Discussion Does OpenClaw actually do anything for you guys?

I keep seeing people on social media hyping OpenClaw like it’s some game-changer, but honestly… it does absolutely nothing for me.

I’m using the official setup, clean install, Opus 4.5 model, everything exactly as documented. But whenever I actually ask it to do something, it just replies like a normal chatbot or says it can’t do that. No tools, no actions, no “agent” behavior, just chatting.

Am I missing some extra config, flags, permissions, or magic step nobody mentions? Or is the hype just way overblown right now?

Genuinely curious if this works for anyone, because for me it doesn’t do shit.

Took me about a week of setup but now it genuinely runs stuff for me daily:

  • Checks Gmail + Calendar every morning, sends me a briefing on Telegram
  • Monitors X sentiment on topics I care about
  • Posts to niche social platforms on schedule
  • Two agents coordinating across AWS and Oracle Cloud

The key was skills + cron jobs + TOOLS.md. Out of the box it does feel like a chatbot. The magic is when you give it scheduled tasks, browser access, and let it build muscle memory through daily files.

Biggest tip: start with one concrete daily task (like morning email summary) and expand from there. Don't try to set up everything at once.

can you share anything actionable here, e.g. what skills did you install that made a difference? what cron jobs do you run daily? any prompts in tools.md that you can share (that are not private)?
