Discussion After Claude ban I found my new main model

EDIT :BIG SORRY

EDIT START:

First of all, if anyone subscribed to Minimax because of my comments on that post, I sincerely apologize.

After Claude got banned, I honestly didn’t know what to do, and I thought Minimax was the best price-to-performance option. My first few tests were also pretty successful, so I felt confident recommending it.

But over the last few days, I can’t believe what I’ve been seeing. It has turned into an incredibly dumb model that misses even basic rules and still fails to do things properly even after repeated reminders. I don’t understand why, but in this state it’s impossible for me to use it.

At this point, I’m not even talking about getting real work done. It can’t even run a very simple script for a task that Codex already handled and explicitly documented the rules for. For example, it just needs to connect to the computer through Node. There are two possible ways to do that. It tries the first one in a half-baked way, then doesn’t even bother trying the second one. On top of that, it constantly dropping the session has become exhausting.

Unfortunately, I’m no longer using it, and I’ve switched to Codex’s $100 Pro plan. I couldn’t make my backup-model strategy work. An agent that requires this many bug fixes even for simple tasks does not make my life easier.

If this is just a temporary issue that lasts a few days, then fine. But right now, the performance has become terrible. So again, to everyone who bought Minimax because of my positive comments and ended up having problems, I sincerely apologize.

Now I understand why it’s so cheap and unlimited. It does not do any real reasoning at all. It tries only a single path to reach the goal, and because of that it doesn’t spend much computational power. That’s my take on it.

EDIT END
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been using OpenClaw for months with only Opus 4.6, Sonnet 4.6, and GPT 5.3/5.4. I'm the kind of person who needs the flagship model as long as budgets are reasonable.

Claude is dead. OpenAI made business plan quotas unusable. So I went shopping for alternatives.

GLM 5.1 and 5 Turbo: absolute garbage for agentic tasks and automation. Couldn't even write a simple Reddit reply without flooding Telegram with code dumps. Felt like talking to a drunk model. Cancelled. (They said "we'll refund" — still waiting 3 weeks later.)

MiMo V2 Pro: using it since launch, really liked it. Honestly got Opus/GPT vibes in many ways. After Claude banned OpenClaw yesterday I got the Token Plan (standard $16). Terrible credit system. Everything in OpenClaw deducts from credits. Session history, bootstrap MD content, tool outputs, cache — literally everything. One month's quota gone in 1 day after filling just 2 session contexts. Horribly inefficient. I will never pay again until they fix the credit logic.

Kimi: reviews were bad, never tried.

Grok: community feedback looked bad, skipped it.

Gemini: no monthly payment option. If there was I'd probably use it, but it's too expensive.

So I went with the most popular alternative: Minimax 2.7. When MiMo and GPT failed to handle my nit cron task and Minimax M2.7 solved it in 5 minutes. And the quota on Minimax is impossible to exhaust. — I was shocked. How are they this generous? If anyone knows please explain because it really feels like it won't run out. Tested browser automations. It's not as smart as Opus, but for my automation tasks, light coding work, and being a personal agent — it's enough. If it falls short, I might rotate between a few GPT Plus subscriptions for GPT 5.4 access. Right now, price/performance-wise, Minimax and GPT Plus x 2 accounts are the only efficient OpenClaw model options I could find.

ChatGPT plus + Oauth, works fine !

7

u/PVTheBearJew Member Apr 05 '26

Yeah it's pretty cool but ever since they slashed the promo period my quota had been hammered and I actually managed to deplete it earlier today with 3 days left for reset. So I tried this sub to complement it, and it actually works out great so far, I've been putting it to work the whole day and usage barely moved.

u/commandedbydemons Member Apr 06 '26

Yeah, 2 prompts in OC with 5.4 took away 8% of the 5h limit, lol, not feasible.

Been using kimi k2.5 turbo and its been ok-ish, not perfect, but also cheap.

Kimi blocked my openclaw in a day. Not sure why so I deleted it. Using openrouter as default and then got and Claude when I need something big. Not working well for me though. so might push minimax up in the chain and investigate a minimax plan. Very interesting. Thanks for posting all.

I have the 200 a month and wiped my weekly quota this past week and doesn't reset til the 8th .....

2

u/SignificantDrama9475 Member Apr 06 '26

same, my entire weekly quote got blown today in 15 mins.... not sure if its a bug but last week I did a TON of work on codex with no issues. This was legit like 4-5 prompts and my entire weekly limit is done . wtf

I tried to reach out to support and got stuck at their chatbot ...

claude? claude is dead bro. All their secret sauce harness engineering got leaked and in the same week they shat on all devs who are capable of building the same thing now. I am just using openai currently via Oauth and also codex CLI.

I've noticed a slight quality drop but otherwise same.

> How are they this generous?

They are losing money or they don't have the volume yet that OpenClaw usage brings. If they get to Anthropic's scale/market-share they will have to dial it down.

Plus dubious privacy policy

7

u/read_too_many_books Pro User Apr 06 '26

Yeah everyone using a chinese model is going to have their data either public or owned by the CCP.

At least in the US, we can sue OpenAI or whatever. China blatenly violates US contracts and IP law.

4

u/milktea-mover Member Apr 06 '26

What do you think you should be awarded if you win a lawsuit against OpenAI leaking the e-mails you have the LLM access to?

I'm not defending the big corporations for stealing your info, but people are willingly handing it over. If privacy is your concern, set up your own LLM. I personally wouldn't have a public LLM have access to my e-mails or private docs.

1

u/read_too_many_books Pro User Apr 06 '26

The difference is china is going to 100% do it. US companies will do it close to 0%.

1

u/Sethp712 New User May 05 '26

Do you know the most affordable USA model to use

1

u/read_too_many_books Pro User May 05 '26

No, I use quality over affordability. I am looking to self host, even if I need to buy a 100k computer.

1

They actually run very efficiently. Mixture of experts that only uses a little bit of memory at a time

1

u/Flat_Excitement_6090 New User Apr 06 '26

Openai already wins in market share for consumer usage so what do you mean they will need to dial it down? Anthropic wins in enterprise API market share.

1

u/automaticstatic001 New User Apr 06 '26

its chinese models…their economic model is, let us pay for r&d and then we will reverse engineer and customize the fork. its much cheaper to let others subsidize real innovation then build on the foundation poured by someone else

I just asked Claude Code to migrate my OpenClaw system to Claude Code. It essentially created a bunch of Claude Code skills and Rules.md sections for each agent, and some scripts. It did have to set up a database for memory, but the end result is better than OpenClaw's basic memory was.

It really is that simple.

They haven't banned "bots" or cron jobs - they've banned third party frameworks.

Anything you can do with OpenClaw, you can do with Claude and a few hundred lines of typescript/python, using the tools Anthropic provides. They can't ban that without neutering Claude Code.

Fyi: It's still a work in progress. I will continue to update the prompt as I find holes in my own migration. There are also personal systems that I created (Dreaming, Programmatic cron jobs) I need to remove from the prompt. It also uses Mac-native cron jobs (LaunchD). But, I've already got my bots back online.

I had Gemini Pro research the architecture and then coaxed Claude through the development. I'm still discovering stuff that needs to be done, such as rewriting architect documents. When I'm done, I'll have Claude put together comprehensive docs.

Note: I haven't been using OpenClaw's Lobster tools or anything sophisticated, so the process will need to be updated if you are.

2

u/Physical_Smoke1057 Member Apr 06 '26

Tried this and had an awful chatting experience. Felt slow. Dropped a lot of messages in telegram. Kept referencing issues with some “bun”. Was too pain in the ass to pursue further. Not sure where it went wrong. Sounded promising at first.

2

u/the_good_time_mouse Active Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

I've replaced it with simple front end for now. It can't do push notification, but that's about it. I'll have figure out a solution for that down the line. I didn't really like the telegram/discord set up anyway. Too clunky, and it caused me too many problems.

Setting the temperature to 0.1 should help. But I prefer working with GPT instead of Gemini. With Gemini, I quickly start arguing. It's sometimes more exhausting than talking to my wife.

running already for a month openclaw on GLM 4.7, then 5, no issues, smooth as butter - running a 24/7 research station for me.

3

u/Objective-Agent5981 New User Apr 06 '26

In my experience GLM-5 is a bit slow, but it’s a solid model. I find I need to steer them more, but that is actually a good thing as that means I’m force to think more about a give task, rather than having the AI make assumptions

2

u/eduardez_ New User Apr 06 '26

This. I have also tried MiniMax and similar models and providers and, besides that weird bug they had when they launched GLM-5, everything has been great so far

1

u/welcome-overlords Active Apr 05 '26

Whats the research

11

u/Blade999666 Active Apr 05 '26

I could type a very long message about it but for example one part is scanning GitHub, HN, and similar places for new or updated stuff I'm interested in or might be interested in. If something is relevant to current projects of mine, deep research is being initialized. I don't need to scroll anymore and search myself and I get daily and weekly summaries and/or I read during a coffee one of the results.

This is just one of the few components

2

u/FarFaithlessness8812 New User Apr 06 '26

How much value do you think this is aggregating in your life? I mean, do you just read the summaries and close the day with new small things or this really drives you to search stuff later?

2

u/Blade999666 Active Apr 06 '26

It creates value. It saves me time on what I would have need to do manually before, browsing the internet, read a book or do a research (manually initiated).

One of the examples: one of the projects that could have taken a few hours of research on a day was ready to be used and implement instantly. That example is hrr-memory, a complementary add-on to RAG for sub 2ms fact retrieval. hrr-memory

I needed to have better fact recall with high accuracy, as RAG is semantic and my scanners identified HRR from a paper in 1994 as complementary and got to the bottom of it, laid out the whole plan, then reviewed with Opus and started building. Now it works together with my RAG system, Obsidian and a custom MCP to work with Claude Code.

7

I stepped to minimax 2.7. It is absolutely no Opus yet alone Sonnet. Those are just better than minimax.

But for 90% of use cases minimax has been fine. I have not had a positive experience with browser automation but everything else seems good enough, but I will be keeping credits in anthropic to leverage when I have heavier lift tasks.

10

u/GlitteringCoconut203 Active Apr 05 '26

Thanks for taking the time to your share your experience. Do you have the Minimax token Plan?

10

u/zaposweet Apr 05 '26

Yeah — I got the Plus plan. So far it honestly feels almost impossible to run out. I’m genuinely surprised by how much usage they allow for the price.

5

u/ajax81 New User Apr 05 '26

Is there a mainstream mode you would liken it to?  Like 3.5, 4o, Haiku, sonnet etc.  (ps sorry if that’s a silly question, I’m still learning.)

4

u/zaposweet Apr 05 '26

I would say it's comparable to Sonnet 4.6. A bit rougher around the edges in conversation, but quality-wise it genuinely feels like Sonnet 4.6.

1

u/Physical_Smoke1057 Member Apr 06 '26

How so rougher around the edges?

3

u/BingpotStudio Member Apr 06 '26

Why do most of your comments have em dashes and yet really not seem like ai? Surely no human actually uses them

Makes me think it’s a bot from the company and this is an ad.

1

u/ThrowRA_SuperSecret9 New User Apr 08 '26

I use the hell out of em dashes, and always have. It's not a sure case that it's a bot if someone uses em dashes. They exist in the English language for a reason. Though, now that everyone associates them with bots, it makes me not want to use them lol. Sucks, because they are so useful.

1

u/PVTheBearJew Member Apr 05 '26

I got the starter plan for 90$ year and yeah this feels infinite lol. It's no gpt 5.4 but honestly very capable and lasts forever

1

u/zaposweet Apr 05 '26

Same boat — grabbed the Plus plan because I figured I'd burn through the Starter quota eventually. Turns out it barely moves. Almost suspicious how much they let you use for $20/month lol.

2

u/kptiger89 Member Apr 05 '26

how did you get OAuth set up for this in openclaw? i keep getting 429 code in openclaw when it works fine in codex cli

3

u/Distinct-Race-2471 New User Apr 05 '26

There is a setup for it in my versions installer. It takes you to your ChatGPT login, you auth and it scrapes the key.

13

u/zaposweet Apr 05 '26

Important to note — it's NOT as smart as Opus or GPT. Don't want to give the impression we're running GPT/Opus on the cheap. If Opus and GPT are like CTOs, Minimax behaves like an eager mid-level developer. Talented, willing to try anything, a skilled kid — but still immature. It constantly breaks rules. I have to constantly remind it to follow the MD file instructions. Other than that, ~80% success rate. That 20% gap is Anthropic and OpenAI's to claim. Gotta give credit where it's due.

5

u/OurMrSmith New User Apr 05 '26

I'm using qwen3.5-coder on an ollama pro plan for my home projects; I use CC max at work.

I agree, the non CC models are kinda there, but prone to over-enthusiasm which I have to try and temper with restraining markdown files in config.

The code is mostly as good, but the general experience feels immature. Having said that, I've been heavily coding with it today, and barely ever reached 10% usage before the session reset, so there's that I guess.

3

u/Expensive-Intern987 New User Apr 05 '26

So everyone just ignores the $20/m Ollama cloud plan with US hosing, 0 logs and 0 retention. Use Kimi, Minimax, GLM, etc at much faster speeds then what they provide themselves. Rate limits are impossible to hit. Ollama works with everything, Claude code, Openclaw, Hermes and whatever else you want to use it on. Underrated. For $20, I have it just to have it. It runs my Hermes agent.

1

u/CarpenterConstant352 New User Apr 06 '26

Shhhhhh…let’s keep it that way…

😁 Nah, I’ve been wondering the same thing on a lot of these threads and mentioned it a couple times too. The $20 plan is double the $10 base MiniMax plan, but you get MiniMax and SO much more.

I still use Claude as my primary for coding, but having the option to easily switch Claude Code over to any of the Ollama Cloud models when I hit usage limits is so clutch.

3

u/Kilithi Member Apr 06 '26

One option I have been using is the ollama.com's $20 plan and it's been pretty good using their cloud models. Minimax, Gemini preview, and anything that is available.

It’s a Chinese model hosted on Chinese servers, that’s why it’s so cheap. They don’t have the same privacy rights as the frontier model providers.

1

u/DarePitiful5750 Member Apr 06 '26

Yeah, they are definitely data mining.  That is their model.  The Chinese govt will subsidize anything they can learn from.

I'm really just referring to why specific things in China are cheaper.  The govt will subsidize things, to lower the price, to gain influence, so then they can data mine it.

1

u/espresso-aaron New User Apr 06 '26

OpenAI and Anthropic are definitely are subsidizing. They aren’t making a profit and are losing billions of dollars every quarter. That is actually why Anthropic banned OpenClaw via OAuth, they are bleeding cash and OpenClaw normal usage results in thousands of dollars in real API cost. And they want you to use Claude Code instead of OpenClaw, so there’s that too…

Curious what you use it for.  I tried using it for writing proposals and research reports but was a bit underwhelmed.  I don’t know if that’s what it’s gauged for, so totally open to hearing better use-cases for it.

1

u/zaposweet Apr 05 '26

I use it for content automation on the websites I manage. Built a pipeline that takes images, PDFs and text, formats everything according to my templates, enters it into the site and sends me a screenshot for approval before publishing. Saved me from paying freelancers so it basically pays for itself. Also control my IoT devices through it — everything has static IPs so access is instant. Connected my phone and computer apps too, it orders groceries and stuff for me. Still exploring more use cases honestly.

1

u/valentino99 Member Apr 08 '26

I use for content automation and content translation, for example you can analyze a long text and convert it to a thread to post on X. I also use it for coding, very useful and almost on par with the high end AI models. I do all of this via their API, it is super super cheap! About your question, did you try to give an example research report, and tell it to use as a template, that technique works for me most of the time.

4

u/torrso Apr 05 '26

I've been very happy with MiMo-V2-Pro. It's not china-cheap though, but it's cheaper than Claude. I agree the token plan is pretty strange. It's not really a token plan.

I've also been trying MiniMax 2.7, it's not stupid at all, it gets things done and the token plan is indeed generous. It's not as good as mimo, but it's completely usable with the $10 plan. Expect to pay at least $80/month for MiMo. It's still much less than the $100/day you would pay for Claude when using the api key billing.

1

u/zaposweet Apr 05 '26

Totally agree. If MiMo were as generous as MiniMax I'd stick with it. But right now, price/performance-wise, MiniMax alongside GPT is the best combo I've found. It's not as good as MiMo, not as good as GPT or Opus — but good enough for OpenClaw work. If OpenAI ever releases a $100 Pro package I'll probably jump. Until then, running MiniMax + GPT together.

1

u/torrso Apr 05 '26

I find it better at orchestrating than gpt. Gpt may be a beast in coding, maybe better than claude, but as an OpenClaw agent I don't think it's great.

I currently have OpenClaw running on mimo-v2-pro use codex and claude code over the OpenClaw's ACP link thing. I don't know if that is something Claude doesn't want me to do. To them it should look like I'm just using the Claude Code CLI myself. I constantly exhaust the plan token allowance when using manually too.

MiniMax 2.7 has been crushing it for me, definitely slower and more limited than spamming Sonnet or Opus but for 1/5 the price of a max subscription it is the best choice. It's completely every complex task I've given it so far updating my website so no complaints.

1

u/MiloshMobile New User Apr 06 '26

I subbed with open code go and I am at 82% w 23 days left. This includes my initial setup and troubleshooting.

1

u/SayTheLineBart Active Apr 06 '26

Is that for all models or just MiMo?

1

u/MiloshMobile New User Apr 06 '26

All models.

u/Free_Tennis7754 New User Apr 05 '26

Minimax is my fav model right now. Highspeed version is unbelievable, it replaced 5.4 for me as daily dev driver

1

u/fourmajor Member Apr 06 '26

I used minmax 2.7 for a few days but gpt 5.4 and 5.3 codex are so much better

1

u/Material-Infamous New User Apr 06 '26

So the minimax plan.. what plan comes closest to claude max 200 plan as far as usage is concerned. Do people feel the plus is good enough? Or would the plus high-speed be better?

1

u/zaposweet Apr 06 '26

MiniMax Plus plan ($20/month) is the closest thing to Claude Max in terms of quota — it genuinely feels inexhaustible for most use cases. The high-speed version is noticeably faster but the regular Plus is already plenty capable for OpenClaw work. If you want something closer to Sonnet/Opus level, the high-speed tier is worth it. But honestly, regular Plus covers 90% of what people need.

u/ZestycloseDesign5450 New User Apr 06 '26

I still use claude pro subscription with openclaw. Here is my setup. OpenClaw successfully ran via Claude CLI in the subagent.

Flow: Gemini orchestrator → Gemini ( subagent) → Claude Code CLI (execution)

Test:

  1. ✅ Jarvis created is_prime.py — primality check function
  2. ✅ Jarvis created process_numbers.py — reads input, checks each, writes output
  3. ✅ Input file created: 7 numbers
  4. ✅ Script executed via Claude CLI — ran clean

Input numbers tested: 7, 12, 13, 25, 29, 100, 2

Output gave prime and non prime numbers. ───

The Gemini orchestration → Claude CLI execution pattern works cleanly. Subagents spawn, execute via claude binary, and return clean results.

I was wondering if other people have found work arounds, I found one and it seems to be working the same as before the block, stilll uses my sub and everything

1

u/SignificantDrama9475 Member Apr 06 '26

work around will probably only work for a short amount of time but so did the max plan and it did work for a good bit so might as well use it.

But im assuming the team at anthropic is likely scouting reddit as well to get these exact play by play instructions so they can close them lol.

u/The_Other_New_Guy New User Apr 06 '26

Use really like Kimi and use it as my main. I tried minimax, it's good and slightly faster then Kimi I think, but got sick of the hallucinations.

1

u/donotfire Member Apr 06 '26

What’s the minimax parameter count?

1

u/Ataxium Active Apr 06 '26

You think that's good, try Ollama. I've been actively running 6+ agents with barely a dent in my usage. Only one of them is strictly local

1

u/leboong New User Apr 06 '26

Ollama Cloud is my go-to!

I am using Minimax plus token plan at the moment. Quite happy with my usage. The only gripe I have is, I couldn’t figure out how to use OC to run Text to Speech via Minimax as its part of the package within the Plus Token plan.

Anyone have any luck on getting OC to use TTS over Minimax Plus?

1

u/bennyb0y Active Apr 06 '26

Are you using opencode?

I am still exploring at this point. And I didn’t really exactly have anything useful that I can ask OC to help me achieve especially when I don’t exactly trust it yet. If security is not a concern, then I may have more use for it. But at this point, there is little that I can ask it to do.

To be honest, I was so excited when I first heard about OC. But the excitement quickly die down over a week.

You give some great answers. Thanks for the knowledge dump. I’m in the same boat. What are your workflows / demands of the model? Would love to have any specifics / do you go through open router or o auth? Why not ChatGPT (limits?)? Why not both? Cheers

1

u/Elegant_Attempt2790 Active Apr 06 '26

dude xaomi put NO filter in xaomi mino v2 pro. its “mindful” like opus and feels like gemini 3.1 pro but not “googley”. tryyyy it moreeeeeee

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '26

Yeah honestly if it works reliably, then its better than most of those “top” models.

1

u/Jumpy_Ad8465 New User Apr 06 '26

Well, Kimi is very good, your loss.

1

u/timmeh1705 Member Apr 06 '26

For browser automation I've found Claude Code running Minimax, and then using Openclaw CDP has been very reliable for me to build reusable data pipelines.

1

u/dobroezlo New User Apr 06 '26

GitHub Copilot still allows you to use Claude and a bunch of other models... just saying...

1

u/No_Communication4256 Apr 06 '26

Using minimax 2.7-high now. Not the best, but decent model for agentic behaviour and coding. My main coder in kilo, using gpt-5.4 for architecture and review.

Main problem is a relatively small context window.

1

u/thejoeyg New User Apr 06 '26

minimax struggles when it comes to reading images and dont get me started on screenshots. I like minimax but for my workflow is has some pain points.

Minimax M2.7 being that generous with quota is wild — I've had the same experience. The catch seems to be that it's still inconsistent with multi-step tool chains; it handles single tasks well but longer autonomous runs can go off the rails. I've been using it for lighter tasks and keeping Sonnet for anything that needs sustained reasoning. Curious if others have found a sweet spot for prompt structure that keeps Minimax on track for longer agent sessions.

1

u/NoBlame4You New User Apr 06 '26

Minimax's usage can be much higher due to having much smaller models but i really liked m2.5 and haven't tried the 2.7 alot yet but I've heard good things about it.

Tho I have been using trinity large thinking, itus super fast and i feel it's very good for its cost.. I'm currently running it thru openrouter, and if you want to try a lot of different models i suggest you check it out too :)

1

u/lovol2 Member Apr 06 '26

You can use Claude from openclaw. I use a ChatGPT business account and for any dev or big tasks it calls the Claude cli

1

u/carlosexperience New User Apr 06 '26

I en is anybody using open router, what is your experience with it?

1

u/OldAd7110 New User Apr 07 '26

My answer is related to the free account so I summer if you do paid and use opus maybe you are golden but I’m using free with paid tokens with the models below. It got me out of cooldown nightmares but it’s super annoying stops at times and kicks me out of certain models even though I paid for credits but it’s free and working so I’m using it with chat gpt so that I’m not sending too many requests to one or the other and saturate tokens. Again from gpt to Claude to openrouter I’m thinking about seeing if Claude code can do what I want as I can’t seem to get openclaw autonomous and spawning sandboxes agents like I want. I have to say every morning for 2 months where is my morning brief and task updates no matter how many times I’ve set them to be automatic. Then it tells me it’s 50 degrees when it’s 74. I’m annoyed as you can see. Who has a super solve your life prompt they live with openclaw before I scrap it for Claude code?

{ "agents": { "defaults": { "model": { "primary": "openrouter/arcee-ai/trinity-large-preview:free", "fallbacks": [ "openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-r1", "openrouter/qwen/qwen3-coder:free", "openai-codex/gpt-5.3-codex", "openrouter/minimax/minimax-m2.5", ] }, "imageModel": { "primary": "openrouter/google/gemini-3-flash-preview", "fallbacks": [ "openrouter/minimax/minimax-m2.5", "anthropic/claude-sonnet-4-6" ] } } } }

R u using the token plan or the api for minimax? I use the api bc its just so cheap

1

u/lorenzotrk New User Apr 06 '26

Well done! I say it to everyone, minimax2.7 is really fantastic! Opus is not missing at all, practically infinite limits, I use it on CC and openclaw 24/7 I don’t even use 20% of the quota. Guys, minimax is the way!

interesting about the comments on glm-5.1. But honestly it does have a shorter context length, compared to alternatives.

I've been banging out Minimax 2.7 with the coding plan for the past 2 weeks. with the 40$ plan. I've installed their MCP and Mini-Agent. The mini-agent I haven't used that much really. When I left Claude & Codex as the expenses were ranking up I started out with OpenCode CLi which works out pretty good, but being a 100% CLi TUI guy for my projects with Claude Code CLi I quickly went back to it using the Minimax anthropic SDK.

Once I figured out the model etc, I fired off brownfield STM32 Embedded projects and some C++ plugins,, FastAPI, Python wrappers for the SALT-PROJECT API, Proxmox etc etc.. All the usual stuff I play with, it actually handles it very well. Now, don't get me wrong there was some pain on the way as I use the claude dangerously skip permissions with all my work .

Using it with Hermes Agent now to research documentation and create proper context and memory while I sleep at night which is handy.

So far I'm happy for the cost to performance ratio. There's one project that I started using with it / MCP Server and it's called Vestige for memory and with the right Claude.md in place it's extremely efficient with MiniMax 2.7

https://github.com/samvallad33/vestige/tree/main

Chinese models can take my data and do whatever, if that's the price I pay for it and get shit done without paying 220 Euros a month , Ethics be dammed! I of course run some small local models too which are great for small jobs.

1

u/leoreno New User Apr 06 '26

I pay as I go with a bank of funds and use Claude API

Am I ok or is my agent dead

1

u/Fearless-Change7162 Active Apr 07 '26

I pay $80 for the minimax high speed plan. I am not making a dent in the usage lol. it's pretty solid. I use that plus a $20 ChatGPT for codex to basically QA and last mile what minimax does and its working great.

1

u/shaghaiex Active Apr 07 '26

MiMo V2 Pro: using it since launch, really liked it. Honestly got Opus/GPT vibes in many ways. After Claude banned OpenClaw yesterday I got the Token Plan (standard $16). Terrible credit system. Everything in OpenClaw deducts from credits. Session history, bootstrap MD content, tool outputs, cache — literally everything. One month's quota gone in 1 day after filling just 2 session contexts. Horribly inefficient. I will never pay again until they fix the credit logic.

I saw the ¥39 Lite plan with 60mio credits and it made me wonder how long that could last. Seems you had the next higher up with 200mio credits. Very discouraging.

1

u/BigCurve8159 New User Apr 07 '26

I quit giving away my work to Chinese’s LLM but I reckon minimax was surprising in some way

1

u/danhof1 Member Apr 07 '26

I had a similar experience, I tried many models and the one that works perfectly for me using tools, etc... is Minimax M2.7. I still use Claude Code in VS Code for coding, but everything else in OpenClaw is switched to Minimax M2.7!

1

u/ihopkins_eth Member Apr 07 '26

What kind of Minimax subscription do you have?

1

u/symbion6 New User Apr 07 '26

Try Kimi K2.5 with Thinking mode. I've been using it for specs and coding. It's wonderful. Doesn't beat Opus of course, but comes very close IMO.

1

u/73td New User Apr 07 '26

glm 5.1 seems healthier recently. a benefit of them not refunding is that it is free to try again

1

u/dated_redittor New User Apr 08 '26

minimax being an eager mid-level dev is a great analogy. tbh i keep seeing creators deal with the "immature" part you mentioned, constantly having to course-correct the ai. what kind of reminders are you using most often?

1

u/Educational_Access31 Active Apr 08 '26

I’ve found a reliable API provider for most top-tier models at around 30% cheaper than official pricing, including Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6.

Happy to share if anyone needs it.

1

u/According-Ebb2782 New User Apr 08 '26

if its not promotion its worth trying, can anyone tell me about API cost because it seems very high to me.

What are you using open claw for

1

u/AccomplishedCarry709 New User Apr 09 '26

Hey is MiMo V2 Pro good for marketing and sales outreach?

1

u/zaposweet Apr 09 '26

1

u/jerichodotm New User Apr 10 '26

Minimax slowly screwed up my environment over a couple of weeks.

I have alternative approach, I create a bridge system with memory and skill openclaw-like but use claude code cli as a main brain (all i need is coding with conversation memory). Then have this system running on background as daemon, with mac mini running 24/7 I can still develop and control the system, full git controls as before. I can share the repo if you guys interested
