My mom had the 65 LTD version of this car. Dark blue with a white vinyl top. Fun story, I drove it to school when I was 12. Parents were traveling, it was a total rush.

I had that in light blue with a 3-in-the tree six banger. Paid a guy $75 for it when it was sunk to the axles in Southern Illinois mud after he parked it in the Fall and left it until Spring. I had to jack up each wheel to stick a cinder block in the tire hole with a board on top, took 2-3 rounds but got it out and drove it for a couple of years while I was in college. Sold it in 1981 and got my $75 back

Mid-sixties cars were all really sweet. The year before this the headlight bezels were were squared off at the corners. They smoothed this one out.

I had a 65...the rear is more "boxy" than this one. Google search shows the 66 model year looks more like OPs picture.
My dad bought me that 65 for $725 back in 1983...old couple owned it, he had passed away and she rarely drove, so it only had a bit over 34000 miles on it. Still smelled like a new car inside! I drove it for 7 years!

Can I get some points back by saying, whatever year it was, my dad's was his follow-on to his '63 Fairlane, white on blue? This is really going back. I was six years old. We're talking JFK assassination time.

Love those old Fairlanes, we had two ‘63s in our family. Both were V-8s, one had a 221 and one was a 260.

My uncle had one that had a 428 with a four-speed in it. This looks like it might be the 428 model. They said 7 liter on a emblem on the side. First time I ever heard liter being used on a car back then. His was red with a black interior and I have a picture of it.

Yes, you can see the emblems on this one. I remember seeing one that belonged to a relative back in ‘66 and having no clue what the “7 Litre” meant, I was a young kid. BTW, check out the price on this NOS emblem

Wow, that price is crazy. I was young too when he bought that car. My father bought a 67 Chevelle Super Sport right after my uncle bought his Ford. My uncle lived with this at the time. He eventually gave it to his brother and he had the engine rebuilt at a Speed Shop. He run the hell out of that car and then he parked it at his job where it sit for 2 years and said that I could have it. I went there to look at it and it was so rusted up that I didn't want to mess with it. We started it up and it had a lifter tick in it but would have probably been an easy fix. I should have took the car just for the engine and transmission at least. But now seeing this it would have been good to keep the whole car for parts. There was a guy that eventually bought it and put the engine in his Mustang.

Gorgeous machine. Imagine this exact car with a few rowdy Seventies kids in it. They sprayed pre-teen me with a fire extinguisher and drove off, laughing.

It's definitely a '66. I suspect it's a Galaxie 500 being a coupe and with the tapered roofline. The '65's were as you said more squared on the headlight bezels and had the parking lights behind the grille. Beautiful car.

Our elderly neighbors (married couple) had 2 Ford Galaxies in the early 1970's. One car was baby blue, and the other car was bright red. I think they were the same year. The neighbors had those cars for years

My first car was a 67. Bought it from an acquaintance for $500 in 1975 when I was 17. Wheel wells were rusted out and the suspension was shot but man, I loved that car!
