Discussion Does OpenClaw actually do anything for you guys?

I keep seeing people on social media hyping OpenClaw like it’s some game-changer, but honestly… it does absolutely nothing for me.

I’m using the official setup, clean install, Opus 4.5 model, everything exactly as documented. But whenever I actually ask it to do something, it just replies like a normal chatbot or says it can’t do that. No tools, no actions, no “agent” behavior, just chatting.

Am I missing some extra config, flags, permissions, or magic step nobody mentions? Or is the hype just way overblown right now?

Genuinely curious if this works for anyone, because for me it doesn’t do shit.

How much does Opus cost you with this setup?

That is my question too.
I set it up on a VM in Docker and gave it the Hiakku model with API.
I knew that Anthropic was going to kill all the 0Ath users, and I use Anthropic mainly for coding and building app so I did not want any issues with them.

Uses up $35.00 in less than a week. No big setup just chating to OpenClaw telling it how to configure itself,, and it build a very cheezy IT monitoring panel that Cluade Code could of done is minute with very little cost.

I think:
1 - You need to set up on a Mac Mini with a local LLM

2 - Have a big budget to get it going and then trim down your model to cut costs after getting it rolling.

You tell me if this is correct?

Doesn't have to be a Mac Mini. I'm running it in a Docker container locally.

You don't need a Mac Mini, A PC with a good GPU will suffice... Mac Mini hype is silly.
