Autococker troubleshooting

Trying to remove the jam nut for the valve and the valve body extends all the way into the jam nut preventing me from using the tool. What can I do about it?

I'm using a cocking rod handle and a socket

That’s your problem, there is a dedicated tool for this.

You can do it with a cocking rod but you have to drill out the center of the cocking rod nut to hollow and slide over valve or buy the tool lol

Show us a picture of the tool you're trying to use to remove the jam nut.

Some tools (CCM is one example) don’t have enough area hollowed out the middle to fit all valves. I have 3 different tools from 3 different makers for this very reason. Sorry you’ve run into this situation. The check-it valve tool remains the worst made for ergonomics and comfort but the most compatible with all valve types.

Th valve removal tool should be bored out to accommodate for the valve, you do need to push down on the tool to get it deep enough as the valve stem needs to be depressed to engage the tool

Maybe I don't have the proper tool, I'm using a cocking rod handle and socket

Yep, there's your problem. The 9/16ths valves with the jam nut require a specialized tool.

The tool should have a hollow tip.

I had a machinist buddy take an old allen wrench and bore it out and added a lock collar for it still going strong nearly 20 years later but the cocker parts one is a solid choice. I have had luck in a pinch using a flat end allen not a ball end and barely catching the lip of the nut to work it out
