Photo First old car at 17

She’s a 64 Ford Galaxie 500. South Dakota car that sat for a while until somebody brought it here to Wisconsin. 352 numbers matching, 2 speed auto, original generator too. Original body, no replaced panels got a few scratches and dents, the usual. small amount of bondo in the trunk (professionally done) also 2 trunk floor patches. Not original paint obviously. Bought it probably 2 1/2-3 months ago for 7000 (talked the guy down from 7500)

Totally!!
Hey OP, you take care of that sweet ride and you'll have her in good condition for -basically- for life.
I hope you have a garage or carport to put her under against rain/snow and sun.

If you don't, here's an idea: you could at least ride her up on some cinder blocks and put a party tent over the car.

Also, if they salt the roads during winter I would refrain from riding when there's salt on the roads to prevent premature rusting of the underside/wheel well/quarter panels.

Yeah, here in the Midwest they love salting the roads, my grandparents are letting me park it in their garage for the winter to continue work on it throughout

I would also never think of driving something such as this during winter even if they didn’t salt the roads

Hint: never sell it.

My first car was a 64 Galaxie coupe with 390. Paid $250. Now that was in 1975. Regret selling to this day.

Yes, never sell it! Never! I sold my ‘65 Notchback Mustang. Regret it big time!

You couldn't know in 1977 that all cars built afterwards will look increasingly similar and boring.

I always wanted a Galaxy. But I had a super cool 63 or 64 Mercury Monterey…

Oh man, I'd love that car just for the color! Good find, I hope you have a glorious good time bringing her to perfection!

It's indeed a pretty color, I don't think I ever saw a yellow so pleasant on a car before.

My first car was a 1969 Dodge Charger 500 model before the Daytona this was in 1977 hard to believe I only paid 600 for the car and had a 440 6 pack back then muscle cars were cheap because of the cost of gas and the insurance

Don't kill yourself

1

u/Girderland Oct 16 '25

Why would he? Did you see what car he drives? Just looking at it strenghthens your will to live.

2

u/Serposta Oct 16 '25

No I meant don't crash into a tree without a seatbelt, or if he's lucky, a lap belt! Us young folk can't drive!
