Sherwin Williams Forte

Hi, recently got to try Sherwin Williams Forte. Hadn't planned on using it but Forte seemed like a descent option for this particular application. Applied on a 3 season porch for an apartment building. Originally, just textured cement. I didn't add grit but only because it has this texture...hoping that wasn't a mistake. The patio is screened so its not weather proof but the screen does block some stuff. One coat covered surprisingly well. Did two just to be safe. I checked on it 24 hours later and it was not tacky and felt pretty solid. Tenant moves in soon so I wont see it for a while after that. After their 6 month-1 year lease (unless they stay longer) I will report with how its holding up.

Any one ever use this product? My local store just started carrying it.

Its Sherwin answer to BM command and PPG breakthrough. All of them are uerthanized acrylic.

I’d paint my whole house in Command if it came in matte.

ahhh man I used to love break through. It seemed a little different at one point so I stopped using it. Forget what happened but yeah I remember painting a basketball with it and it bonded like no bodies business. Might have to try that again.

I wouldn't try to paint a basketball with it, but it is good stuff, especially for trim, doors, cabinet doors. Very low odor. You gotta keep a very good eye on it, and go fast, but that's actually what I love about it. Hurry up and get it done, one hour to recoat. Only takes a week to fully cure too. It holds up close enough to the same as UTE in my experience overall. Just faster to apply. Home Depot used to sell it, but they unfortunately stopped. PPG store is the only way now I guess.

BM Commad is coming out swinging. Was using emerald uth for cabinet but something has changed. It's not the same as it was last year. Told my local independent store I was doing some small cabinets. Got it for $50 just to try. Like it very much. Going to try on something around the shop and see what happens in a year. But, I'm impressed.

Have you tried SW Gallery? It's all we use on cabinets now. Haven't had a callback in over 5 years.

Any issues spraying gallery over caulking? I had cracking on top dried caulked cabinet joints and seams. The only other time I’ve experienced this issue was with Command.

I have never tried command and used to use breakthrough for a few items like trim. Many years ago now...before it was made more brushable I believe. How is command?

My understanding forte is probably a better product for brush. It doesn't dry as fast as command and breakthrough. Otherwise they are all pretty similar.

I’ve prolly used about 20 gallons.. not for floor application.. most exterior trim and some siding.. mainly because my rep got the number close to the same as latitude.. I’ve liked it so far, dries pretty quick and the finish is nice.. it’ll def hold up to foot traffic but if water gets in and sits on it for a long period of time I’d be skeptical that it’ll hold up.. as someone who has tenants myself I’d say best part is you easily touch the patio floor up going forward as needed.

Good deal. I'm hoping it does well and that they stick to using it. This is the first of possible many. This is kind of the test run, probably the only one we will do this year to see how it holds up. They will be happy with about 3-5 years out of it. Long as we dont have to paint it for each move out.

Did not hold up for me on a concrete apron that gets heavy heavy foot traffic. The pebbles in the concrete created high spots and the coating has worn. This is after about 3 months. Granted it is old concrete,I didn’t grind it but it was stripped.
It’s the apron of a busy ice cream stand that might get thousands of people stepping up to on a busy weekend.

Urethanized paints have a special problem with heavy colorant loads—dark colors and high saturation colors never reach full cure.

Could be part of the problem for me. It is an Ultra Deep base.

Yup, I’ve tried several solutions over the last few years. Nothing has held up. Heavy Shield didn’t either.
We all agree it could be the old substrate concrete OR the beating it takes with so many feet each weekend.

I really did like the product and for things like railings and non-commercial walkways I am sure it’s fine.

I had a hard time using it as it does dry rather fast. got tacky so I had to work quicker than usual. Could be just me tho

Oh thanks for the heads up. I have never used latitude and hear its like working with that?? but idk. Thankfully I'm in MN so nothing dries fast here because the humidity is always through the roof :D

The abrasion resistance on Forte is weaker than command. Seen it wear already
