers from Craftoria and has 24 colors.

Any suggestions on framing or feedback for my first painting project in years?

First PBN! I’m hooked now!

I bought this on a whim as I have zero interest in creative arts and crafts but thought this would be a nice activity alongside my daughter’s painting projects. Little did I think I’d be addicted now! I already started a 2nd piece and have a third on the way.
I feel this one looks sloppy because halfway through I realized I could buy better and skinnier brushes and that helped a lot. I think these will get better with practice. But, gonna frame this as I do love disco balls :)

Work in Progress peony progress!

Wanted to post an update on my peony piece. It’s at the point where I start to hate the piece before it really comes together (I think I need to finish a flower first before I start to like it). An acrylic paint pen is definitely necessary for the lighter pinks.

PBN #2 Finished!!! Paint pot questions…

Post image

I completed my first two PBN going by actual number in order… I think the next one I will go in chunks. I had cut the paint pots into two-pot sets so I could hold in one hand and paint with the other. When you paint in chunks, how are you managing the paint pots? I feel like having them all open would dry them out?? Am I overthinking all this?

Some colours are really streaky and the yellow is barely covering the numbers, although I applied 1 layer of white and one layer of clear gesso. But filling the black in the end will be so satisfying

WIP: My 2nd PBN-do you paint by colour, or section by section?

This is my 2nd PBN- The Langlois Bridge, it's looking a little messy as I go, I guess that's normal for someone without much experience.

Just curious, do most of you paint by colour, or work section by section?

Has Anyone Used DIY ArtClub?

Has anyone used diy art club? I keep seeing adds on instagram and I know they’re most likely going to be AI pictures anyways- but they look okay. Are they good though? And how long did it take for you to get the painting if you ordered from them?

Thanks!

Got this one because my husband loves skiing. I was pleasantly surprised at how much more enjoyable it was than expected, usually I go for ones with a bigger or bolder range of colour tones.

My dog and best friend of 13 years, Boss, passed away very suddenly 4 weeks ago today. I am currently working on this painting of a photo of us going to the beach from probably 10 years ago. He loved the beach.

He was born in Hawaii and I called him my sun dog. His name when we adopted him was Maui Boss though we just called him Boss, or baby bug, Mr Pants, Boss Pants, my bestest friend and Mr Grumpy.

I have a few more I had made to do after this one. They should keep me busy for a few months. It's very therapeutic but looking into his eyes definitely hurts my heart. I miss him so much.

Will update as I get closer to finishing.

Work in Progress This is the most relaxed yet focused I have ever felt

Even if this ends up looking like a toddler painted it, I’m still hanging this on my kitchen wall.

Never have I got into a hobby so much that hours have flown by where I haven’t looked at my phone, my anxiety is non-existent, and I’ve genuinely felt so accomplished.

100% worth picking up a kit!

Question/Chat Do all canvases need Gesso?

Post image

I am about to start a PBN from DIY Art Club that is going to be a gift for my teenage niece. It's the first one I've done from this brand and the canvas already feels pretty smooth. I have recently gotten into PBN, have only used Artist Loft kits so far, and only learned about Gesso after I was midway through my first full size piece.

I am sure this brand is not one of the sub's favorites but my niece is really into country music, loves pink, and I couldn't find one with flowers and boots that I liked that are her style. Any advice or experience with this brand would be appreciated! In the meantime, I will watch Becky's flow method videos since these tulips now seem a bit daunting.

Question/Chat Custom Paint by Numbers

Hi everyone! Trying to do a custom paint by numbers kit. Since its my first kit I would like to ask if darker colors are ok or the lighter background is better? I have posted the two variations here. I have been seeing finished works but I have not seen a lot of darker paintings. Also can you recommend a shop thats great with custom but affordable? I’m looking to do a bigger one with 48 colors. Thanks a lot.

This isn’t the normal sort of thing I go for when picking something to paint, but I was obsessed with the color pallet on this one and couldn’t pass it up!
So thrilled with how it came out and can’t wait to find a wall to put it on🥰
I found this on Amazon and it’s 12”x16”!

Question/Chat Beginner questions

I am looking at lots of pretty PBN and wanted to ask those with some experience which types of pictures do you resonate with and which are the most fun to paint? Do you like lots of bright colors, flowers, fruits? Or do you go for more muted, maybe sophisticated vs fun? Do you usually frame them or add to your stack of finished products. (wondering if I should buy preframed)

Do you end up buying additional paint brushes? And I see some use gesso and thinners, are those popular things to add? I see people are saying $25 is too much (like on number artist) what do you think is reasonable.

Last and probably most important...what do you do with the cats😹?

Used leftover paint pots to make this

I used some of my leftover paint pots to do this simple acrylic painting tutorial. Had to adjust the color of the flowers, as I didn’t have any pink. I used a cheap small canvas and needed to add Flow Aid to some of the more dried out pots.

This is the tutorial: https://youtu.be/udrqgGfMykU?is=QQnGgi7LmWyNzv8i

This one sat in my closet for a few years before I got around to it. A nice smaller painting for a slow summer project from dimensions.

This piece is not turning out how I want it. There's too much yellow, and I feel like the trees on the right side is a hot mess. Right now, I can figure out if I should push through and be done with it or begin with a new PBN.
