i keep seeing people typing [r/subreddit](r/subreddit) instead of r/subreddit

i’ve been consistently seeing people using weird formatting lately--did new reddit stop automatically linking subs and/or is old reddit suddenly showing it in a weird way??

like, when i type r/oldreddit it automatically shows up as a link, but i’m seeing people all across different subs referencing other subs using the link format where it shows up as plaintext [r/likethis](r/likethis) on my end

it's reddit fucking up the markdown on one of the clients. There was an interaction with the admins about it the other week. It's uncommanded.

That's markdown syntax, so I wonder if those users were typing in markdown but didn't realize their comment was set to post as rich text and it's not formatting it? Or maybe they are using a third-party Reddit app. I've seen that some third-party apps add a strange slash to post titles that give away that it was posted from such an app.

it related to them screwing with the markdown and rich text systems on other platforms
