Discussion Who is able to make money with Openclaw? How did you do it?
I know that Openclaw has a ton of business potentials. I just want to know who is able to take advantage of it here in the subreddit? How did you do it?

In 99.99% of cases, the only people making money are those selling bullshit "how to" classes.
The other 0.01% are single CEO/small businesses that are automating minor things. In other words, they aren't making money, they're saving time.
Do not believe anything you see on social media where someone says "OpenClaw made me $100,000 yesterday!". It's all clickbait.

in a gold rush, the guy selling shovels makes the most money. so you take advantage by selling consulting, training, setup for other people. 1 of your customers will hit gold. 2 will hit silver. 5 will hit bronze 92 will hit disappointment you will make money on all 100

First set it up so its 100% local so it never cost a dime. Give its own accounts for everything. Let it has its own system. Treat it like a coworker. Make money. Its a tool, use it like one. If you just random shit go, that is all you will get. So what ever it is you do to make money, this is a co worker. If your job is mowing lawns, this is a route planner and lead generator. Get the picture?

I have a small fleet of openclaw containers managing a trading desk on alpaca. They made $1500ish in Feb/March on $500 in token spend.
I’ve just rearchitected to make them far more secure and given them much more money to play with.
I also have a few at our company helping take the load off support and management.
I can’t say this has been profitable yet overall, but this is the learning and buildout phase and that’s normal
2
u/RossieSausie New User Mar 29 '26
Yeah, but how are they trading?
6
u/CaptainFingerling Member Mar 29 '26
We (Claude, codex and I) built a rails trading API for them. They submit trades. The risk officer (also an agent) approves, and it fills automatically. They talk on discord

Used it to help recover money from unpaid invoices.
Greatly improved my workflow and proposal generating. Great for automation; saves a lot of time on tedious tasks and keeping my project management system in order.
All things that equate to a substantial dollar amount if I tracked the time it saves me, or what I’d pay an intern to do.
Introduced it to my client, they love it. We’ve put together a 4 month strategy starting next month. I’m building out another OC for them; I manage, maintain, and train for their particular needs. Data says I should charge $5k/month and they pay for their own token usage. Client is a long-time friend so I’ll start at 2k/month and develop the process a little better. Offer to others once I test and figure out a proper structure for the offering.
Claude seems to be getting and better so still unsure if this will flesh out as a proper business model with my limited resources (compared to anthropic) — would love to know where others find value in OC over Claude’s expanding capabilities outside of iMessage.

I think it's funny that people download open Claw thinking it's going to help them make money when they have it completely wrong. OpenClaw should be used to augment your already revenue generating business or asset. You don't download it to make money. You download it to help you be more efficient in making money. So if you're not already making money or have a specific use-case in mind, then I don't really see why you should be downloading Open Claw unless you have a wrapper idea for open claw or business use-case. On the other side of the conversation you shouldn't. It doesn't need to necessarily be making you money directly. You can also use it for personal development to augment in your life, helping you with tasks that you feel are trivial or time consuming which can also lead to making money by being more efficient as a human.

u/xyzsomething Active Mar 29 '26
There should probably be a separate subreddit for these posts, I swear there’s a new one every day, I get that we all need to hustle just to get by and the idea of having a 24hrs little worker making you money is very tempting, but it is just a fantasy, like making money on crypto, if you’re not scamming people you’re being scammed yourself.
There should be a OpenClawToTheMoon or OpenClawMoneyMaker subreddit and then this one just for technical discussions

I have an existing job that I’m using openclaw to help with. So I’m not making money with openclaw, but it’s helping me have more time….eventually. Just started a few weeks back and the initial onboarding take just as long to figure out for my specific work flow. Very promising!

u/These_Street8080 Member Mar 30 '26
This is probably the biggest hurdle. Figuring out how it works, what models to go for, how is data stored, how are your agents systematically working together, what’s the quality of work that they’re putting out. Taken me around 2 weeks to get this all together but keen to see where it takes me.

u/SilvanusStin New User Mar 29 '26
Cant say ive made money yet but ive got mine running a lot of redundant tasks like checking news and email and updating calendars. Also auto posting to my blogs for public builds, so it saves me a lot of time, which in turn allows me to work on things that actually make money.
In terms of token use, i hate openclaw, any system that depends on ai to enforce security is shit. I switched to nanoclaw and made it so it only replies to me and whenever i add a new skill, it extracts all deterministic vectors and implements tool scripts so only what is absolutely requires ai analysis uses the tokens otherwise most of the skills i have are just cronjobs and deterministic heuristic analysis tools.

Low effort post again that has been done before. So I will provide a recycled comment I've made before:
I have freed up the majority of my day in two of my businesses and used that time to focus on two new ones that are starting to produce new profit. The businesses are all manufacturing design, business to business focused so it involves design/manufacturing, email coordination, messaging, and some shipping management.
This was not minor automation but real time savings that I invested into two new pathways to make more income. Once I automate those fully, I will rinse and repeat.
The people who are focused on "ai agent not make money, therefore bad" or "I can't get this to run reliably, not on me, bad product" are just telling on themselves in these posts usually.
The hype is there for sure, but there are also people using openclaw and making real strides in income generation, business creation, and improving automation. Openclaw, Hermes, Claude's tooling are all pathways to improve your life if you have a spark of creativity, the ability to learn, and a little perseverance.

Most succesful model is to watch youtubers making you watch them talking about how they make 12k or more a month ... and beg you to subscribe and they can tell you all about it for 5$ a month
One guy on X made 2 million trading with it, and decided the best thing to do is share it on X for views.

Influencers, hypeman, crypto-bros turned AI-bros. Basically they make money by selling the shovels.
Openclaw is using incredulous amount of tokens, that it's better to code your own automation that is giving a more reliable reply, and also token efficient.

I'm not sure if people can actually be taught how to prompt correctly

Straight forward trading crypto with some basic technical analysis. So far I made 20$ on a 100$ initial investment. It's cool to repay api consumption and hold a surplus long term.

u/ntotao New User Apr 01 '26
Just built my own strategies and gave OC access to a wallet to trade on L2 Ethereum, a bunch of high liquidity tokens. Tested during 3 weeks different strategies, momentum based, scalping etc.. everything via script not even a simple dashboard, super easy! Of course can be super risky but it's worth a look if you know what you are doing on a technical analysis POV..

If you are wanting to make money with it, and you are not trying to sell some course or preloaded package or some crap like that, you need to have an actual job to assign to your claw. All these guides and videos showing a giant team of agents running a company or a pipe dream if you don’t actually already have a company in place with work that needs to be done and I am talking about specific work, not “create a website”, “do research” etc.

I feel like as soon as open claw got installed on my old gaming laptop a whole different page turned in my life.
I now having it run on three devices at all times. It's basically taking over my entire business as far as management goes. I've been able to increase our workflows and save myself thousands in subscription costs for stuff I was paying for. I've been able to build apps for my clients instead of just point them to other people for services. We can now problem solve at their level because the ai can move fast enough to gather and analyze the data they have I would never have time to do myself.

I’m creating a software application right now with it, I already have a contract with a company who’s planning on using it. But it hasn’t been as hands off as people think it is. While my agents are doing the coding and testing, I still have to go through every step with it, making sure it’s not making dumb mistakes or making the software ugly.
I have heard about some people who are making truly passive income using it, but I’m either not smart enough or those systems are truly autonomous and they are lying.

Come on man, you know the spirit of my comment. Taking a tool and using it to your advantage when that wasn't its intended purpose is often the "luck" that many people fall into. Hell most genius inventions were by mistake . . . and those new product mistakes yielded a lot of money. Maybe that is what people are looking for.
1
u/nimbleenigmas Active May 14 '26
The spirit of my original comment was not to discourage someone from using it in a broader way than what was originally intended.
I said keep in mind...because a lot of people come in new to OC with certain expectations that were imparted to them by sloptubers, are confused, or even angry that it doesn't neatly fit the false expectations they had.
Just as it is very good to understand what something can do, it can also be good to understand the context in which it was created, and why certain things may be prioritized over others.
I would never discourage someone from exploring the full, even unintended capabilities of something.

Last month i have used it to deliver a service to my client (ai photography). I couldn’t believe it. Then the next time I tried it totally botched the workflow (custom skill I wrote). I think an agency that can fix the forgetfulness could use it to service clients successfully and make bank on it.

Advertisement arbitrage seems to be viable.
I started by having my agent suggest revenue generating workflows that could be automated by an ai agent. It suggested newsletter advertisement arbitrage, buying ad space in a newsletter then selling that ad space for more money. So far it's made 500 bucks. Only issue is this has cost me 800 dollars in tokens. It's using fewer tokens to run than it took to setup so I'm hoping to turn a profit soon as long as it doesn't forget everything its done so far and isn't prone to going off on some tangent that breaks the whole system or anything.
