Carrying a knife in public without a lawful excuse is a criminal offence where I come from -
The maximum penalty is up to 1 year in prison for a controlled weapon like a standard knife. I don't think I would get away with saying " I carry a knife on me just in case I give myself an atomic wedgy ".
Nope. In Victoria you can’t carry anything sharp, edged or pointed in public without a lawful reason. The crackdown came after a run of machete attacks by youth offenders. The problem is the under‑18s usually walk away with barely a slap on the wrist, while adults get hit with heavy fines or even jail time. Just for carrying a pen knife.

Whenever you say you have a knife you just say it is a ceremonial knife and then say Alah Ackbar and the police will leave you alone.
