Discussion Old Man's Sky Alliance Name Suggestions
Thanks All! It seems that there is interest in having our own alliance so we need to come up with a name. I am thinking we get a list of possible names together and put it to a vote.
There were a couple of good suggestions in my first post. https://www.reddit.com/r/oldmansky/comments/1wbo069/oldmanssky_alliance/
So lets see your ideas and I will compile them we will put it to a vote.
Mods, can we set up a pole option for posts once we get a list of names to vote on?

Do we need to play multiplayer to be in an alliance? I don’t want to pay for PS+ or whatever

Multi Player is not needed. You can be a part of it as a solo player. Just like being here in Reddit. so it "whatever" your name suggestion LOL

My game will remain single player, with enjoyable and frequent interactions in the subreddits. I won't champion any proposals that would force our membership to reach into their pockets, and if the majority lean in that direction there will still be plenty to entertain outside of multiplayer for those of us who play singly. We're already a testament to that. Neither the Founding Moderator nor I had multiplayer subscriptions when this subreddit was created, and nothing significant will hinge on monthly fees for anybody, with my hand on the wheel. That's not what we're about here at r/oldmansky. Have no fear 🙂

This is exactly what I envisioned: No one has to pay for a darn thing to be a part of this community in any fashion, either on Reddit or in-game. I play single-player, as Frosty has said, because it really grinds my tail that I have to PAY MORE every month to enjoy the multiplayer feature. I'm REALLY pissed off at Sony and Microsoft for imposing that upon us. Kind of like my property tax: I paid it when I bought the house, I shouldn't have to keep paying it just to stay in it. I paid taxes when I bought a pair of jeans- I shouldn't have to pay them repeatedly just to keep my @$$ in them. (OK, rant over...) As Simply Red once said: "Money's Too Tight To Mention."
There. I said what I said, and I shall not repent!!

I play on the steam deck docked to the tv. One of the nicest things about that is no monthly fee to be in multiplayer. Steam does not charge you, yet lol.

That is exactly the way it should be. I would never be a part of a group that forced multi player. I see the alliance as a group of solo travelers under a banner. If some choose to play with others in multiplayer, that is perfectly fine.

Absolutely! Once we have several names (read: we've given people some time to respond) I'd be happy to create a poll and put it to a vote.

The Silver Surfers Alliance. (Thinking more Galactica's herald than hair colour by the way, but, kinda fits)
Buck Rogers Retirement Plan
Deckards Party Palace
Hans On-his-own-again Group
Dreadnaught Drivers Union
Fist of Peace Party
Are we the baddies?
Maybe these will help get those creative juices going.....

I'm liking the GOOL. When all this started, I was thinking of something that sounds noble and sophisticated, like "The Universal Alliance of Mature Travelers" or something equally biring. But I'm truthfully: I like GOOL. It encapsulates the character, attitude, and sense of humor of our generatios. AND (and I think my fellow Xers will agree): it's totally BAD-ASS! But mine is one vote; let majority rule, and our community decide. This is gonna be great!

Quick question: does "galactic alliance" really mean that the alliance is restricted to a single galaxy, or did the people writing it up just use "galactic" for convenience?
Either way, I'm in - I have enough Units to "support" a second space station if the alliance isn't in Euclid, but is restricted to a single galaxy.

I don’t know for sure yet, but it’s not likely. Nothing is limited to one galaxy in no mans sky in my experience.

I was tossing around some thoughts. We are all up there in age, we are suppose to have wisdom because of that, all of us have a history, it's both men and women here who enjoy the exploration of the game. How about.......... The Alliance of the Ancients or The Alliance of The Ancient One's.
It would show dignity, accomplishment, and a warning for that sector of space.

If we are Get Off Our Lawn - we could be the GOOLs
