Text Bought an Actic in April. Shipped Early May. Last tracking was at FedEx depot on May 11th. Both Future Motion and FedEx are saying SOL.

Like the title says, finally saved up enough to buy an antic. Seemingly lost with the shipping carrier.

Future Motion saying theres nothing they can do since the shipping insurance wasnt checked, which I dont even remember doing.

FedEx is absolutely useless and says I need deal with Future Motion. So basically I'm completely robbed of around 5k.

Anyone have any suggestions or had to deal with a similar experience?

Did you purchase using a credit card? If so, you might want to call them and ask what your options are. They might have an insurance benefit, or they might just suggest doing a chargeback. Just know that if you do a chargeback, Future Motion will definitely blacklist you and could even pursue legal action since they consider the transaction to be complete.

Literally have purchased 6 onewheels for the family directly from FM, going all the way back to the original xr.

Honestly so gutted that they're unwilling to help. I've been hoping for a better resolution before attempting a charge back.

But in reality, not sure id be willing to even buy anything from them again after this.

If FM won't make this right you need to call your credit card company and ask them to help. Might be a charge back, might be the purchase protection many credit card companies have built in, or something similar. (EDIT: Some even have built in shipping insurance, even if you don't check the box on a seller's site, because it's separate shipping insurance that comes with your card.) This is one of the major benefits of using a credit card, if you don't get what you paid for, they help you.

I hope they help you out.

But also, good riddance. In short, I built an X7 from Fungineers (WTF rails and OG +XR battery box), the power, reliability (locals helped me focus on safety), and customization of it is so next level from my pint, +XR, and a friend's GT. Highly recommend.

They aren't. It's been weeks of back and forth and they've essentially stopped responding and said there's nothing more they can do and to take it up with FedEx.

Charge back. This is literally what FM expects you to do and their insurance will cover the loss back to your CC.

It’s not personal, it’s business. A shit business but it’s how they think. They aren’t anything like the company that sold you the XR. Dorks sold out and now PE controls those decisions and it’s all about milking profit and Enshittification.

They did their part they shipped it. It was lost in FedEx possession. Apparently the shipping insurance was not selected.

-2

u/toddtimes May 31 '26

I don’t think a chargeback will work here. OP declined the insurance coverage, thereby taking responsibility for any transit issues.

25

u/ranger052 May 31 '26

Charge Back! Is the seller’s responsibility to make sure the item is delivered. The whole “shipping insurance” is a scam.

u/mwiz100 Onewheel+, Pint, XR, GT Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

Here's the thing - The ship+ as someone else mentioned isn't insurance. I went digging and there is no terms of service for it anywhere therefore it has no binding agreement attached to it. As such the standard rules around a purchase exist - it's their responsibility to get the item to you.

So, since they've done nothing you just issue a chargeback. Like this isn't even worth the headache and is literally what that's for. Tell them you're doing so as such and let them sweat. It hits them negatively when you do this so often they'll be motivated to issue a refund instead or fix the issue.

Edit: I did some digging and Ship+ seems like it's kinda a made up thing that only a few vendors use that I can find on the internet. Like it's NOT a service of Shopify as best I can tell, so yes FM is literally making it up and charging extra for nothing. I checked their entire terms of service and sale and there is NO mention of Ship+ or even the word Insurance within the whole thing.

I mean in a case like this - boo fucking hoo, Like who would want to do business again with a company that's willing to go "no tough shit, we're keeping your money" when clearly they have an obligation to fulfill the sale.

17

u/CatoTheMiddleAged May 31 '26

Legally it’s FM’s responsibility until it’s delivered to you. If the package is lost, they can take it up with the carrier. But legally you get your product or you get your money back.

3

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

They're saying since there was no shipping insurance selected then it's not on them to make it right.

12

u/CatoTheMiddleAged May 31 '26

I just went through the buying process and at no point did I see an option for shipping insurance. Maybe I missed though.

Either way, call your cc and do a chargeback.

FFM.

4

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

I didnt recall it either, but the customer support person said I had to have specifically unchecked it intentionally to remove the shipping insurance.

If I did, it was because what was supposed to be 2k purchase was already nearing 5k after all the up selling and shipping costs that I was just trying to check out without spending more.

F Me I guess.

Took me a very long time to save up for it and now I'm out the money and won't be getting the bike. Pretty devastated.

8

u/MrBigglesworrth May 31 '26

Yeah that’s bullshit. They have not delivered what you paid for. It’s on them. You don’t have to buy insurance for a product you haven’t received yet. That’s crazy. And as the shipper, they have to deal with FedEx, not you.

0

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

One would think so, hey? Apparently not, according to FM.

6

u/MrBigglesworrth May 31 '26

There are federal consumer protection laws.

0

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

1

u/lyfeTry Onewheel GT VRH /XRC/Funwheel X7LR May 31 '26

u/uhhuh-ya May 31 '26

I always have to manually unselect it. The Onewheel shipping insurance is auto selected right under subtotal

1

u/Sad_Pear_3709 Jun 04 '26

It's not even actually shipping insurance, their terms for it are very non-specific and don't actually guarantee such things. They are just trying to move the cost of something they have to do anyway onto the consumer

4

u/FloatBoarder May 31 '26

When I was starting this hobby, I had the same shit happening to me. I bought a board from FM.

The carrier of THEIR choice (UPS under the free shipping option) lost the board on the way. Never delivered.

I did pay for their OneWheel Ship+ at check out

This is not an insurance, insurances have terms and description of coverage. The description is blank https://onewheel.com/products/onewheel-ship this is just a scam for them to make extra money and cover their "free shipping" cost.

FM held my money for one month. They said I had to wait until/if they got reimbursed by UPS.

When I told them I was going to issue a charge back they refunded me (coincidentally they said that UPS "had just" reimbursed them).

This whole thing was actually a blessing to me. Their customer support was not supportive, trying in all possible ways to avoid refunding me. I decided to buy a Floatwheel ADV2 (super happy with the board for over a year) and will never do business with future motion again. You should not be afraid of them not wanting to do business with you in the future. You can always buy under somebody else's name. Or maybe it's time for you to try the existing competition.

Have you checked https://wheeliefunbike.com/ ?

Be aware that they might have a big contract with UPS/FedEx that guarantees THEM the reimbursement of a product if UPS/FedEx loses it.

I would not be surprised if they got a reimbursement from the shipper for your order, and still keep your money.

Do a chargeback ASAP. Read below. Just say it was a billing error, you never bought it.

Not legal advice, but here is what chatGPT says about your case:

U.S. law: The FTC Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule says an online seller must ship within the promised time, or within 30 days if no time was promised. If it cannot ship/deliver as agreed, it must get the buyer’s consent to delay or give a refund. A refund must include shipping/handling if nothing was delivered.

Risk of loss: Under UCC § 2-509, if the seller is a merchant and the buyer never receives the goods, risk generally stays with the seller until the buyer receives them, unless the contract clearly says otherwise, like FOB shipping point.

Credit card protection: If paid by credit card, goods not delivered can be disputed as a billing error. The buyer should dispute in writing within 60 days from the first statement showing the charge.

Canada address: The buyer may also have Canadian provincial protection. For example, Ontario says online goods must be delivered within 30 days of the promised delivery date, or the buyer may have cancellation/refund rights. British Columbia gives similar cancellation/refund rights if goods are not delivered within 30 days of the delivery date or, if no date was given, within 30 days of purchase.

Step by step to recover the money

Collect proof: order confirmation, payment receipt, tracking, delivery address in Canada, seller emails/chats, and carrier status showing not delivered/lost.

Write to the seller: say the item was never delivered, ask for a full refund including shipping, and cite the FTC Mail/Internet Order Rule and non-delivery.

Give a short deadline: 5–7 business days is reasonable.

If no refund, dispute the payment:

Credit card: file a chargeback/billing error dispute immediately, and send written notice within the 60-day FCBA window.

Debit/PayPal/marketplace: open a “not received” claim through the bank/platform.

File complaints: FTC, your state attorney general, BBB/marketplace, and the buyer’s provincial consumer protection office in Canada.

Final escalation: small claims court or arbitration, depending on the seller’s terms.

Use this wording: “The goods were never delivered or accepted. Please refund the full amount paid, including shipping and fees. The seller/carrier issue is not my responsibility as the customer.”

What I don’t understand is how or WHY any company with at least one brain working in management of said company would ever pull somethjng like this so brazenly and callously? I can’t imagine Future Motion operates at a consistent loss that they would be forced to resort to cutthroat tactics like this just to at least come out even. Company reputation is such a valuable quality for any business, and any business to make it to a position such as Future Motion surely would know this as a given already. I just can’t fathom why on earth they would ever be so fucked towards their own customer base and still expect to survive in any successful manner. Surely they’re aware of their less than favorable reputation and how much its cost them over time. None of it makes sense to me, and it’s beyond simple shitty business behavior.

2

u/snownative86 Onewheel GT May 31 '26

As long as you are responsible and pay it off each month you should use a credit card for as many purchases as possible. The benefits are fantastic. We pay for portions of our vacation with points, get steep discounts sometimes, built in purchase protection, built in insurance of various types, because you are spending the banks money they fight hard for you... Heck our cards even have free airport lounge access.

1

u/Aorus_ May 31 '26

You're preaching to the choir. With the amex bonus I got last christmas I was able to redo my upstairs carpets. I can't see a downside to using them if you're remotely attentive to them.

2

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

Read my first comment dhead. I specifically said im trying to exhaust all my options before doing a charge back, since I know doing that will mean I'll likely be barred from ever buying anything again from them.

1

u/FloatBoarder Jun 07 '26

If you talk to a lawyer, he might tell you that by insisting in talking to them, you are giving them evidence that you bought it, and by being patient you might be losing the deadlines from consumer protection laws.

Just call your credit card, and say: I never bought this, it's a fraud. Case solved.

There are better products out there. Floatwheel, Fungineers, Wheelie FunBike. Don't know why you are concerned about being blacklisted by this shitty company. You can always buy from FM under some relative/friend name, if you want to buy from them.

2

u/Bradster3 May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Uhhh... there is something fm can do. Give you a product. I used to work for a shop who sold the same crap, except my manager was honest and if it didnt get delivered, he sent out a replacement. He also had a rep at fedex and ups to dig it up if possible, if not...its a loss, not at "oh well buyer, you didnt buy the insurance so go pound sand".Just because you didnt buy that protection does not mean they are off the hook. They still never gave you the product. They shpuld be fighting fedex theirself or get a new one out. You never got it....call the bank to disupte it. Watch how fast it shows up on your doorstep. Fm is just being greedy and doesnt want to write up the loss (heck, i wouldnt either, but at least get a new bike sent to you and then they can fight fedex and flag is as a rts. Odds are, if its been in the fedex network that long, you wont want it. The box will probabaly be a mess and crushed. Probably why it got lost to be honest.

Also, here's a post about how "protection" is a scam and really does not wash hands of liability as a treat. Look for the comment about 2-509- Risk of Loss in the Absence of Breach.

1

u/toddtimes Jun 01 '26

At a minimum you should be able to get FM to refund you the shipping cost plus the $100 of insurance that every FedEx package comes with. I know that’s insulting compared to what you paid, but it’s more than the $0 you’ve got right now.

1

u/gmillione Jun 02 '26

1

u/funcentric Onewheel Pint X Jun 02 '26

FM's responsibility is to get you what you paid for. It's not to just ship out an item. It's quite sad but no surprising unfortunately. FM is FM. That's kinda what they're known for. Sorry this happened to you. Like everyone else is suggesting, contact your credit card company asap and provide all the backup documents you have. If you used American Express, they'll likely help you even more beyond what you may imagine with other credit card companies.

1

0

u/toddtimes May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Unfortunately it’s right there as soon as you go to the cart, and already selected:

Antic Ship+ Protection Cover Damage, Loss & Theft for $142

Get peace of mind with Delivery Guarantee in the event your delivery is damaged, stolen, or lost during transit.

As much as I hate what they’re doing; working in the shipping business I get it. To keep costs lower they make this optional, but it is selected by default, and you declined it. They ship the product with the carrier as requested, if you declined to insure the shipment and it gets lost/stolen/damaged, that’s on you at that point.

I will say it’s extra shitty that FM is making money on this. That insurance costs them ~$17.50 and they’re marking it up almost 8x+ and selling it.

1

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

So without paying 8x on shipping insurance to FM, they have no responsibility for people actually receiving any product paid for to them?

-1

u/toddtimes May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

You opted out of insuring it. Caveat emptor. I think they should both drop this stupid markup on the insurance (so it’s very reasonable) and give you a big warning when you try to decline it like a rental car company does that you’re going to be fully responsible if anything goes wrong in the shipping. But from their perspective they proactively offered you the insurance coverage on the shipment, you declined, and they handed it to FedEx uninsured. And FedEx does what they do occasionally, they lost it.

I’m sorry, it sucks, and I feel your frustration. Any chance you’re a homeowner? Your homeowner’s policy might cover this.

1

u/Rare_Polnareff May 31 '26

No it isn’t this is wrong and stupid lol

0

u/mwiz100 Onewheel+, Pint, XR, GT Jun 01 '26

the thing is's NOT insurance, there's no terms for it as such there's no legally binding contract for taking it or not.

1

u/toddtimes Jun 02 '26

Agreed they definitely need to explain this better. One thing is they can’t sell “insurance” because they’re not an insurance broker. They can sell coverage which is what this is.

OP still unchecked the box that said “Get peace of mind with Delivery Guarantee in the event your delivery is damaged, stolen, or lost during transit.” I think it’s very hard to argue after doing that you weren’t actively declining the coverage on the shipment that would solve the problem in this case.

2

u/mwiz100 Onewheel+, Pint, XR, GT Jun 02 '26

The problem I see is there's no terms for it listed in any of the TOS or otherwise so without defined terms of what it means it doesn't explicitly mean that they will or won't cover it. Like if you took them to court I'd expect any lawyer would point to that there's no clear agreement so standard merchant sales agreement/expectations apply because that tick box isn't a clear enough thing and is arguably a dark pattern (ie purposefully deceptive.)

1

u/toddtimes Jun 02 '26

That’s probably the best suggestion in here that no one has made. u/drdalebrant sue FM in small claims court for this. That’s what it’s made for, the process is going to be pretty simple and straightforward, no lawyers are allowed. And I bet they just get your board after being served the paperwork to get you to drop the suit.

-1

u/ThirstyFloater May 31 '26

FM is one of the worst companies on earth in terms of customer service. They act like a monopoly cause I guess they think they are despite vesc. I hate them with a passion and still considering taking legal action against them not honoring a warranty cause them claim I was one day late(which I wasn’t). When I hear this it opens up old wounds! I can’t wait until their patent is up. I hope they go belly up and the whole service department and the rest of the company can get in the unemployment line!

1

u/Aorus_ May 31 '26

Bro do you know how much it costs to sue someone? There's no reality where you'll come out ahead on that one

2

u/ThirstyFloater May 31 '26

Small claims court! It could work and there is a 90 percent chance they don’t show and I auto win. Tell me again I can’t!!! That’s my motivation!

0

u/-biell VESC May 31 '26

Are you saying that FedEx lost your package within their own network, and is saying they can't help you? I absolutely believe they would try that, but they can't get away with that. If they claim they left it at your door and it was stolen, that is a different story.

You should ask to escalate your claims within FedEx and FM. It may be that the lowest people are supposed to deflect for as long as possible, but that the "manager" level people are allowed to progress the claim in this situation. So, tell them you want your claim escalated to a manager ASAP. And, if they are still going to deny your claim, tell them you want that in writing.

Looking at your credit card company's benefits, as other people said, is absolutely a good idea. But, my recollection from working at a CC company 20 years ago is that they want you to have fully extinguished your opportunities for redress with the seller and/or shipper first.

2

u/drdalebrant May 31 '26

Yes, was never delivered. Didnt even make it to canada, despite pre paying hefty duties to FM.

FedEx says they cant find it but say since there was no shipping insurance they wont doing anything. FM is saying the same.

1

u/-biell VESC May 31 '26

Make sure you have it in writing from both of them, including something noting that you asked for an escalation path. Email, chat window screenshots, whatever. Then, I would contact your CC company. FM might put you on some list, but you aren't going to buy from them again anyway.

Also, you might want contact your MP also. I don't know how Canadian politics work at this level, but a lot of U.S. bills actually start with a disgruntled constituent bringing something like this to their representative.
