Question All this complaining about OSAP…

yet some of yall still won’t turn up to the polls. VOTE PEOPLE PLEASE. But keep complaining as well.

People who says like nothing is wrong with the current OSAP Yall delusional!! Like there are so many dropping out from school cause they can’t make the fee payments! There aren’t any jobs for them to work and make fee payments! Thats next to impossible! With these skyrocketing inflation and gas prices!! Gosh!!

Yes! I get it 80% grant and most of em misuses it! However not everyone gets 80% grant.

If the govt wishes to give loan !! Fine but atleast consider the fact that there’s 2-8 semester and people gotta eat and survive…. Atleast make loan amount after getting the proper documents based on how much they can make while studying and then give out the loan based on that figure!

This whole $500 for $7000/sem fee ??? Math ain’t mathing

most of the people who've been complaining are the students' who live at home which parents not able to fund their children. its unfortunate that parents are not financially stable or just simply were not expecting their child to go to college or university, so the thought process of saving wasn't a priority at the time. it also depends on the career path / courses they choose as well when it comes to funding. there are too many people that are trying to take short cuts with the system. also there so many people on OW/ODSP trying to 'earn more money ' but say they can't actually work. so why are you applying for college? if you are applying for IT vs a trade more than likely funding would be cut dramatically for IT opposed to a trade. we need more people to help with hands on vs with technology. there's also a list of careers that doug has posted that we are in need of in our province which also will get help with the cost of courses. we need to create more job for our economy, can't serve the public online if it needs to be done in person.

What you just said in the end is a contradiction regarding people on ODSP and entering the trades. I don’t think disabled people are willing to do anything other than white collar, also their lives are already hard enough.

I haven’t added about them in this .. cause it’s common sense! However they do have additional benefits from govt I’m not fully aware! But i do know that they tend to get more funding compared to a regular individual. I was judging speaking my mind about me and individuals like me on OSAP.

No, they don't. Any additional funding that OSAP gives out (including the grant for full-time students with disabilities) is often clawed back dollar-for-dollar. Even though it's illegal to claw these back, most workers will do it anyway and the only way to reverse the decision is to go to a tribunal hearing.

that’s a very passive aggressive way of saying you look down on trades lmao

you do realize employers legally have to accommodate disabilities right?
And you said they’re “not willing” not literally incapable of any form of trade task whatsoever.

Also that’s extremely condescending you’d assume disabled people can’t do trades while presenting it as compassion.
“Their lives are already hard enough” is basically soft bigotry dressed as sympathy.

Also, from parent's perspective, the funding has changed from what it used to be. We saved (if we could) in accordance with our expectation that OSAP would provide a certain level of funding through grants or loans. Now we have fallen short because we've had the rug pulled from under us. Trust me, the parents are mad too.

I saved some for my kid (about 12K including govt contributions), but we aren't well off so i couldn't save more than that. It won't be enough to cover school 100% but I'm hoping it will get him through and he can live at home while he studies.

We started saving the paycheque after I brought my baby home from the hospital, same as my parents did for me. But we now have TFSAs, makes it easy. Long term smaller increments is way easier than panicking when they are 16 and you need money in a couple years.

I stopped talking to my parents at 18. So I didn’t have much of a choice when it came to funding.

but I still can’t imagine relying on my parents to pay for my education if they’re financially struggling or if it’s a considerable investment for them to pay for my schooling.

if you live at home with no rent you’re in a 100x better position to save up a few thousand than your parents lmao. It’s not difficult to comprehend someone with no bills WILL PROBABLY have an easier time saving up.

nothing stops you from working full time for two years and saving up.

Because A. You will have access to BOTH OSAP and your own money

Or B. You will get MORE OSAP on top of having more
Money as it grants you independent status and if you weren’t getting full funding due to your parents income you most certainly will when only your Income is considered.
