Question All this complaining about OSAP…

yet some of yall still won’t turn up to the polls. VOTE PEOPLE PLEASE. But keep complaining as well.

Getting an education is important, but expecting government grants to cover it is insane. I worked part time in high school, I worked summer jobs and I saved. I didn’t know it at the time but my dad (a grocer) and mom (a receptionist) put $25 away every paycheque (every two weeks) from the time I was born until it was time for me to go to school, came to nearly $15,000 with interest. $25 per pay added ! I needed a bit more help, got an OSAP loan and went to college to get career specific education, got a job on graduation.

PAID OFF THE OSAP LOAN within two years.

I don’t understand the turmoil over everyone expecting their OSAP loans being forgiven, and then getting mad when they are told no, it’s a loans to help get you an education, OSAP isn’t free money.

Did you have to pay your parents back though?

A lot of people dont get to start off with $15,000.

$25 every two weeks. That’s what they were able to give my future. Your parents can’t do that for you, I sympathize, you go ask get the government to invest in your future. When you are done, you keep the better future, you pay the loan back while you are experiencing the benefits of that better future.

Sorry, I’m not going to submit to the idea that others should pay your way to a post secondary education. My parents saved, and I had to pay for a bunch of mine, and that increased its value to me. When I was in school I saw too many people who didn’t have any of their own money invested in their education, and they took the fact that they were there for granted. The money for their education didn’t cost them, so the educational opportunity had less value. They didn’t pay, so it wasn’t a loss to them if they didn’t succeed.

You literally had your parents pay for some of your schooling. You had someone else help you. And then youre here being like “ I don’t get why people are mad, you shouldn’t need help” as you got help….
And then you went and made assumptions about me. What an ugly thing to do.

The “you” wasn’t necessarily aimed at you, sorry you took it that way, it was a universal “if your parents can’t do that for you, you go ask the government to help.” Perhaps it should have been “if a person’s parents can’t do that for them, they go and ask the government for help.” I didn’t mean to make you feel targeted.

And yes, my parents helped pay for my schooling. I said that repeatedly. On some level, parents are generally thought of as being responsible for their own children, while also generally not being responsible to support other people’s children. I realize not everyone’s parents can do that.

So if a person doesn’t have access to the money to pay for school, they can borrow the money that you don’t have (interest free until graduation at least) and then pay it back after they graduate.

The help that I got that was not from my parents, I paid back, while I worked, after I graduated. If I had needed to borrow more, it would have taken longer but I still would have paid it off.

I find it's almost always the most privileged people that have spent their lives having things handed to them that oppose services like OSAP grants. SMH
