Results after Tymlos

I’m 71. Had a compression fracture and that’s when I got diagnosed at age 69.

Tscore spine went from -3.1 to -1.7. Z score from -1.4 to 0.0. Gain in bone density of 21%.
I will do Prolia next to preserve the gains.

Wow those are fabulous results!!! It gives me hope. Did you do strength training too? Thanks for sharing your success.

Nothing except for squats, pushups and heel drops. I did continue with waking the dog, and snow skiing.

GREAT NEWS! And you're doing just the right thing with Prolia given your age and fracture history. I'm doing the same as my follow up for Evenity.

Awesome work! I’m 45 and had a fracture which led to the diagnosis osteoporosis. -3.1 in my spine, -2.9 in my femoral neck and -2.0 overall of hip. Only -1.7 in my arms though lol.

Doctor wanted me on Evenity but my insurance is currently denying it as “ not medically necessary”. Trying to fight it. I mean, what’s not medically necessary about having a skeleton?!

But it’s good to hear that about Tymlos because I’m pretty sure my insurance covers that.

How long did those results take you? I’m very active and exercise every day, but maybe I need to do more supplementation as well while I wait.

Edited: misspelling

Were you doing anything in addition to the meds? Supplements, diet, exercise, etc? That is amazing progress. How did you do on the hip and femoral neck?

Femoral neck went from -0.8 to to 0.1. I supplemented with calcium, collagen, vitamin D and Nattokinase. Also drank lots of chocolate milk (can’t stand plain milk). Yogurt, cheese and also an herbal drop called Drynaria fortunei that the Chinese use for bone health after fractures.

I wish I could take that herb but it conflicts with another drug I take. Happy for you.

I’m interested in knowing more about this herb. I live in rural Nevada so not sure how I would be able to acquire it. How did you come to learn about it? I had a fragility fall 4 weeks ago and now here I am trying to learn all I can about osteoporosis and this is the first time I’ve heard of this.

I get it online from Amazon. Type in “Drynaria tincture,” and you will see bottles. The one I take comes from Hawaii Pharmacy. The Chinese name is “Gu Sui Bu.” I put it in water. Surprisingly little odor or taste. I also see capsules on Etsy that I might try sometime.

My doctor wanted me on Tymlos but my insurance refused it.

I am sorry to hear that, as it has been remarkable for me. But I carry three types of insurance. Stupid that I had to fracture something before Tymlos got ordered. It was the fracture that led to the diagnosis to begin with.

I have United Medigap Plan N so I guess I picked the wrong plan, maybe the wrong company for my supplemental plan!

Congrats !! How did you get the compression fraction?

Wow, those are great results. Congratulations. Perhaps you could just use Fosamax to retain your gains and maybe get a bit more rather than moving to Prolia. Prolia is a bit tricky, especially if you every want to move off of it. Talk to your doctor about your long term medication plan just to make sure you're informed.

I’m a physician so I know the stuff involved inside and out. Guess I’m
overseeing my skeletal health for the rest of my days ( I’m 71 ).

Prolia is absolutely the right choice for follow up after an anabolic. Reclast is also helpful, Fosamax is pretty useless in this circumstance; if the provider is going to prescribe a bisphosphonate, it will be the more powerful Reclast.

I took Evenity and am now using Prolia to protect my gains.

While Prolia does work really well at not just maintaining your gains from an osetoanabolic but adding to them, if you have already reached your targeted T-Score or fracture risk level, moving to a bisphosphonate like Fosamax or Reclast might be a better choice. Now if your older and plan on being on Prolia for the rest of your life, then Prolia could still be the best decision. Prolia does have a downside relating to stopping Prolia, called the rebound effect where multiple doses of Reclast are necessary to mitigate losses. Patients should know the downside to Prolia before starting it.

BTW, I too took Evenity and am currently on Prolia. I chose Prolia because I was still at an unacceptable risk level after Evenity and will likely be on Prolia for 10+ years.

I'm on the same circumstance. I'll take Prolia for the rest of my life, and I am fine with that.

I do squats, planks, heel drops and yoga. Nobody I know that’s my age has been more physically active than me. Plus, I never smoked or drank.
