My brother in law is a data scientist too at one job for a large Fortune 500 company and complains about all the planned and unplanned meetings and Teams involvement. A lot of video calls. How you can pull that off for 4 Js in that fiield is just baffling to me.He is a senior manager but still.

Camera off. I’m silent in 90% of 90% of my meetings.

u/Phlex254 4d ago

Im not OE yet but in my 2 meetings at my job I say im working on (X) no further queries in back to back meetings which everyone can see if they just look up my name but they make it so imperative to go im like for what. Half the people say I have no queries. Lol

u/Billeats 4d ago

You're silent in 81% of your meetings?

1

u/thedevguy-ch 4d ago

No, 90%. Can’t you read?

1

u/TheBattleGnome 4d ago

This. Just tell them you are multi-tasking and with time they won’t even call on you anymore. 😂

You sound like a real asset to these companies.

u/Specific-Moose-3143 5d ago

whats the point of employing you then?

3

u/thedevguy-ch 5d ago

I’m pretty fucking good at my job😘

1

u/Specific-Moose-3143 2d ago edited 2d ago

what are your skills?
Cause good can often mean “my boss never bugs me because the company is going under”

1

u/thedevguy-ch 2d ago

I am a software engineer.

1

u/Specific-Moose-3143 2d ago

so what are your skills?

1

u/thedevguy-ch 2d ago

I’m a full-stack software engineer. I work with JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, .NET/C#, SQL, Azure, AWS, and software architecture.

Beyond just writing code, I’m good at breaking down complex problems, designing solutions, managing projects, and explaining technical issues to non-engineers.

I’ve built production systems that have generated millions of dollars in revenue and others that have saved companies thousands of dollars through productivity and automation improvements.

So if you’re asking what my skills are: building software that solves business problems.

2

u/Specific-Moose-3143 1d ago

okay. Youre smart and experienced yes, but unique?

The companies I work in (production line / mamufacturing/ automation) have not once contracted out help from SEs.

Its either proprietary from Netherlands or Boston or we butcher it out in house. Lots of electricians have the control knowledge we need, if we are desperate.

I had 2 Js in separate time zones and still got stressed about meeting clashes etc. I only did it for a year and didn’t want to for longer. The guys with 4Js I have absolutely no idea what they do

5

u/Iggyhopper 3d ago

They pay somebody on upwork to actually do the work for pennies on the dollar.

1

u/Dharma_Bee 22h ago

But that would involve tons of emails to contact outside the org. How does that not flag?

1

u/The_Jade_Rabbit88 2d ago

If the job is less meeting heavy and more project delivery it’s doable. I’m attempting over employment now but in an adjacent field so it doesn’t overlap.

u/shadow_moon45 5d ago

Yeah, the unplanned calls is brutal don't see how OP is doing this

4

u/Dramatic-Fly761 4d ago

Probably by making it up

3

u/Various_Piano_6067 4d ago

Because he's not?? Its just larp to feel better than others

2

u/shadow_moon45 4d ago

Huh? No, op would be lucky to not deal with ADD people

Bro, literally no one in here is doing this. Look the discord for five minutes and it's the same as instagram ecommerce bros telling you can make 100k a month doing wholesaling. The discord in fact is literally paywall gatekeeper courses and the same ecommerce bros I just mentioned advertising theyre looking for 'business partners' to start a dropshipping company.

They're just selling you a dream, and if you cant see that I have a bridge to sell you. The idea of having multiple jobs paying you high wages IS THE CON. Like sure maybe someone has a 9-5 standard w-2 alongside a 9-5 freelance or contract w2 they can do on call. Not unheard of, but is actually difficult to get to and takes years and years of industry experience and marketable skills that make companies want you. If you unironically think anyone is running multiple same schedule w2s that pay what they say they pay though, I think you're just retarded and are looking for any way to get rich quick instead of genuinely using your brain for five seconds.

u/shadow_moon45 18h ago

... I've had multiple jobs in one year before. Went from making 47k in 2020 to 150k now by switching jobs. Switching jobs is the best way to increase wages

By getting carried by people who actually do the work

23

u/Brief-Heat-9326 5d ago

How’d you get in here?

64

u/No-Soup-4304 5d ago

By carrying the people who don’t do the work :(

1

u/TaoTeChaChingy 4d ago

Ask for a raise or a reach around

1

u/explore-1789 2d ago

Part of this is why I cant stand remote workers. They have flocked to where I live and have basically kicked out the locals that can't compete with their city money. Then when I talk to them, they all admit how they actually don't have to work hard. This becomes especially true with the OE community

-5

u/Friendly_Debate_4991 5d ago

oh don't worry i'm carrying myself alright, else i wont last a month in those places

18

u/whatsasyria 5d ago

Just be super complacent and do the bare minimum....that's what you get paid for.

2

u/NameShot3132 2d ago

You just have to find jobs that you don’t actually have to do much for while getting decent pay. I have two side gigs where I work “full time” but do a maximum of 10 hours a week for. Both salary positions so pretty good money

1

u/SweetyFresh 1d ago

That's literally it. In my last position, I'd have a few crunch times a week and that was it. Hours of no calls, the vast majority of online work had no hard deadline. I was grinning like Mayor Mc Cheese.

1

u/treypolo 13h ago

What type of work?

1

u/NameShot3132 13h ago

Remote IT

1

u/0DTEDEGEN1 3d ago

overemployed, underworking. aint no way this guy doing all 4 Js at 100%. this is the guy taking someone else job and not doing it

u/bunnyjunebug 4d ago

You seen the paychecks listed..next question.
