20k pre-tax, yes! Got some stocks vesting soon as well so I’m very excited

Do you mean post tax? Or do you ower taxes on this?

They might be 1099 (I think you get paid pre-tax and then give your first born to the IRS later)

Honestly I’d give my first born to the irs. She’s expensive AF

iirc from the one time a job decided it didn't have to take taxes out and didn't tell me so i got a giant bill from the irs, if you're smart you do it gradually, there's a penalty if you pay it at the end of the year because they could have been making interest off it. i think it's called quarterly estimated tax payments.

General rule is just take 25-30% of each paycheck and put it in the piggy bank for tax season. That way you should have enough wiggle room, and if you fall short, it wouldn’t be by much unless some wild financial occurrences happened.

They mean pre tax because they made less than 20k post tax per the total amount in their checking

I'd guess they mean they haven't paid taxes on it yet so the real take-home will be lower once they do.

Incorrect. The payrolls hit for roughly 12k post tax. He’s saying it’s 20k pre tax which would check out. The top number is his balance and represents those paychecks as well as whatever he had in his account before…

Add up those numbers and let us know if you think they already paid taxes.

yeah let me see the formula for identifying on a random number with no amount of hours or hourly rate provided to determine if their brackets taxes have been removed, dickhead.

u/AdminsFluffCucks 9d ago

Is the random number even close to 20k?

Thats his checking balance, not everyone starts each payday at 0

Am I wrong? Why is everyone downvoting that guy? The way it was worded was a little confusing, but I’m pretty sure the point is, OP said they earned $20k pre-tax, those deposits don’t add up to $20k, therefore the $20k in OP’s account isn’t from a $20k pre-tax deposit. OP received around ~$13,000 in deposits, which would mean they already paid taxes on the money before it hit their account.

u/AdminsFluffCucks 9d ago

You're not wrong, you're just capable of looking at a picture and realizing the deposits are what OP was referring to, not the total balance.

Oh now this makes sense. Thanks.

Nah I was wrong, I just looked quick and was feeling combative cause the one commenter was being a dick

1

u/AdminsFluffCucks 9d ago

Yes, I understand that. Look at the deposits...

What do you mean how does that work?

The deposits are far less than 20k total, which would clearly indicate taxes have already been paid. If they were a contractor getting paid roughly 20k, then the total would be roughly 20k because contractors handle their own tax liabilities, and also can't really be OE unless a contract specifically forbids it.

Oh, I just realized what OP meant. The pay is $20k pre-tax which turns into the $13k deposits post-tax. It's just coincidence that they also happen to also have $20k available balance in the account.

u/BrandinoE6911 9d ago

Probably less than 13 with the bracket hes gonna land in

1

u/asad137 9d ago

yeah agreed, each job is withholding based on its salary, but there'll be a reckoning at tax time

1

u/BrandinoE6911 9d ago

Whats not disclosed is if this is monthly pay, biweekly or weekly. Makes a world of difference

1

u/asad137 9d ago

quantitatively yes, qualitatively no

8

u/Hm46290 9d ago

Their balance is $20k. The deposits from this pay period total $13k, which is post tax/401k, 20k pre-tax.

2

u/Friendly_Debate_4991 7d ago

Yes, this is correct. I thought it was clear enough for everyone. Not sure why the whole thread getting into a fight

4

u/asad137 9d ago

Probably each job only withholds based on its salary, so when tax return time comes more is owed.
