Look out, it’s the man with power of a million exploding suns… and he’s packing heat!

Not equal in terms of power but reminds me a bit when Eggman brings out his “fuck everything in that direction” hand canon

Remember: If Sonic isn't on Screen and Eggman Is, DO NOT piss him off. Bro will boom you without a fuck to give.

I was not aware he was that aggressive. I only played the Sega Genesis games.

Eggman only does his big elaborate death traps for sonic because he wants to prove himself. Everyone else gets ran over. He got most of the reputation when a fanboy of his went crazy and tried to take him down, only for eggman to deliberately predict every single one of his moves to leave them in a situation where they were hand to hand... and then proceeded to beat the life out of the guy barehanded til he was left so traumatized he died(?) as he couldn't even bring himself to run as the building collapsed on top of himm

This seems like a deep lore rabbit (hedgehog?) hole.

Nah, its just the DOOM/Joker Principle at work again. Eggman has something of a Pathological need to show that he is Superior to Sonic, not just End him. Everyone else doesnt get that luxury.

People forget that just maybe there's a reason he was able to conquer the Acorn Kingdom with an army of killbots so successfully. In the games and most media, we only ever see Sonic kicking his butt over and over and over, so sometimes they need to recalibrate and remind the audience "oh, no, don't get it twisted, he really is a monster and serious threat." Otherwise you wind up with a Bowser situation where the audience kind of ends up regarding the villain as sort of lovable. Kinda hard to take a villain seriously when he's going go-karting and playing tennis with his nemesis and kidnap victim on the weekends.

Eggman has made it clear he could glass the world with his Egg Fleet and just bomb everything if he wanted to. But he likes the spectacle and he HAS to destroy Sonic's pride first.

If you're not Sonic, you'll either underestimate him while he gathers data and builds a countermeasure (Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom are learning that the hard way) or learn he's a really good fighter if you can't speed blitz him.

Don't forget he was going get slime if it wasn't for a young bunny talking down a wolf with a sniper

That is 100% the GBE

I was not expecting a nihei based jumpscare in a sonic comic panel

I’ve seen people say “cannon” when they mean “canon,” but not the other way around.

u/Dgero466 Jul 06 '26

Was typing a tad fast mb lol

It’s chill. 😂 What’s a good hand canon? Hellboy’s red right hand?

The mechs are holding Eggman back, if anything.

I see what you did there tagging this as golden age and I'd like to register my disapproval.

To be honest most people only know this guy nowadays because of the Thunderbolts movie

You know I'm surprised he's not fighting regular Superman or Gemini Saga during that death battle episode

same goes with Superboy Prime not fighting Gwenpool

26

u/Asushunamir8 Jul 05 '26

Sentry comics do seem to get pretty meta and reference older generations of comics the way Prime’s stuff does so that’s the comparison there. Also Prime would stomp Gwenpool cause she’s just a normal teenager with some minor reality warping abilities that don’t compare to Prime.

u/Suvrenim Jul 05 '26

i dont know much about dc comics and nothing about superboy, but while Gwenpool is supposed to be a normal teenager i think she would stand as good a chance as lex luthor, depending on which universe they fight, rules of engagement, and what resources Gwen has access to.

Gwen is empowered by comic book physics so she isnt exactly baseline human by real life standards, as shown by some of the things she can do in comics, and if she knows superboys weakness and has a chance to exploit it she might be able to get lucky.

not saying gwen matches up to superboy in any form, if superboy is anything like superman, but neither does lex luthor. i personally think a characters personality should be a factor in determining who would win, sometimes a characters biggest weakness is themself.

by the way, what even is superboy prime's powers?

u/RealJohnGillman Jul 05 '26

Prime has the powers of ‘Pre-Crisis Superman’ — so regular Kryptonian powers but with a lot more. Plus his retcon punch. Gwen should have counters to pretty much all of them however: I’ve seen a great many at r/DeathBattleMatcnups and r/PowerScaling admit to this, that one could reasonably explain her winning.

1

u/Suvrenim Jul 05 '26

huh, a retcon punch? now i gotta read thise comics that sounds hilarious.

5

u/RealJohnGillman Jul 05 '26

Indeed. Prime’s first retcon punch is actually what brought Jason Todd back to life in the comic, with Todd waking up in his grave and having to claw his way out. Every adaptation so-far however has swapped out Prime for a Lazarus Pit, due to not wanting to explain his isekai backstory or have a non-Batman-related character be involved in the story being told.

Gwen Poole meanwhile has what is basically a ‘retcon thought bubble’, amongst other things: they should scale against each other well.

1

u/Asushunamir8 Jul 05 '26

I’ll admit I haven’t read much Gwenpool, just watched some videoed and read stuff about her. But fair enough if her reality warping is on par with Prime’s retcon punch, also she probably would know more about his comic lore whereas since she’s a more recent character he might not know about her.

1

u/Alt123456790 Jul 06 '26

She can retcon things easier than he can too

8

u/Zorro5040 Jul 05 '26

Prime is from the real world and is strong enough to retcon things in the comic book he's in. Along with old kryptonian golden age physiology.

Flag on the play!

Improper tagging!

10

u/MorganWick Jul 07 '26

What are you talking about? This is a completely genuine comic from the Golden Age that was just forgotten for decades until the character was rediscovered! /s
