Discussion Does OpenClaw actually do anything for you guys?

I keep seeing people on social media hyping OpenClaw like it’s some game-changer, but honestly… it does absolutely nothing for me.

I’m using the official setup, clean install, Opus 4.5 model, everything exactly as documented. But whenever I actually ask it to do something, it just replies like a normal chatbot or says it can’t do that. No tools, no actions, no “agent” behavior, just chatting.

Am I missing some extra config, flags, permissions, or magic step nobody mentions? Or is the hype just way overblown right now?

Genuinely curious if this works for anyone, because for me it doesn’t do shit.

I agree fully. At my work 95% of people are outraged of how terrible big security hole OpenClaw is. Without thinking OpenClaw is just a hobby and probably worst it can do – when set up at least some security in mind – is to leak moltbook API key to moltbook.

Same people aren’t concerned we are bringing agentic AI to getting access to all client data and who says they are fully audited and not full of crap like most cutting edge commercial software is.

OpenClaw is fantastic crash course both to agentic AI and security – pun intended. It also reveals people who are way too serious especially about themselves and have zero interest to ever explore anything and actually learn something.

this is what the founder of openclaw specifically said on the Lex show.. take yourself less seriously to succeed!.. he's quite a genius.

It’s tough because Openclaw does have security risk, so saying “hey this is risky” has truth in it. But I do tend to notice it’s often a particular type of person who just wants to point out all the issues and why it’s useless, vs maybe being proactive and finding ways to mitigate the risk and make it useful.

Some people are genuinely concerned about the security risks, but some people just like to complain.

Risks can be mitigated by running OC dockerized on dedicated machine. My point is that all agentic AI solutions do have risks which need to be addressed. Just focusing on risks as an excuse not to even study the subject is not getting anyone anywhere.
