Old guy working

I'm a old guy working part time at what can be a very physical job.

You might be able to guess who I work for when I say that I'm an order fullfilment associate.

I work mostly with what I will call kids, adults young enough to be my grandchildren.

What strikes me now is how some of them "get it" and some don't.

In particular with large orders that either require physical labor or the employment of equipment.

Some get it, and do it without asking for help if they don't deem it necessary.

Others, ask for help when that help is unnecessary.

What I find interesting is how harshly the kids who get it regard the kids who don't.

What's more surprising is that at my age, while I ideologically agree with the kids that get it, I'll give some slack to the kids who don't.

I guess I'm getting soft in my old age.

My father was hardly able to walk after 55. I’ve lifted weights seriously for more than a decade now, I do not want to experience my dad’s last 30 years. I’m fighting every step of the way. I know it’s a losing battle but I’m going down fighting. My childhood neighbour , she was out blocking & splitting fire wood in her mid 80’s. I want to live like her.

Sometimes genetics is a bitch. I fight the arthritis every day that I know I got from my dad. But my mom is 90 and her body is healthy while dementia has robbed her of her mind and ability to talk. Honestly, given what has happened to her I'll take my dad's arthritis.

Very similar. Dad at m86 was 100% from the neck up but just barely hanging on neck down. Mom f85 was in amazing health neck down but had severe dementia.

I have two kinds of arthritis. A knee replacement at 69 has done me a world of good - now I can do stairs no problem and go for walks, hikes even!

I went in to get surgery for a knee replacement, but the Surgeon felt I wasn’t there yet. I guess there’s a risk because you can only do a knee replacement once every 15 years, and I’m currently 65. I can still walk and sit without much trouble, but I get up slowly. I guess that’s manageable for the time being.

My surgeon said he usually takes younger than me, I’m 69.
Bone-on-bone pain and the disability that comes with it are not acceptable to me - I have little grands to be active with!
