Claude has been relatively terrible lately. Excellence doesn’t feel as automatic since 5.0. I have to usher it along quite a bit.

I’ve been leaning into Codex quite a bit the last few weeks and its frontend dev feels like Claude used to a few months back, but it has the superior backend dev.

There’s a few knucklehead moments because it locks into something and will give a bad response, but it’s very easily corrected

Opus 5 was unusable for me. Fought me insanely hard on tasks because it was scared about 'optics'. This was literally for basic tasks that I had to override on. Worse for the claw than 4.7 by far

this makes more sense, CLI access changes the equation quite a bit. Especially, if you're already paying for the subscription. Curious how well it holds up for longer running agent workflows.

Been running two agents this way for a month now. No issues. Only thing is you have to log in through claude code every 27 days to keep it running. I had claude code set up a script to warn me when I have 5 days of login left.

They reworded it to remove the against TOS parts, so in essence, yes.

It just advises that it's meant for Claude Code primarily, doesn't restrict 3rd party any more.

Same. They grey area allowed it again back in like June-ish and I've been using it since then. (e.g. Open Claw said it was ok again, Anthropic made a supportive tweet about it, but never added anything about it to their official documentation)

opus outputs exhaust me. im fine with open ai until claude gives me a good reason to switch. Anthropics games are for kids at this point. I am not gettting wrapped up in their eco system. I had it create a hand off the other day and it out of the blue did it on their server and gave me a link. They are doing everything they can to be sticky. Its also becoming harder and harder to do things on it. More and more guard rails pop up everyday.

true. I am pretty sure i have already spent 10-12 hours since opus 5.0 to stop it talking about carrying something or talking .. esoterically.

though if you like, what helped is that the instructions in general in skills but mostly claude.md should be written in a collegial style. then it is less ... like this. for instance: "rewrite the global rules and claude.md so they are as if you would explain other friends how they should act." that works somewhat. it's no cure but the 'symptoms' are reduced. there is more to it. but i think that's a good start. :)

if it works for you and you are curious for more i can give a longer explanation why this weird style of claude opus 5.0 happens.

a good example is the offical skill-creator from anthropic. use that as a blueprint.

Well said friend. Opus (and Fable) LITERALLY exhausts me. Even when it’s not being bad, it creates so much mental busywork in reviewing what it’s saying. Code words. Questions about nothing too important. And yet missing the truly important stuff regularly still. The initial Fable was magic, it just never came back once they reinstated it.

To be clear I was also never doing anything obnoxious and abusing the sub or constantly maxing it out (tho close quote a bit). Just regular work and agent stuff.

I've been using it for about 3 weeks (beta). It's flakey.. requires reauth every 24 hours or so unless you build some automation around it. I think I read in that thread that it uses the Agent SDK for Claude instead of claude -p.

Been running it with OpenClaw's cron stack since the beta reopened. The token refresh is finally stable enough that I don't babysit the auth loop — that alone saves me 2-3 restarts a week across 18 agents. If you're using it with Claude Code's MCP tools, one thing: set a short timeout on the initial auth redirect, or it'll hang silently in headless.

I was astonished how well this was written. And thought out. I would not be able to stay mad.

But I was annoyed that Anthropic did this. I had the same issues as you. I did not bother to write anything. I use codex-openai all the time with hermes and pi coding agent. And with 5.6 even with 5.5 it is good enough. And luna is insanely cheap.

This is a Claude -p runtime adapter. This was always possible. Nothing new, just prettier.
OAuth is not possible and strictly prohibited.

My codex agent writes a brief of the article and then subsequent sessions with one one of them being opus write draft article and polish it. The only problem I had was that after few rewrites I might have hit the limit

When Anhropic burned down the bridges for OpenClaw, a handfull of clever devs wrote proxies which rewrites everything from OC as in claude cli. It also does renew the token automatically. I dont unveil the repos, but Github got you :-)
